460plus in whole crop silage (Ganzpflanzen Silage)

The new 460plus Kemper header does an excellent job in whole crop silage. In this video, the 6 meter rotatory crop header harvests down rye, rye with a lot of undergrowth and last but not less successful a mix of rye and common vetch. The crop is directly cut for a Biogas plant in Germany. A specialized header with discs could not harvest these difficult crops due to plugging of the rotor in the header.
Der neue Kemper 460 plus-Vorsatz verrichtet eine exzellente Arbeit in der Ganzpflanzen Silage (GPS). In diesem Video erntet der 6 Meter breite Erntevorsatz am Boden liegenden Roggen, Roggen mit Grass Unterwuchs und zu guter letzt eine Mischung aus Roggen und Wicke. Das Erntegut wird für eine Biogas-Anlage in Deutschland gehäckselt. Mit einem für GPS spezialisierten Vorsatz mit Scheiben ist es nicht möglich dieses schwierige Gut zu ernten, da sich dieses um den Rotor und die Förderschnecke wickelt und somit den Vorsatz verstopft.

Hello Lukas indeed the SPFH has more than enough horsepower. The problem was that the contractor could not harvest the fields with his regualar disc mower header. The dealer had only a Kemper 460plus demo machine for him available which did a good job as you can see in the video.

Hello Jim, these headers run in combination with an self proppelled forage harvester, the 'end product' is used to feed cattle or in this case a biogas plant. In some cases combine headers are used for this purpose as well. The machine can not be used in cobination with a combine.

Hi there, have any modifications been made to this header? I ask because we want to trial our 460 in whole crop silage this year and are wondering what modifications we have to make to make it work.

No, you'd lose too much grain to "shatter" from the rough handling of the material. Small grain platforms are designed to smoothly move the grain to the threshing area. They also have a solid bottom to catch any grain that does come loose.

Hello Athanasios, yes you would be able to work with your Kemper M3000 the same way. Your machine will be at least 25 years old (as far as we know the 600 series were build up to 1992), so you need to make sure that it is in good shape. Meaning that the knives, cleaner, scrapers etc. must be in best condition. As soon as there is a lot of distance due to wear between the scrapers, cleaners and the drums the material will block the header. As the SPFH 695sl is sold as a new machine up to the beginning of the nineties the demand for new headers went down a lot. The last time we offered new headers for this type was in 2012, this was the 445 (6 row big drum). There are lot of used machines on the market please contact us if you require help to find a (local) Kemper dealer [e-mail].

Please send us a mail on: [e-mail] and we can explain in detail what we have changed on the header over the years. Depending the age of your header we might have a modification kit for your header. You can find information onour website look in service and parts than in retrofit kits in the PDF file on page 30 you will find a kit for the 460. This kit might help you if your machine is build before 2010.
