Tips with your new mic 1) check the gain so you avoid clipping. Aim for -12 db on VU meters 2) clip the mic slightly lower for better capturing and frequency response. 3) equalize your vocals ( such as removing 6-7k with a wide PEQ to reduce sibilance 4) price =/= best quality in audio. Check out Cheap Audio man for honest reviews and the most bang for ur buck if that’s an issue. 5) The audio quality has definitely improved.
I generally agree but idk if EQ is that important. I would personally just reduce threshold sensitivity. Other than being able to hear Gabriel breathing in, it sounds pretty much fine.
The new mic starts clipping sometimes and it also has a slight crackle. Although the overall volume has increased because the mic is now closer to your body, the overall quality of audio has degraded. However, I do recommend that you think twice about returning the mic because it will be very useful when you are filming videos outdoors or when you are traveling.

Gabriel can you do a detailed video on handfighting? We never have been taught this in our gym. But hand trapping, guard stripping or distance measuring by touching the opponents (lead) hand is definitely an important aspect in boxing, kickboxing & MMA.
@@whoknows8223 there are many western boxing based videos that go in detail on hand fighting, and that can be applied to mma, kickbxoing and muay thai systems. The channels that talk about that are eboxing academy and boxing gems.
This is possibly the best video I've ever seen from you. The timing couldn't be better, as I also am experiencing the same issue as the person who requested this topic. Many thanks GV.
The lav mic is getting a bit distorted but has less room noise. That $400 mic is nice, but not as great at a distance - the closer you can get it to you the better it will sound, it would be great for voiceovers and post production work! Hope that helps! Thanks again for another great vid!!
@@Creator_Veeto_PAEACP i was talking about getting the expensive mic closer not the lav mic, the lav is probably getting distorted because of how close it is already and because it can easily get muffled while demonstrating techniques
My tactic as a short man for my country is to occupy one of the opponents two hands whenever possible. I also like to touch the opponents long guard with my own long guard. I get to land alot of round kicks just for "holding hands" with my opponent.
I am 1,83 m, have long arms and use long guard as one of my tactics when the opponent rush in. On smaller opponents I often hold my lead hand on their forehead while pivoting/circling out to the left. It sounds quite stupid but works way better than one might think.
No expert on sound but yes your voice comes through as smoother, less echo maybe. On the other hand, you built the channel and made it to 100K subscribers with the old mic so... up to you bro.
I already noticed the clip mic and difference in audio in one of your recent videos. Yes, it is definately better now. When I started following your channel, the audio was the only kind of 'weak spot' I noticed. But then again: I did not care at all, because your content is so relevant and high level - you could literally record your videos with a trash can and I would still enjoy them 🤣👍
For the inside I'd rather use the usual previous one to avoid these loud mic sounds 2:14. It might be interesting to use the small one when you're outdoors. Great content..
Great timing, as I've just sparred today with a friend and got countered flush with a big right hook to the jaw. Dazzled me a bit and so I went on thinking what I did wrong and "setting a plan" for my next attack, so that I wouldn't be countered again. Well, I got hit with exactly the same shot a round after. I think it's exactly what you're explaining here : I should have watched and felt my partner on the attack instead of blindly unrolling my previously thought plan. Sounds very simple indeed but hard to do.
Stop having a plan and just be confident that you can land whatever the other person gives you. Be active in your movement and trust your athleticism and skills if you've practiced them. Use the sparring to focus on making those on the fly decisions as fast as you can so it becomes instinctual instead of focusing on the technique.
Great video! The new mic could use some tweaking… maybe add a small inline mixer to monitor your levels prior to and during recording? A little compression in post can help with a lower input signal too. I suspect there’s good performance there and it will require a little fiddling to get the result you’re after but it’s definitely worth the effort!
The same way you're always looking for patterns in your opponent's movements there should be a check continuously running in the background of your mind to see if you have repeated twice or more the same sequence. Then you can either switch of use part of it as bait before switching to something else.
thank you so much gabriel , you are an amazing martial artist , im happy and gratefull to learn , apply and adjust to myself , the high quality knlowdege you give here . the adjustments part , through constantly noticing , identifying and interpreting the current moment , fuonctioning and understanding the relevant possibilities, knowing ahead I may be inaccurate enough sometimes , so much intelligenece , truth and power. thank you 😁🙏😁
The old mike was definitely better Gabe. The new one sounds pretty flat and cuts out the ambient sounds. They are important! They are what make things sound live. New one sounds like you talk into a tin bucket. Big fan of you and your videos
If you want to be in that flow state where you just throw at whatever's open, you need to to trust that you can hit where you intend to hit with whatever strike will work best in that moment. To me, the basis of that is good technique and athleticism.
Great tips, Gabriel, it's so easy to listen to them, but sooo hard to remember them in sparring, unless a man practices a lot and imprints them into himself :) As for the mic - when You had Your hands up it was much too loud and distorted, the previous one did a better job in that regard, however the voice was a bit crispier here, so a bit of improvement :)
I for one am much less distracted by the sound than before, and am much more likely to finish watching your videos. Great vid again, thanks. Going to try more head movement and alternative points of entry during sparring this evening! Or should I practice the basic footwork from the other video, hmm.. haha
not a sound expert, but i think i like the previous mic. it sounded more "full" to me, and while this one does seem like it may be a little more clear, i think the tone (or whatever you'd call it) of the other one just sounded softer on the ears
Gabe the 400$ mic is great for commentary bc as someone said below the closer the better. I think that ur more dynamic workout vids will benefit from this new mic but whenever u do voice overs the other mic is better
There is some good advice in the comments about the mic setup. Quality is good, but it varies throughout the video. I also have a question, it's about giving class/training: How do you (if you need to anyway) cope with giving class to a varying expertise level? There is no band system like in Judo so that I can decide what level of excercise I can give to the class. And since I've got new students every other week the expertise of the students keeps varying. My current solution is to give different levels of the same excersise e.g.: if you are a beginner just do the jab standing still, bit experienced step with it, more experienced is more (head)movement. Do you got any tips on this? If it's splitting the class I get the same problem as before, I don't know how to rate them since some people can beat other on sheer conditioning but not having technique. Thanks in advance, and loving the video's! Greetings from the Netherlands, Osu!
Hard for me to judge the audio from just one video. It does sound like your voice is more full-bodied in this one, but there's also more distortion when your hands/arms are up close to your mouth. I'd say it's a slight improvement overall, but if you can do something to address that distortion, I think it'd get even better 🙂 Very good video. I try to keep some element of reaction in mind when practicing specifically for avoiding that "deciding what to do before seeing if it makes sense" situation. It's gotten me tapped a few times in partnered defense drills, but it's helped me pull up short of blasting someone who messed up a few times, too, so hopefully it also helps make me safer to train with 🙂
Hi Gabriel! I like the new mic, but I think you had the levels turned up too high and sometimes the signal gets distorted. On your next bud, try keeping the recording levels a little lower and I I think you’ll have better results. Thanks! Also, love the topic.
Mic didn't sound as good as the old one. *Question* for maybe a future video. So many clubs I've been to teach technique as if 'emotions' do not existing (fight, flight, freeze, etc.), but I only every had one instructor actually properly acknowledged and attempted to give advice on how to fight 'utilising' your emotions (anger, fear, or feeling overwhelmed, etc.) instead of fighting against them, or pretending that they don't existing. Do you have any advice on dealing with, or harnessing, the emotions that hit you during or going into a fight?
i love to fight but i am a bit scared of cte i have a mother whom i love very much. earlier i wanted to became a professional but now seeing fighters getting cte and i got to know about mini mike tyson who got blinded by boxing .should i fight or not please guide me sir my future depends on it
It's your personal preference. If you prefer to stay healthy than doing martial arts professional don't fight. If your wish to fight professional is bigger than the fear of having cte then do it.
The video content is great but your old mic is better because when you chin down & talk, the output was distorted when your throat voice overwhelmed the new mic closer to your throat
The mic sounds better, gain is probably a bit high, and you will have to work on its positioning to prevent the distortion from happening when you shell up, demonstrating technique with your hands for example.
I don't care really about the mic you are using or what clothes or haircut you are wearing etc. to be honest but much more about the content. Something I would have add is to initiate something sloppy on purpose like a throwaway jab, anticipate the counter and counter the counter. Like baiting the opponent in to counter. For example he parries your throwaway jab and throws his own jab so that you can counter it.

I generally agree but idk if EQ is that important. I would personally just reduce threshold sensitivity. Other than being able to hear Gabriel breathing in, it sounds pretty much fine.
@@BarryStyles it will help with the sibilance on shotgun mics like that. But it really is the icing and not that important. Ye

It’s not the mic, it’s the mics position along with the gain; pre-fader. Uneducated suggestions aren’t really that helpful.
