Making an Oogie "Boogie" Dress! (vintage style)

  • HAPPY AUTUMN!! (officially, but we all know Autumn lives in our spoopy hearts) I wanted to kick off the season with a sorta "cousin" of my Sally Dress, so I figured an Oogie dress would fit the bill! This is honestly one of my most favorite projects that I've made in a while, and NOT JUST BECAUSE I'm addicted to weathering..... okay that's a big part of it.
    I love you guys and I hope you like it!

    A tip for strapless: When one constructs strapless pieces from scratch one takes out width in the top edge by slimming in the top inch of the seams, to make it go ever so slightly in on the top edge. Using a pattern as you are doing here it will most likely not use this in the construction as it can look a little strange to someone without this knowledge. The easiest way and what I imagine will be most useful for your kind of process is to just pinch in the top of each side seam, and if needed on the other seams too. Hope this is useful information to you (or anyone else reading)!

      You might consider some boning as well, to keep it a little rigid on your body, so you won’t get the droop.

    • @ThePixiixiq
      @ThePixiixiq 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's a good idea! For the quick and easy, cheapest and for not too much stiffness and wear you can get fabric covered rigiline boning. Personally I struggle calling it boning but for a quick project like this it's pretty darn handy to get a *bit* of support.

    Adding boning channels in the bodice (between the lining and burlap, some how, lol) that are closed at the bottom but open at the top would allow you to slide (removable) thin glow sticks in them. They should show up pretty well through the loose weave of the burlap and add a little structure. Love this dress for Halloween!

    Does anyone else actually read Frodos voice in what you imagine Frodo to sound like? (In my mind he has a distinguished British accent) Yeahhhh...I'm gonna stop drinking now.

    That a cappella version of the Oogie Boogie song is actually incredible. It's by Voiceplay, and it does not disappoint! (Plus the lead singer in this song is Geoff Castellucci, a god of a man.)

    You should give that Oogie Boogie acapella song a listen. It's by a group called voiceplay and the bass sings the lead. It's amazing!

      Probably not. Why do you think she has the wigs? She can have both this way.

    Rachel, your pattern of choice is one of the BEST patterns ever. Personal experience, speaking, since it is the first pattern I ever used to make my first formal when I was 13 yrs old in 1980.

    I was trying to think of how I could recreate this without doing a dress and immediately got a pimp/casino guy idea and I think I may go with that. Really feeling the pimp style Oogie Boogie tbh 🙈

    Whew! Oogie Boogie homage, watching Back to the Future for the 5 trillionth time, Handbook for the Recently Deceased, thinking a small machine will blow up if you touch it, make your clothes look 300 years old - 1000% relatable. And the dress came out divine! And stop motion!!! U awsum
