Got to say, laying out the plot like this, with full inclusion of both series and the movie expanded lore... really makes this whole timeline and cosmology so complex and compelling.
A subtle detail most fans miss the 1st time they watch this Season is how whenever a Dark Master gets defeated & their section of Spiral Mountain disappears the Digital World's sky gets darker. When Metalseadramon was defeated & the ocean disappeared the sky went from bright blue to light blue. When Puppetmon was defeated & the forest disappeared the sky went from light blue to grayish blue. When Machinedramon was defeated & the city & desert disappeared the sky went from grayish blue to dark gray. & when Piedmon was defeated & the ruins disappeared the sky went from dark gray to black.
In Canada Mugendramon was called Machinedramon . He was my favorite of the dark masters. Such a cool design to me. ❤ All I can hear when I see Pinocchimon is: PUT IT ON A SHIRT!
I remember watching holyangemon's first appearance. And the way he took down piemon, it was so epic, and ever since than i always loved the patamon line
During my childhood I was infinitely sad I couldn't watch the whole Dark Masters arch. I can blame my shitting satellite TV and my mother's hatred of the series because there were devils. But hey, I got to see the whole thing as an adult, so there's a silver lining. But that's not the point. The point is the Dark Masters were both terrifying and horrifying. Watching the chosen children go up against them was scary because each battle had a price. Pinocchiomon was by far the most terrifying because of his childish attitude which led him to hurt and even "kill" those around him, but also his ability to manipulate. Yamato's decent into destructive and self destructive tendencies was heartbreaking to watch. But in the end it was worth to watch his character grow. Piedmon was a good choice for the most powerful bad guy. With his clown appearance it made you underestimate him, and watching him handle the chosen children so easily was horrifying of itself. Heck, I forgot it was even possible for Angemon to digivolve to the next level because we hadn't seen him do it since the beginning. In the end, Metalseadramon is my favorite for his design. I love the entire Seadramon line especially. I guess to wrap up my long winded comment, when I finally watched the Dark Masters arch as an adult, I loved how the series truly challenged the children and their worldly perception with antagonists who consistently stripped them of their confidence and their friends. Growing up is often painful, and mistakes are made, and it was refreshing to see them fail, quit, and find their way again. I truly think this series was underrated in the late 90's early 2000's.
Hey, it could be worse! When their debut episode, "Enter the Dark Masters", first aired here in the UK, they started the whole series back at the beginning again for no discernable reason! And what's more, they even skipped Piedmon's little role call at the start of the episode, meaning we met them as the kids did! Now, imagine how bad it would have been if they never actually finished airing the whole series and instead moved straight onto 02, both of which I actually saw from their original airings, by the way!
Apoclymon and the Adventure universe as a whole gets even more complicated if you account Millenniummon, considering that he was the one who allowed Apoclymon to bypass the firewall and into Adventure's universe, and especially considering the fact that the Mugendramon that fused with the Chimeramon was in fact, the Dark Master Mugendramon who had barely survived his battle with WarGreymon

He inspires Ken to make Chimeramon, which later becomes his biological half, while also infecting the core of the Dark Master Mugendramon, his mechanical half, all through his ability to mess with space and time! That's how he came to be defeated by Ken from the Adventure Timeline and Ryu from the Tamers Timeline! He has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in 02, after they defeat Chimeramon and Ken's Digimon Kaiser, when he's in his funk, there's a flashback and that's when he got infected by the Dark Spore from Milleniumon, wherein he, through his aforementioned inspiration, once he became Kaiser, made Chimeramon! Self-perpetuating paradox!
One thing about the ending that doesn't get mentioned much is that, before evolving without the crests for the last time to defeat Apocalymon the children remember the adventure and how their digimon were always there when they were in danger. That strongly implies that the crests were completely unnecessary, as it was their adventure that made them stronger so that their digimon could evolve, so the power of evolution was inside them all along and the crests were just something to make them work for it. That's a very deep message!
I remember not really caring about metalseadramon as a kid but now he has risen to one of my favorites. Especially the X form puppetmon & machinedragon Will always have a special place in my heart though. The dark masters in general we’re just really great antagonists with even better designs

I don't know why but considering that in the real life version of revelations lucifer is terrified of the apocalypse as he wants to basically destroy everything related to it because he knows that it is his ultimate defeat i see lucimon being terrified of apolclymon because of that exact reason
Mugendramon has been and always will be my favorite digimon. The design is perfect with the cold calculation evolution of robotics. His death was kind of meh, but he has popped back in such interesting ways like the 2020 series where Agumon partially evolves into him through rage and sadness.
Sub apocolymon: i am a wrathful manifestation of the dark emotions left behind by extinct digimon species that failed to evolve enough to survive the extreme conditions of a world like ours. Dub apocolymon: guys you just dont get it. They ate my pizza and made me sound like Jack Nicholson. You'd destroy the universe too in my shoes.

They took an incredibly dark and intimidating final boss with a really well thought out origin story and made him seem almost as silly as etemon. I love both versions but thats one of the few cases where i wish they toned down the dad jokes and the dubs humor is the one thing keeping me loving both and preventing me ffim being a sub purist

Wargreymon is the best one to defeat Machinedramon and Mtlseadramon since he has the Dramon Killers for his weapons, which is effective against dragon types. Which also makes sense for Magnaangemon to defeat Piedmon, an evil digimon.
I kind of pity puppetmon because he does genuinely want friendship, but he’s his own worst enemy in that regard because of how violent he is towards others
I always thought it was weird that Metalsedramon had a massive seaside army and chose to take the kids head on. I also always thought Pupptmon's death was anticlimactic.
I was looking forward for the dark master in the reboot, and low and behold they didn't appear, Imagine all the possibilities, They could've fully redeemed Pinocchimon, Reveal agumon was a dark master all along, and the other digidistined fight him as mugendramon, That would be cool
I was one of the few people that advocates toei to reboot adventures so that it would attract former and new fans into the series. But considering how they outright made adventures 2020 its own thing and introduced abadamon, I wish they never touch any of the adventures saga again
If they would just stayed with the Original Story and Character Development. The only good Thing about it was the Fight Scenes and that the other Kids got their Mega Levels. And New Evolutions like Blitzgreymon.

21:04 I'd believed that the four holy beast mega digimon were among the strongest digimon of the digital world since they were tasked to protecting it. Since each of the dark masters were arguably just typical mega level digimon which were defeated by the 7 chosen children, it seems contradictory to the plot that the four holy beast digimon could be simply defeated and sealed away by four typical mega digimon. In the 02 adventure series, we were shown just how powerful one of the holy beast digimon (azulongmon) were by show of feat of easily restraining blackwargreymon and enabling the mega evolution of imperialdramon. Based on what were we shown, the dark masters shouldn't have given the 4 holy beast digimon much difficult to defeat..
One of his attacks is called "Uso" ? That just means "Lie" in japanese. Or "Not true". I am surprised they are actually called Daku Masutas and not Shitennou, as that is a term anime uses way too often for four evil generals. Even Kaiba had his Shitennou.
4:35 "manipulated by Apocalymon" Wait, so were the Dark Masters on a mission from Apocalymon, or did they think they were completely on their own and unaware of Apocalymon? When did Datamon create this program for Spiral Mountain? I guess it can't have been after his death, but I find it weird the idea that he was actually not only working with them but many years before their plan went into action when that isn't at all mentioned or alluded to in the show. And where does Etemon fit into this whole thing? He seems weirdly disconnected from all the other main antagonists.

Looking at the Maki & Daigo generation of Chosen ones, I can't help but notice that Huanglongmon is nowhere to be seen. I wonder if ol goldilocks would've been the key to defeating the Dark Masters. Heck, with Maki's big plan in Tri, we could've gotten Huanglongmon Ruin Mode as a big bad boss over Meicrackmon.
I always liked the Dark Masters, as villains but the final foe just came out of nowhere and wasn't really that good of a foe to the heroes, its a pity that the reboot didn't even bother to use them, that show was a right mess and just all over the place and could of benefited from the original villains to handle the pacing issues!!
The lore doesn’t make sense, they are powerful enough to fight off and eventually defeat the 4 holy beast and seal them away, but get defeated so easily in the anime, like the backstory doesn’t make sense at all

It's actually the helmet of andromon that becomes the kneecaps for machinedramon. The original TCG has option cards showing as such.

Honestly if you could make new dark masters who would they be. I kinda want to see Avenge Kidmon in charge of a wild west town.
Personally I hope not. We already have vpet cannon that avengekidmon acts more like an anti hero/vigilante because of him being in the 3 musketeers groups alongside beelstarmon and gundramon. Would be nice if we get story about them being the batman of their series.
I always thought each of the Dark masters deserved 2 more episodes for them, except for Pinochimon, who had the apropriate spotlight.

For me it’s a cross between Metalseadramon and Puppetmon. I alive Metaseadramons energy and attitude, but Puppetmon is tiny small and Powerful!

21:04 I'd believed that the four holy beast mega digimon were among the strongest digimon of the digital world since they were tasked to protecting it.
Since each of the dark masters were arguably just typical mega level digimon which were defeated by the 7 chosen children, it seems contradictory to the plot that the four holy beast digimon could be simply defeated and sealed away by four typical mega digimon.
In the 02 adventure series, we were shown just how powerful one of the holy beast digimon (azulongmon) were by show of feat of easily restraining blackwargreymon and enabling the mega evolution of imperialdramon. Based on what were we shown, the dark masters shouldn't have given the 4 holy beast digimon much difficult to defeat..
They could of had found a way to seal them away without fighting
One of his attacks is called "Uso" ? That just means "Lie" in japanese. Or "Not true". I am surprised they are actually called Daku Masutas and not Shitennou, as that is a term anime uses way too often for four evil generals. Even Kaiba had his Shitennou.

Wait, so were the Dark Masters on a mission from Apocalymon, or did they think they were completely on their own and unaware of Apocalymon?
When did Datamon create this program for Spiral Mountain? I guess it can't have been after his death, but I find it weird the idea that he was actually not only working with them but many years before their plan went into action when that isn't at all mentioned or alluded to in the show.
And where does Etemon fit into this whole thing? He seems weirdly disconnected from all the other main antagonists.

Looking at the Maki & Daigo generation of Chosen ones, I can't help but notice that Huanglongmon is nowhere to be seen. I wonder if ol goldilocks would've been the key to defeating the Dark Masters.
Heck, with Maki's big plan in Tri, we could've gotten Huanglongmon Ruin Mode as a big bad boss over Meicrackmon.

I always liked the Dark Masters, as villains but the final foe just came out of nowhere and wasn't really that good of a foe to the heroes, its a pity that the reboot didn't even bother to use them, that show was a right mess and just all over the place and could of benefited from the original villains to handle the pacing issues!!

The lore doesn’t make sense, they are powerful enough to fight off and eventually defeat the 4 holy beast and seal them away, but get defeated so easily in the anime, like the backstory doesn’t make sense at all
The other kids should have gotten their megas in that arc.
The dark masters lost to the chosen children digimon because they chose to attack one at a time
Generally I think Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon don’t get the credit they deserve for defeating them
Wargreymon defeated Metalseadramon and Machinedramon because his gauntlet are effective against dramon type
Puppetmon was easily killed by metalgarurumon because puppetmon was already tired from fighting 2 megas, metal etemon and Wargreymon
And Piedmon was defeated by Holyangemon heaven gates attack which Wargreymon and metalgarurumon threw him inside the gate and sealed him for eternity

Actually he didn’t get any power boost, Kari’s light simply allowed Aguemon to warp evolve into Wargreymon who was enough to defeat Machinedramon
@@minicle426did you know that machinedramons the strongest In the dark master one theory I heard about machinedramons if he won that he would defeat piemon and rule the digital and real world with an iron fist and remember how myotismon came back well same thing with machinedramons but your going to have to look at the digimon adventure games for that and thanks to a time distorchine caused by kimeramons defeat machinedramons absorbed kimeramons and became milleniummon who infected ken with the dark spore who created kimeramons which caused a permanent time paradox and he survived again becoming lunar milleniummon who survived again and became zedemilleniumon and survived again by fusing with ryos partner digimon like sedemilleniumon without the band around it could destroy all of existence just by existing even with them one zedemilleniumon is the second strongest digimon only beaten by shoutmon times seven superior mode
