  • DNA from a 9/11 victim helped New York police identity a woman killed in 1969 that had become a cold case. The remains of the woman, known as "Midtown Jane Doe," were found buried in a basement in 2003. WNBC's Marc Santia reports.

Could have been anyone from an owner to a cleaner, maintenance person to a contractor, bar staff to an electrician.
Without being able to narrow down a time frame for when this happened it could have been literally anyone, and it could have been more than one. They could have had renovations going on and the perpetrator worked there for a week. It could have been a security guard with keys on a Sunday. It could have been a hippy living in the basement with permission from the long-dead owner.
As usually happens in cases like this among the "true crime community" people invent their own narratives and spiral out into all kinds of assumptions based on their own biases. Facts matter, but even the cop being interviewed has invented a completely bizarre narrative of her having a child apparently based on nothing but the presence of a toy soldier, when that could have come from literally anywhere and could have been put there for any number of reasons.

Wouldn't be surprised if they had a hand in it. A few blocks away on 43rd street and 10th ave was one of their main bars where they used "dispose" of bodies after closing. They were ruthless. Sad.

Steve Paul's the Scene was an Epic Rock and Roll hang out. Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and so many others all hung out there after shows and jammed. Unfortunately, the spot was targeted by a Tony Sirico, yes that Tony Sirico. Tony was notorious for mooching admission, free drinks, cracking skulls and then shaking down Steve Paul and tormenting the talent, especially Jimi Hendrix whom he tortured during his worst years of heroin addiction. Wonder what he and the mobsters he brought in knew about this murder?

More information not provided in the news video. In an article from the Daily Mail (not the ideal source for news)…
“Patricia was described by Glas as 'a runaway and a truant' in the period leading up to her death.
She apparently married and lost touch with her family around the same time, though police have not found records of missing persons reports filed after her disappearance.
An active homicide investigation has been launched to learn more about the circumstances surrounding Patricia's death, with the exact date and age she died still unknown, but suspected to be in late 1969 or in 1970.
According to NBC, detectives believe that Patricia may have had a child who the toy soldier buried with her belonged to.
Police have not named any suspects but Glas said that her former husband was connected to the building where her remains were found and his team is asking anyone who knew Patricia, her family or the area around Steve Paul's The Scene at the time of her murder to contact the NYPD.”

They aired it a few times but I don’t remember any substantial leads or updates back then. And it was also one of the first cases involving an unidentified victim that I had been made aware of. The other two being “Boy in the Box” and “Lake Pontchartrain Jane Doe”, both cases also featured on the show. Below is a link to the Midtown Jane Doe segment of AMW from 2006 in case anyone is interested.
