Hi, great video! I was trying to clarify something that I didn't get answered in this vid. I have a large rambler house and I need at least two wifi network broadcasters, right now they have different SSIDs and I need to switch manually between them because devices hang on to the connection with the weaker signal even if it barely has a bar. I'm looking at upgrading my system, will access points handle automatically switching your device to the stronger wifi signal and all be on the same SSID? So I'll probably need two access points connected to a regular rouater?
Thank you for the video! Do you think this would work with existing ethernet ports? I rent, so I don’t really want to put a hole through the ceiling in my apartment, but we don’t get internet upstairs. There are many existing ethernet ports and coaxial cables upstairs though.
Question - I have wiring throughout the house, and a router in the closet I want to set up an access point to a wired connection in a bedroom to increase coverage of the existing network I am not trying to use an ‘extender’ that just rebroadcasts a wireless signal - I want to take advantage of my wired Ethernet throughout the house Is an access point what I’m looking for?
Silly question. What happens if you put a wifi6 AP in your ceiling and wifi5 in wall? I'm guessing they will still use the same SSID and switch automatically but you will be limited by which AP your are currently connected to?
Exactly and that is what I have. My old router is wifi5 and my AP is WiFi 6. FYI I use the AP almost all of the time. Its very fast and reliable. Thank you for watching I really appreciate it.
Thanks. I appreciate your informative VID. Two comments, unless I missed it, I am looking for a recommendation from an expert on an outdoor Access Point. Great point! Sorry it's just how I speak! I call my mom and dad guys when I text them! Outdoor access points are installed the same way just install them under a patio or some sort of cover to keep the rain off it. Thank you for watching e.k.sanchez.
Not a problem - just old school! Hey, listen guy, are you suggesting that I MAY be able to use a regular Access Point (not specifically outdoor) outside if I keep it under a patio, or cover? If so, or do you have one in mind that you strongly recommend? Thanks.@@UltimateTechHub
@@e.k.sanchez I would use an outdoor AP because they are built for extreme weather situations. Netgear makes great outdoor APs just do a quick internet search. I can't recommend any specific AP because I haven't installed any. Sorry Gal!
The AP can be connected to a LAN port in your house but it needs a PoE connection unless your AP has a DC power connection then a typical LAN port will work. My Access Points use PoE so I don't need the power supply for the AP its one less wire to get in the way. Hope this helps and thank you for watching!
Hi, tq for your sharing.I have a aruba AP connected from a hub, the connection is like this : layer 2 switch to hub to AP, I don't understand why I cannot get my wifi if I connect AP to the hub but no issues if I connect directly between AP and layer 2 switch.please advice. Thank you.
Would you recommend the Netgear WAX214? I have a 3300sq ft home. It is currently being built so I don’t know the dead zones. It is 2 story. My plan is to purchase 3 of them and space them out evenly from left side to right side of house and mount them on the ceiling of the second story to push signal down. I feel that 3 is more than enough hopefully. I only have spectrum cable so I wont be getting crazy speed just want to have the coverage for future proof when speeds increase.
That's a pretty good plan. I have the Netgear WAX630 AP and it covers 3500 sqft which is usually plenty for most homes. And with this model you can wirelessly add more AP into a Mesh network configuration. If you are building your home make sure to run cat6 to every room and I would run 2 cat 6 to every room. And also run cat6 to your future access points locations for the PoE connections. Also install a network panel so all of the cat6 meet up at that one area where your modem is installed.
@@UltimateTechHub yes I had planned to run cat 6a also to all the main rooms bedrooms/living rooms. But may I ask why 2 to each room? My plan at first was to put my router in the main living room but then I started looking into the POE access points and thought this was a way better idea and not so much of an eye sore being they are white and will match the ceiling. I do have an 8 port Netgear poe+ switch coming in as well for the access points. I know I would want my main tv source and main computers hard wired but the other hard lines are more for just in case. Just wondering why 2 in each room? I will also have the 4k defender series 8 camera installed. Which those aren’t using ethernet just hooked to it for online access. I had planned to put everything in the downstairs pantry as it is the most centralized location and isn’t a hot area like the attic. Also will the signal be ok mounted on the ceiling of the second story for downstairs access. I feel it will be but not sure. I live in a 2 story now and some areas upstairs are spotty with the wifi signal. The router is a Netgear R7400 AC2600. It is located downstairs on a bookshelf about chest height.
@@idlesquirrel The reason you should have 2 Cat6a lines is for expansion and just incase 1 cat6a fails you have a backup. Also that extra cat6a can be used as wall fishing tool to run additional wires like coax or speaker wires or more cat6 cables. The only downside is the extra cost of the additional cable. And the pantry location is fine as long as its not hot and its secure from any issues like kids or animals. You may want to run a cat6a to your front door for a ring doorbell or another brand. The ceiling mount is good for the upstairs but an additional access point should be mounted in the ceiling of the downstairs. I had this situation in my old house and the Wi-Fi was not consistent downstairs especially with lots of users. The access points can be setup as a mesh network and will work together for fantastic wireless coverage. I'm not familiar with the Netgear R7400 AC2600 but it probably only covers 2000 sqft and a 2 story will most likely have some dead zones depending on the routers location.

@@FestusMuberuka Yes both can broadcast a wifi signal or just the wireless access point. The access point (WAP ) gets IP addresses through the router DHCP pool. All IP addresses are on the same Network unless you install 2 separate routers with 2 different IP Network addresses.
Is there an access point that I could use for my guest of my house that would only allow internet access. But no local area access on my home network; maybe just my printers?
With most new Access Points you can block local access to pcs and printers. I recommend Netgear access points. I use the WAX630. How fast is your ISP speed?
@@UltimateTechHub I have Xfinity Internet XFi Advanced Gateway XB7 and I get 695Mbps Upload/ 23.4Mbps download wired
279.8Mbps Upload/22Mbps Download wireless and 365.2Mbps Upload/ 22Mbps Access Point.
I have a Netgear 6 AX1800 Access Point WAX610. I don't see a setting to the access point to limit access to only internet. And I don't see a setting on the Gateway to set the Access point to internet only. I did set on the Gateway to have a static ip on the Access point. I have a Netgear ProSafe 24 port gigabit switch JGS524; this has a connection to my access point.
@@tomm1359 In the Control Panel, click Network and Internet and then Network and Sharing Center. Click Change advanced sharing settings and then choose Turn off file and printer sharing. This should work. Keep me posted.
@@UltimateTechHub Thanks for responding back to me. I appreciate it. I understand what you are saying. But I would like to know if there is a setting I can make on my router or access point that will prevent my guest (to my house) from them preventing on getting on my local network.
I leave my file sharing unprotected so guest could possibly delete complete directories on my network. I would like to just give them the SSID and guest password. And even with their PC with advanced files sharing ON, they could not get on my network. I guess I could put passwords on my pcs on the network. But, it is easier not to put passwords on my pcs. Also if I put passwords on my pcs, I don't think my smart tvs will be able to access Videos on my network. I know on my previous netgear router they have a SSID that you could configure as a Guest Access that would allow only internet access. But now I have to use the Xfinity Gateway (Modem/Router) XB7.
@@tomm1359 The local network settings really depend on which brand router and access point you have. Best option is the guest access on the wifi. My netgear guest access blocks access to pcs and personal data. Hope this helps.
I need to bury ethernet cable to my shed 100 feet away from the router. How much loss will I see in this distance? what is the range of a AP?
Zero loss at 100ft. What kind of cable are you using? Make sure it's rated for outdoor use and bury the cable in some kind of conduit like PVC pipe. You may want to bury 2 cables in the same conduit incase 1 cable fails in the future.
Good luck and keep me posted!
Hello
I had a question, please help
If i use the Access Point TP-LINK TL-WA801ND_V1 Wireless N300 And use an outdoor parabolic dish instead of access point antennas, to send the Wifi 2400 MHz frequency, how far can I receive the frequency 100% without loss of quality ???
Great video! Question, I have the same ruckus AP in living room coming from closet set up as you. I want to get a better signal outside in my backyard. I already have Ethernet cable I ran from the ruckus in the closet to an outdoor tv and other items running through a netgear switch outside . Can I install another AP coming out of the netgear switch? Or would you recommend another method. Don’t really want to spend a fortune on another ruckus just to get a little better Wi-Fi outside if I don’t have to. Thanks!
You could just install a cheap Mesh Wi-Fi system that has 2 or 3 nodes. You would install the main Mesh Node where your wireless router is via a LAN port from the router then set up the mesh wi-fi with the required app. Then place the other 2 nodes, maybe 1 or 2 in your backyard under a patio for weather protection. That would solve your wireless problem. Here is a video I did on a cheap mesh wi-fi system. th-cam.com/video/2SWS8F3HvtU/w-d-xo.html
FYI- this giveaway is already over. But we are going to giveaway this exact mesh system in November or December to a lucky Ultimate Tech Hub viewer so keep an eye on our channel for further details. Thank you for watching I really appreciate it.
can or is it a good idea to replace my wifi router with a wired router and using an ap or 2
Are AP's same as extenders?
No
3 of my Ruckus R510 die at the same time today, is that possible?
Not possible. It's probably your router or switch. Have you reset your network devices? Unplug everything and plug it all back in. Give it about 5 minutes to go back online.
High techhub, I'm wondering if adding another Access point will increase bandwidth and allow more devices to connect than say if I only had one router.
Essentially will an additional router uses for an AP be able to allow say 20+ more devices to connect.
This acces point will work perfectly for your needs. Check out my video I just posted.

basicly its a mesh system?
@maxfeng-w8o Yes in a way.
Is a wireless access point the same as a wifi booster?
No.
Please help me , I have WiFi , I have another router transformed an access point , but the Browser in labtop give me this message (this connection in not private ) , but when I close this router (access point) , the search engine work well with not this message , what solutions please

What of dahua ap
How much is it and how can I get it install with internet provider for monthly payments? I want unlimited subscription
Access points are not installed by ISP providers. You will pay a monthly fee for your ISP service. You will have to install the Access Points or hire someone to do it for you. I have many videos on how to install Wireless Access Points so you can probably do it yourself. Some access points require a yearly subscription for advanced features like cloud management. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching.
How much is the monthly ISP service fee or yearly fee
I have access your videos and I can do same to it. Kindly help me with the total cost for purchase and monthly fee or yearly fee
@@jamesadeniyialimi3657 That depends entirely on your internet provider. not all providers are available in all areas. You'll need to see what's available in your area and what plans they offer.
Hello, I run a business and have up to 30-40 phones on a 2.4ghz network in a close proximity. What is the best option to keep a decent speed and lower or eliminate the disconnects?
I have the same issue also, hope he answers.
Well, I guess i am 2 years late for the giveaway
Lol. Yes. Sorry. We have giveaways every 6 months so keep an eye out.
2mins of blah before starting
Why do you use Ruckus instead of Unifi? Unifi doesn't charge you a subscription to get all the features
I dont pay any subscriptions for my RUCKUS switch or AP. But I do like Unifi systems. If I make a change it will be Unifi. Thanks for watching and for commenting!
Thanks for not showing how it's installed.
This video wasn't intended to show the installation but more of how WiFi access points work. I can make another video that shows the installation. Thank you for watching!
back ground music dominates your teachings...!!!!
@sudheernorway Yes this was an old video and I hardly ever use music anymore. If I do it's barely noticeable. Sorry about that. Thank you for watching.
i'm out - background music too distracting and annoying
Sorry, my older videos were not edited very well. My newer videos over the last year or two have no music. Have a great day.
Why do I need to watch this video, you never suitably explained.
