I am AOF veteran and just by looking at a thumbnail of this video i knew no body's getting a happy ending today. Only way of beating Geese is spamming throw followed by a fireball which stuns him. Repeat this until his lifebar ends.
No sir. This still leaves you open to chance. You can double P Yung Geese with the greatest of ease. If you are a veteran, does that make me an active 4-star general?
The most reliable way I know to beat him (and most of the cast) is the throw, fireball, stun cheese with either John or King. But the further you get into the game it gets MUCH harder to land the first grab and that's not counting if they tech the throw. But once you're in the CPU hardly ever gets out.
i played Art of Fighting 1 and 3, but not 2 since my arcade never had 2. Even though I never played 2, watching this video gave me trauma flashbacks to AoF1 stealing my quarters as a kid. Still holds a place in my heart though since I hated waiting in line to play Street Fighter or Fatal Fury. AoF was always open to play in comparison.
That's why he's only ever put a big prize in this Young Geese challenge and in the General challenge (from Kaiser Knuckle) if I remember well. I don't remember the prize of the KOF 95 Rugal challenge.
Art of Fighting 1 and 2 are a real pain in the ass to complete. Controls are delayed just enough for the AI to always beat you to a punch and the damage bosses can dish out are outright unfair even for SNK standards.
They all have a pattern to them and can be beaten easily. The one tech that works is throw them then fireball right after. In the harder difficulty, you might not stun but you'll be doing damage.
I beated him with Ryo. I spammed the Hien Shippuu Kyaku against him everytime he used the Reppuken trying at the same time to charge the ki. Give me the money
And these features are in early games. However the later games, running on better systems, lack most or all of that. Even SNK abandoned it. But it's still possible to be fair and considerate and act like it's fine because the late 90s sprite quality and animations became more complex, and the games came in every 1-2 years. But now in the era of 3d graphics there's no excuse. 3d made the fg production easier and more efficient in many sides, especially these details. All games could have had some of that since the PS3 gen versions. Bruises, or clothes damage of some sort, or assessories that come out, etc. I think the only game that made any respectable move in that sense was MK9. And since then we only see a few modest steps in that direction from time to time. A new Tekken is about to come with good graphics but still none of those features. And Soul Calibur 6 had an interesting clothes damage feature, but nobody else wants to do it. The genre in the 2020s still has to match the level of passion, attention to detail, and creative energy of the early 90s scene.
street fighter will never have anything good it is trash by default. it will never have the qualities of a good fighting game. it will never reach snk level
"I have never touch Fatal Fury or Art of Fighting" ⬆ This made me cry on the inside. My first SNK game series was in fact Fatal Fury and I main Terry, Andy, Mai and Kim lol
@@EldritchMephi It sucks you was robbed of an arcade experience. Think of it as a casino for kids but without the gambling addiction and alcohol. You could make a ton of lifetime friends and have friendly rivalries there
I was first exposed to SNK with CVS2 on the Xbox in '01, but since then I've played a lot of their fighters. The Real bout series is probably my favorite of theirs (RB Special and RB2 are PHENOMENAL, roght up there with Garou and SamSho II in terms of overall game quality, imo), but SamSho and KoF are VERY close seconds. I've been very exposed to Art of Fighting and have been around a lot of people talking about World Heroes and King of the Monsters, but I currently have yet to play either....which feels like a crime because Yuri is one of my mains in CVS1 & 2, as well as KOF '99 and XIV.
That thinking doesn't work that way, no matter how bad you want to talk about the zoomer gaming culture. There is a ton of Americans who are old schoolers from the arcade times but are or were very ignorant about the SNK world. Since I started to follow this scene and pay attention to this topic in the 00s, I've heard many say they got to know SNK only in CvS, which is an early 00s game and made by Capcom. Which is kinda surprising and ridiculous as SNK started making fgs in 91, and made much more fgs than Capcom (counting literally everything by Capcom)... yet all that history was missed by them. Their classic fg culture is or was limited, but since that ignorance of SNK was alright as it was shared by others in the arcade community. The fact is that the American classic 2d fg culture is dominated by Capcom, and a notable symptom of that is how Evo never gave a place to any SNK game before KOF 13, that only happened when Evo became more commercial and opened to every new fg release in general.

I don't know how many time I've heard "Die Elbow ' lol. I've got to him on the Neo Geo CD version thanks to the save before Mr Big. SNK Boss Syndrome went completely vital with every character in Art of Fighting 2 no matter what difficulty you pick lol.

It's hard to throw him, fireball and then get him stunned, but you can still do it without keeping him on a stunlock. I tell you something that's shocking. In Art of Fighting 2 (Ryuuko No Ken 2) Young Geese can throw Reppukens regardless of his chi or spirit meter whether it's full or empty.

Art of Fighting 2 is legit the hardest fighting game I ever played. I don't think I actually ever beat this game on my Neo Geo, the AI is absolutely brutal here. Just being able to reach Geese is a feat in its own right as I believe you have to beat the game without using a continue (or even losing a round?)
Justin, you can cancel anyone's fireball in this game by tapping standing heavy kick with certain characters, others have different buttons I can't remember cause this game is so old!!! I would've beaten him effortlessly back in my day!

Man watching this series from Justin I forgot just how much of 90's SNK boss design is just you do like 5% damage per combo and the boss just does like 30-50% per combo or even single move. It really did just come down to finding a frame perfect AI loop and exploiting it to have any hope in hell of winning and even then that relied on you managing to land the perfect magic opening hit twice in the same game. Usually something where the AI just can't block it on wake up for whatever weird quirk of it's programming. Very few moves per game usually fit this criteria though.
