  • Granger Smith Podcast Episode 92: I had an interesting question given to me: Is the trauma people may experience in life that leads to suicide perhaps more trauma to the soul than it is to the brain? My buddy Chad and I talk about this question and more in this week's podcast.

    Popping in on veteran suicide. As the "Bonus Mom" to a US Army Captain, who committed suicide 2 weeks ago yesterday. Lucas was special forces in Kuwait twice. His words, we found after, were that the guilt of things they'd done. The images that filled his mind were overwhelming. Constant nightmares and PTSD. He was not supported in the way he needed from the VA. His soul could not deal with his pain. We miss you Lucas. Your 3 beautiful girls ,your wife ,family and friends mourn your loss, your life.
    To our veterans... you are important. You are valued. You are so loved and appreciate you. You are not alone Give it all to the Lord !
    Rest in peace Captain Lucas Osborn

    Your podcast touched my heart in many ways today. I am a nurse at a Veterans hospital. Your story of the veteran who took his life has me crying. I cry for him. That he had to be put in that situation. I know God has embraced him and healed his emotional wounds. I will never look at a veteran the same. You are so right they have deep wounds that cannot be seen. We think of the Veterans shooting the enemy to save comrades. But never think that a soldier had to take a child's life to save another soldier. My heart aches thinking of his pain. Thank you for opening my eyes wider to the traumas our guys endure to keep us safe and free. Thank you to all our veterans and soldiers from the bottom of my heart. Their wives, children, parents and friends who have all lost a part of their loved one to war as they never come back truly whole. Thank you God for having me listen to this podcast. I pray this makes me a better nurse. Ya'll Stay Safe and God Bless.

    I am an US ARMY combat veteran I have been deployed twice I love your podcast and your music granger, I think this was meant for me, because last night I was contemplating suicide and have tried in the past…. I think it is traumatic to both… it’s more traumatic for the brain in a mental note…. Because of the nightmares and the thoughts I have had….But there is damage to your soul due to being numb not really caring due to the stuff we have done over seas….. thank you for providing light….

      James I am so glad that the dark voices didn't win last night. I am glad that you were able to see light through Granger's broadcast today. I pray that more of the light of God's love comes your way to drive out the darkness, or at least brighten it up some. I hope you will find a support group with whom you can share your struggles so that you'll be continually reminded that you're not traveling your difficult journey alone. Wishing all the best for you, sir.

      @@Hermanos22 No! Your comment is NOT okay. Trying to shame someone for having the courage to express their frustrations and struggles is not okay ever, and especially on a podcast like Granger's. I'm guessing you're someone who views the idea of suicide as weakness or selfishness. I used to view it that way myself. It is how I was raised to understand it. Once you have someone in your life that you care about who has succumbed to suicide, you begin to see it in a different way. Those who contemplate suicide are in such a dark place in their mind and soul that those of us who are able to see light and think rationally can't fully grasp or understand. They truly begin to believe that there is no way that they'll ever see light again. All they can see is the darkness. When we encounter someone who is having those considerations, our job is to do our best to help them see that there still is light, there still is hope, and all we can then do is hope that they'll be able to see it. Please delete your hateful comment. It has no place here.

I sadly know that there are many veterans that are committing suicide. I lost my "bonus son" ,who was a Captain in the US Army to suicide 2 weeks ago. He also served in 2 special forces stints. His struggles won. It has left behind a ripple effect of reaching out to our veterans in my life. My heart , love and prayers go out to you. You are not alone . You are loved. You are appreciated. Thank you for recognizing the trauma of a soldier that doesn’t show physical injuries of the brain. My husband lives with PTSD and everyone thinks I’m crazy because they don’t see his episodes that I have to help him get through. He doesn’t like to show this. He thinks it shows his weakness. As his wife, it frustrates me. He needs help and therapy. Please pray for them.

    Not gonna lie been listening to this podcast for a while and this may be one of the best episodes yet. I'm going to probably listen to it again. First I loved the portion about sin and lust. Definitely made me think a lot about my own life. It was very interesting to hear the big topic however on Suicide. As someone who struggled himself and lost 2 friends it made me think a lot. I was suicidal as a result of being bullied throughout childhood. I obviously never followed through with it, I just thought about it. It makes me wonder if maybe that was a part of why I never did, because my soul wasn't damaged, just my brain. If definitely made me think about things and I appreciate it. Love you guys and all that you do. If you are ever in the Philly area, I plan the Philly motorcycle ride to fight suicide and we'd love to have you. Yee Yee.

  • @bowed305
    @bowed305 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great discussion about the incredibly difficult topic of suicide, and I think it's an especially difficult topic for Christians to discuss because of some of the ways we've been mislead about it in the past. Thinking of the contemplation of suicide as brokenness of the soul makes so much sense to me, probably more sense than anything else I've ever heard on the topic. I love Chad's answer that only repair and restoration for soul damage can come through Jesus Christ. I love you bringing up the call of Jesus for us to come to Him when we are weary and burdened, and those with suicidal ideations are most certainly burdened in a way most of us can't understand, but Jesus promises rest if we'll come. "You will have rest for your souls." What an incredible offer and promise. Cannot thank you enough for that discussion and what you both brought to it. Chad has such a calm and peaceful presence that I appreciate, and I love it when he laughs. It just makes me feel better about things. You guys are a great duo. Can't wait for Chad's podcast. #YeeYee
