    I've been watching your videos since at least 3 years ago and I've always wanted to invite you to my place in Italy but I never thought you'd ever consider making videos in Europe. My home was built in the 1400s and has lots of land around it. up to 25 farmers used to live and work there. I'm now in Japan for work but I always go back there as my parents still live that house. We've owned it since 1972 when metal detectors were't a thing, so it's never been searched.

    Chill Bills description of the wild boars is dead accurate to the States. Especially here in Florida, they will come through and literally "bulldoze" or root -up an entire homes yard or 40' sq patch of forest.

    Good for you, Brad and good of Chill Bill to take you Adventuring. I laughed when he said, "Don't fall in", you laughed too, until you looked down the well, that is. My brother-in-law found a gold Napoleon coin detecting at old slave quarters right outside of Baton Rouge Louisiana about 2 decades ago. It was under the house, probably fell through the floorboards which were only filled with saw dust. Beautiful condition, like it had never been used.

    Having no idea as to what sort of silver has been coming up for Chill Bill, I have to say that - at least in my French neck of the woods - Napoleon I coins are rather rare, Napoleon III silver much less. So for me, that silver really is a great find Brad.

    When you showed the standing home I first thought of the three little pigs story. Straw, sticks and brick. I guess because of the thick walls of brick and it was still standing and then Bill starts talking about the wild boar in that area. Weird coincidence. The fireplace hearth was awesome!

    • @johnmorgenthaler3611
      @johnmorgenthaler3611 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The way they were dug first the bricks are layered up to build about a four foot tall section of the well casing. Then from inside the casing
      You dig And hand out the dirt,you dig under the brick and slowly the casing lowers. The digger is protected from cave in and helpers at the top haul the dirt out .All the brick work is done at the top as the whole cylinder slides down the hole until you hit water. It’s truely simple
      But also amazing

    It's definitely rare to see a "standing" colonial home in the woods of New England. The stone lined cellar holes make it, as do the chimneys occasionally, but these folks figured out that a log/timber home was the way to go when settling. Especially when all you have is what is around you.

    I live and detect in rural Normandy. I have had several (too) close encounters with wild boar. I was head down swinging and something made me look up and a sow and her piglets had just emerged from a stand of maize just in front of me. 10 yards. It was like a mini fighting bull. I slowly turned round and made myself walk rather than run. (Pointless running. a middle aged woman in baggy wellies isn't going to outrun anything.) It was a big open field and I didn't dare turn around. just walked steadily and hoped the pglets didn't want to follow. Eventually got to a friend's house, about 400 yards away. knocked on the door and my legs were like jelly. lol Had some others but that was the most dangerous. Now, of course, we have wolves in our forest so that gives me pause. I tend not to detect alone in there anymore. I take hubby as a decoy (he doesn't realise this) lol.

    You need a Platypus in your backpack. I'm guessing it probably has the 'holes' pre-made in it for a hydration pack like a Platypus. You can put any liquid you want in the Platypus but it would hold enough water that you could wash your coins and have water to drink without having to take anything out of your backpack or carry any excess plastic in and out of a hike. I highly recommend it.

    Did you find any WW2 artifacts? Too bad you couldn't make your way over to the Ardennes Forest.

    How does it work with the landowners? Do they get everything? First choice? (speaking of inside the US)

    That buckle you found you thought was a shoe buckle, it may have been a hat buckle, I can remember many paintings of them having those on their hats. Thank you for the video!

    Well, the reason why this brickstone wall at the beginning was so thick is, there is normaly a gap in the middle of the wall going all the way through the wall. When the sun hits the outer wall the air in the gap is heating up, moving around and isolates the inner wall. Kepps the house warm and cozy in winter times and cool in the summer. We here in Germany used to build houses like this until the 1950.

    My sister has an old home in the south of France, so cool to explore, many ruins. People have inhabited France since Neanderthal times. So much history
