    Going on 3 years of being a minimalist, I have a lot of money saved and invested. It's about being intentional with stuff you really want. The misconception is you can only a number of items. This is not a religion, just a tool to live better.

      Well put! I must remember how you phrased that. I come across this concept often. It's like minimalism is an all or nothing concept for some people.

    Minimalism is not hurting yourself for the sake of less.
    It's easy to throw everything away and suffer. It's easy to keep everything. The art and science of minimalism is reducing possessions while being as/more happy with your stuff.
    It's not replacing your monitor with your laptop. It's sitting down doing some thinking and asking yourself what do I really want? Comfortable head position and a large real estate and taking that information and finding a product that accomplishes that with less.

  • @ForrestHikingForest
    @ForrestHikingForest 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

    When you are speaking of keeping your monitors, and you say a true minimalist would just use their laptop, you are missing the point. Minimalism is not an aesthetic. A true minimalist would keep the monitors if they add real value to their life, not get rid of them for the sake of reducing. However, if a minimalist decides the monitors are no longer adding value and the person would be comfortable with just using the built in computer display then they would get rid of the extra monitors, but not for perceived aesthetic.

    Without any plans or intentions for minimalism, I actually started eliminating some of my clothes last week simply because the sight and thought of them is starting to stress me out. I had too much clothes verging on hoarding because most of it are only there "possibly for future use". Now that I've taken off about 30% of my clothes, a heavy weight has been lifted not just from my closet but also from my mind. And I'm planning to do a second round of elimination to remove up to 50%.

    Totally agree that minimalism is not a competition to see who has fewer items. Also, I constantly repeat to myself the Japanese word "Dan-Sha-Ri" (“refuse”, “dispose” and “separate”).
    Everything starts with the conscious decision of refusing waste to enter into your life.

    This video is so great! It shows the excitement of narrowing your things down, the struggle after you do all does things, the boring part, the part where you wanted to buy stuff to fill those ones you threw away, and realizing you really don’t needed to buy new things again, that that is the lesson you needed to learn from being a minimalist. ❤

    My friends and I had a contest to live simply, clear up the clutter, and minimize our space and life. I noticed my 5 senses heightened and increased. I was more attentive to others around me and one on one. I could actually see, hear, listen, smell, feel, and taste more because of fewer distractions and clutter in my environment which also helped to detox and clean up my mind and body's mental, emotional, and spiritual environment. Therefore, I was able to clearly focus and meditate longer and fill my mind with positive thoughts and creative ideas. I agree 100% that "less is more" and living a "simple life" and having more time for others and oneself is very healthy physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. A person can accomplish a lot in a day and become successful when life is simple and minimalized. I get more done in a day unlike before when clutter and distractions ruled. I also added up how many hours I would spend being distracted throughout the day and I would have "banked" if I was being paid for it. LOL 😄 P.S. I don't eat the same thing every day nor where the same clothes every day but my closet, dresser, and space are pretty minimalized and simple! 😉

    I started my minimalism journey about six years ago. It helped me to calm my mind. Something wich has to be said though: Minimalism looks differently for everyone. If a thing sparks joy for you - keep it. No matter if others tell you that you have way too many books or not. It has to work for you!

    Sounds like you’ve found what works for you. :) Clearing the excess so you can focus on what’s most important. What do you use for meditation?

  • @HereIAm247
    @HereIAm247 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think minimalism and productivity is great - to a point! :)
    Getting rid of excess can be liberating. And having a 'go to' set of meals/style uniform/etc. when you don't know what to do, can really make your life peaceful. But it is important to note that these things should feel like an addition to your life - not a punishment. I think a lot of people take these challenges to the extreme (I get that is more interesting content). But remember to explore new meals or style once in a while (when you feel like it), and then revert to the basics the rest of the time.
    I like the Marie Kondo way of thinking, because it is not about minimalism (that is actually more the side effect), it is more about learning what brings you joy, and creating a 'space full of joy'. That can be really uplifting. This means that if books means a lot to you, it is okay to have a lot of books. If you love clothes, it is fine to have more than you 'need'. It says something about what you value, and who you are as a person.
    But what happens, with her method, is you become conscious of what you truly like. And your shopping habits will change dramatically. You will look at quality over quantity. You may see getting a better knife as 'wasteful'. But if that knife means you will find more joy with cooking, is it really that frivolous? Maybe it is better, it will save you time, you love how it fits in your hand, the feeling it gives you while cooking.
    For the 'empty' feeling, try to add a few plants and decorations around (only the kind that brings you joy, of course!), while your brain gets used to the new 'level' of stuff. :)

    Minimalism is an obligatory option for the most of the minimalists, not a way of life you just choose to live.

    Hi David, Good experience for you, thank you for sharing. Concerning meditation. I have been trained in meditation, I call it running energy. Let me share with you. Put your attention in the center of your head and ground to the center of the planet. Use a grounding cord as an image connection and with that cord release energy (issues) from your space. Above your head create a sphere and let that sphere vibrate at I AM; drop it into your space and fill up. Repeat as necessary. That is a beginning. Growth to follow! Thanks for sharing. I too am experiencing minimalism and it is a good place to be for many reasons. .

    Life is meant to be full and it will be no matter what. You just have to decide what you want it to be full of. Distractions or accomllishments, stuff or experiences, quantity or quality, etc.
    We live in a capialist society. You're encouraged to look wealthy, not actually be wealthy. Less stuff means more time. Not more money necessarily, more time (which is priceless).

    When a middle class person realises he's been a minimalist all his life.

    The thing is, minimalism is for rich people, who have a 'backup' of some kind. They get to feel 'safe', In some way. All power to them, but it is not for everyone. These people do not understand in any way, what food insecurity, shelter insecurity is like. Etc, etc. A 'minimalistic' life, for these people, is no concept of what this life really is.

    Minimalism is fun. You shouldn't be eating the same meal each time, and you shouldn't remove apps you still enjoy? Minimalism is narrowing down what you don't want to focus on the things you do.

    Well im watching....just immediate thought no judgement- if trying for 30 days why toss everything especially what is useful and practical? Make no mistake, i enjoy watching and observing, yet if it is not for you the reinvesting back unto necessary gear is going to be expensive.

    Well, you got bored with the same old/same old, but think about the animals who live extreme minimalist lives from birth to death. They wake up at the crack of dawn, go out to forage for food (same stuff everyday), eat, tidy up the nest,take a nap so they’re ready to forage for more food later in the day, maybe feed young ones or teach them to hunt and do their thing. As the sun starts to sink to and below the horizon they’re tired from a day of work - just like humans. They probably eat whatever is left from the days forage as by early evening the forest gets quieter and more serene. Meanwhile those crazy humans are firing up the grill, marinating someone else’s kill, tossing a salad and baking a potato, drinking a glass of wine and as the sun sets all is well with the world. Moral of the story is to keep it as simple as the animals in the wild do. They know the secret of life is minimalism. And don’t overthink it. 😝
