741 op amp wired as a virtual ground rail splitter. Instead of the voltage just being a positive side and negative side (called ground in such cases) for single supply, the ground becomes a half way point between the positive supply and negative supply voltage in split supplies.

I just love how easy it is to make a split power supply !

@@Electronzap Here is something to consider. my opamp was oscilating probably because it could react really quickly to it's self and picking up noise that it would amplify and start oscilating. in my circuit i placed capacitors from 0V to V- and V+ this would in effect slow the output down and stop the oscilations.

@@duality4y Glad you figured out how to take care of the oscillations!

Thanks a lot! Funny thing I bought a 2nd lab supply before seeing this!

You can source/sink several amps with that setup. With this, you're limited to what the op-amp can handle. Which usually isn't a lot.

@@padmanabhaprasannasimha5385 Yeah. in my case it was just to phase shift a sine wave for a detection circuit so no power needed.

Audio synthesis typically use 12V +/- (so 24V end to end). Any major change in the circuit to accommodate such higher voltage ?

      Isn't the 741 limited to 22v on the supply rail? (+/- 11V)

I have been searching but i haven't found anything can you please help me Build an opamp based current to voltage converter that will give an output of 0v at 4 mA and 5v at 20mA

Haven't made an op amp current to voltage circuit yet, but that sounds fun, so I'll keep that in mind! :)

But aren't there very limited maximum currents is such a setup? If I want to build a power amplifier that will draw several amps between output and ground through the speaker it will not work, will it?

Gunther Schadow: You are correct that there is a "limited maximum current". The combined current that can flow into or out of this virtual ground circuit is limited by the amount of current that the chosen op amp can source or sink. The 741 used in this exercise could probably source/sink around 25mA (theoretical; not tested).
