I'm sitting in Sydney right now, I live here. Never heard of Ox & Palm corned beef. When I was at sea on the ocean liners it was well known that Australian corned beef came way down the list of desirability. Having eaten corned beef for nigh on 80 years I can say that cold is best. Hot only with potatoes, never on its own. Tinned corned beef is not salt junk, the sea term for corned beef, which is basically salt pumped (pickled) or just salted beef, which is better than tinned if one wants hot food. Hereford is the best! Stick in the fridge before opening because that makes it easier to remove from the can and slice. I love it cold in a sandwich even if it's the only thing in the sandwich with mustard or Mayo depending on your taste.
Found Hereford varies wildly can to can. Sometimes it is really good, other times it.would make a hotdog sick. If they could work that out it could be great.
I've never noticed much difference between brands here in the UK. These days they all seem to be from Brazil and are good quality. I much prefer them chilled rather than warmed up.

i'm happy that a philippine brand made it to your list but there are two other brands that are at par if not better than your choice and these are purefoods and delimonde.
I'll agree wholeheartedly with Libby's canned corned beef being the best. But, at $7.99 a can, it's definitely a treat. I haven't tried libby's hash, though. I usually go with Brookdale from Aldi for both hash and corned beef. i also like mary kitchen and Meijer's store brand. I had some of the Meijer's hash mixed with a little bit of the Libby's corned beef for lunch and it was excellent. i want to try some of the brands they listed on here that I've never heard of like Grace and Jamaican country Style. I've never seen them in the stores so I guess I'll have to shop the Net for them.
The Clover Valley version of SPAM is great too. A tad less salty and we think better flavored. My wife had nightshade allergies, which includes potatoes. SPAM has potato starch in it. CV does not. Got a great deal on some cabbage at the local (small) grocery and there is a Dollar General just up the hill. I'll have to grab some of the CV Corned Beef if they have some. I've found quite a few of the Clover Valley branded foods are pretty good.
I buy Hormel's Mary Kitchens or Libby's. And I'd have to say that both are good. I generally stick to these two brands because I am familiar with their consistency in taste. I learned at an early age that bargain brands do not do well when it comes to corned beef. But, I will say that I have an Aldi's up the block from me and I will give Brookdale a try. I like it cooked crispy with 3 eggs over the top with OJ for breakfast or Pepsi for lunch or dinner.
Love Libby's Corned Beef!!! My Dad loved it since WWII. With diced potatoes and onions with toast and eggs fried or scrambled. Just perfect. I do it myself as an occasional treat.. 😋😋😋😋❤❤❤❤
When I was very poor I used to buy this stuff that was canned in Brazil and cost only $2/lb. It did not taste like corned beef, it was very fishy. I called it "corned fish". I would get two weeks out of a can, just a little bit in a bowl of rice
I love Corned Beef Hash and eggs and so when I was in Aldi I bought the Brookdale Corned Beef Hash ($1.59/15oz can). I was not prepared for what happened next. I decided to make corned beef hash and eggs for breakfast the next day however, when I opened the can of Brookdale brand I was turned off. It was gray making me think air had gotten into the can. I emptied the whole can onto a plate and it was pink and gray. I took a picture and went to Aldi and showed the manager. He gave me another can to replace the one I opened however, two days later when I opened the can, the same! This was shocking as it is made by Hormel. So, I have been forced to go back to the expensive Mary Kitchen Hash ($2.99/15oz can), made by Hormel.
Eeeek! Glad I've never had that happen. but it does make some sense that you might get a bad can. After all, most store brands are usually the cast offs of prominent name brands...inferior or second batches, I'm guessing. but yeah, that would definitely turn me off.
Ox and Palm recall was a technical importation issue- the importer into USA did not submit cans to FDA for inspection- they sent them on to retailers. Ox and Palm is an excellent product. Way better than the usual crap on the shelves and well worth the money. At the Asian stores you can get 1/2 size cans which are very handy
Worth to try in your review the Phillippine-made Delimondo Ranch Style Corned Beef. Good to know a Philippine brand Argentina Corned Beef made it to your list. In the 80's there is another good tasting Philippine made corned beef, the Rodeo Corned Beef, not sure if it is still available coz I haven't seen them in the grocery shelves anymore.
In terms of corned beef hash, you missed Mary Kitchen, which is very good. The only corned beef I can find here in the wasteland of NW CT is Libby's, but the last can was disappointing. I will have to check out the Aldi brand, but our local store is currently featuring mostly empty shelves. Very useful video.
can't believe argentina made it on the list. It does taste good but i'd put it in 3rd place . I prefer Delimondo - garlic and chili). But I'm still happy that it's here.
Locally I can get Hormel Mary Kitchen and Libby's Corned Beef Hash but I've found that at Smart and Final stores I can get their store brand First Street Corned Beef Hash. The flavor is really good and it's less fatty than the other two I mention here. And it's about $1 less per can.
Here in the Philippines, "Virginia" brand is most popular -- because customers consider COST and TASTE. If money is no object, "Purefoods" -- which has the Hormel license -- is the best local brand. Purefoods also sells "Chunky Corned Beef", a low-cost but high flavor product. Canned CB is sold by every store -- BUT -- FRESH CB is very difficult to find in the supermarkets. Purefoods Chunky CB is what I buy, even if I can easily afford the imported Hereford and Libby brands.
I haven't eating canned corned beef for decades, but in my days in Hawaii, Libby's was the best. It was a product of Argentina. Sweet onions, poi and Libby's corned beef was " da bomb".
My good fellow you nailed it!! My self has been consuming Libby’s corned beef since about 1937, and today I still By it by the case. I do have one minor comment, the suggestion that Spam doesn’t compare. Spam is Spam corned beef is corned beef. During WW2, Spam was a very welcome item on the table, it all depends on the preparation . I also buy Spam by the case, you either like it or you don’t.
Ox&Palm on rice with egg is one of my wife's favorites. She is Phillipina and grew up eating corned beef. I prefer crisp corned beef loaf, only really available around St. Pattie's Day.
I buy my corned beef at the Dollar General Store. Their Clover Valley brand is a product of Brazil, and tastes really good. Cooked beef, beef, salt, sugar and sodium nitrate. I just hope that the second ingredient is cooked too.
I moved from Calif. to the Philippines 2010. Canned corned beef wasn't very big in Calif. but here in the Philippians it's one of the most common foods. I haven't tried Argentina, maybe I should, but my favorite has been Virginia, but Pure Foods was also good.
Crown brand from Australia is the best! Can be found in Asian markets. As for corned beef in the Philippines, I find Delimundo, American and Purefoods to be the best ones in the market.
In France, most of the time I can only find Hereford brand Corned Beef and it's good. Sometime Exeter one can be found because they make a halal version. I just checked my pantry and I only have an unbranded can of corned beef, simply labeled "corned beef". I bought it from Lidl or a discount store, I can't really remember, but I checked the back and it was made in France by Covi SAS... the parent company of Hereford. But in the end, corned beef is not really popular in France.
In my just over 60 years of life in Canada I have never known any canned corned beef other than Hereford. I realise there are other brands but I and my family have only bought Hereford for as far back as I can remember. Nice to see it ranking so high on this list, but I already knew it was good.
Tried dozens of major brands worldwide, but I think the one I tried in my vacation in the Philippines is the best one… Purefoods, more pricey here in the States but it’s worth it…
I have tried the blind taste test between Libby's, Hereford, and Walmart. All three have an identical stamp on the metal top which states it's a product of Brazil and contains the same identifying information, product and official inspection numbers. They taste the same to me and have the same texture. Save your money next time and buy the best priced of what you find on the shelf the day you're looking for it. Oh, and if you're making your own hash with it try substituting boiled turnip root for the potatoes. Uhm good.
The SIF stamp on The cans means Federal Inspection Service - (Serviço de Inspeção Federal) , and its mandatory for all The food producers to stamp it on products here in Brazil. Note that The only thing that Will change is The number on this stamp that refers to the company code.
I'm a Filipino, and considering Argentina as a good corned beef is mind-boggling. It's the worst corned beef I have ever tasted. It's too salty, too watery, and the actual texture of this brand is remotely far from what I would expect from a good corned beef.
Bought some at SM, immediately regretted buying for the price. Disgusting soggy mush and it even had pieces of bone. I'll stick with libby and hereford from now on.
OX & PALM is made by Heinz Australia. The red label round squat cans are quite good and chunky style. The "squarish" cans Americans are used to are like the video says, but I do find them better than the Brazilian and other South American brands.
Essentially you told me what I have always believed, Corn beef should come in nice big slices with cabbage and boiled potatoes and beer on St. Patty's Day or between two pieces of rye bread, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing or horseradish. It should not be run through a meat grinder with potatoes and added gunk looking and tasting like dog food by any company.
As a kid in the Fifties, and teen in the Sixties here in Western Canada, by far my favourite was Boston Corned Beef from Australia. It was common where I lived then. Disappeared from the radar some time between 1966 and 1988... not sure why. I loved the texture and the taste. No brand today matches it. Anyone have a clue what happened to it? Wish it was still available, unchanged.
I like to use southern style frozen hash potatoes. Melt butter in a skillet (to taste, it's your hash), add diced onions if you like and sauté until the color changes a little. Add your amount of potatoes and let the frost cook off. Add your corned beef in small chunks. I like black pepper in mine too. Once I add the corned beef I kind of fold over to warm, rather than mixing and stirring. If that makes sense. Eggs plated with it are always a nice added touch of protein!
I sometimes buy the Hormel corned beef hash but never tried it with a sunny-side egg before. What is the best way to prepare this together? Do you first fry the corned beef hash in cooking oil in a frying pan and put the egg on top of the corned beef hash in and above the the hash already in the pan? Or do you cook (fry) the hash until it is completely browned and THEN put the egg in the pan on top of the already cooked hash?
Non Jamaican? Jamaica is not the only country in the Caribbean. We all eat corn beef. Yes I’m shocked they’re even talking about it. 😁. I usually get Libby’s. I’m gonna try Grace.
@@joanneclegg939 , Grace is a excellent brand.. Libby’s is second for me…If available, try any of the other Grace products (eg.) pepper sauce, ketchup, spices, can Ackee, can coconut milk & powdered , just too many to list. Anything with a Grace label is very good. Not familiar with the Jamaican Country Style brand. Never had or seen there products. They might be based out of Miami,Florida, started in the 1980s. I left Jamaica 🇯🇲 in the 1980s. Eat on my fellow foodie!😊
Libby's corned beef and Mary Kitchen hash have been standards in our household for years. I like both of them frazzled well in a frying pan, and when I want to give my arteries a workout, I fry them with bacon. Salty but tasty!
Hamper brand Australian made corned beef is the best I have ever tasted. It is in a yellow tin for anyone in oz. I have tryed every other brand that is available in Australia and they are all well a let down and made in Brazil.
Ox and Palm, Palm, are my top favorites. Both have more beef fat than the other brands, but since I love beef fat, it is no problem for me. I personally would not trade these 2 brands for any other brand/brands...but to each his own.
If you do your research you'll find most of those including Libbys and Great Value at Walmart are from Brazil. They are in the same Can and have the exact same stamp on the bottom of the can. Over 90% of canned corned beef is made in Brazil.
That's my understanding of the situation too.... But...Pray tell, how come I cannot find Corned Beef in Chile...."Just down the road" from Brazil? When their product is widely known all around the world?
The SIF stamp on The cans means Federal Inspection Service - (Serviço de Inspeção Federal) , and its mandatory for all The food producers to stamp it on products here in Brazil. Note that The only thing that Will change is The number on this stamp that refers to the company code.
As for Exeter, they'd also changed the label to a more modern version, complete with an illustration of the meat content. The copycats hadn't gotten the menu though.
Definitely Hormel! I love both Corned Beef and corned beef hash. I love slices of Hormel Corned Beef on toast. It is a fantastic sandwich room temperature. However, I prefer hash warmed and sometimes with a little ketchup or Catalina dressing for a slight kick in flavor. I keep an extra key to unwind Corned Beef cans as sometimes in storage at home, I occasionally have lost one. I refrigerate leftover Corned Beef, but occasionally warm it in the microwave to all most room temperature. Libby brand is second best in flavor. Corned Beef is a fast, quick meal with little fuss or mus! ❤
Swift brand corn beef from Dollar General Stores, that is made in Brazil, is the closest thing I found to the chunk style corned beef that I grew up with in the 50s and 60s.
For real, i already had a clue the review was coming from someone that doesn't know what good canned corned beef is, especially after she said Libby's is good,🤣
It is unfortunate that this blog deals in product largely available East of the Rockies and Mississipi River Confusing too is that most of the cans are products of Brazil; further there is a difference between corned beef hash and corned beef in a can and why they are grouped together is not especially helpful as there are other brannds of corned beef available; I have two different ones in my pantry
I live in Toronto. You can get most of these corned beef brands in the grocery stores here (you might need find the appropriate ethnically oriented store). Funnily enough, in 50 years I have never seen Libby's corned beef. Hereford and Grace are quite common. Hereford is my favourite from when I was a kid.
I tried Ox and Palm corned beef, discovered I'd bought a can of fat, threw it out (all six cans of the bilge). My personal favorite is Hereford's low sodium version. I hate salty food, particularly meat, so this is perfect.
My ears pricked up when you got to the Aldi can called Brookdale in America. Now I live in the UK and their corned beef is called Bramwells. Do you think it's the same product as the Brookdale in the States or is it completely different?
Corned beef even if cooked from corned or salted brisket does have a certain amount of beef fat. If cooking with canned corn beef the main error is adding to much of additional oils when cooking with onions and cabbage. Chilling a can before opening to eat straight out of a can is another tip, as the excess fat can be isolated. Before spam from the US was made available in WW2 the main canned meet supplied to British and Commonwealth troops as combat rations was corned beef. The bully beef and biscuit (Hard tack in thinned biscuit style) was a field ration staple along with what ever was available plus the ubiquitous vitamin C tablets.
Your cornbeef hash is totally different from mine my cornbeef hash which my mother made is 1 tin of cornbeef I full tim tomatoes with juice same with a Tin of peas potatoes cut in cubes add water boil until potatoes are soft add gravy granules then eat totally yummy budget friendly if done in a big pot.
I never knew corned beef came in a can until I moved to the Philippines. In Oregon it comes as real brisket and is in a plastic bag in the meat section of the stores. You can take it home, slow cook it with your veggies (or no veggies) and slice it with a knife. It's better than any of the canned stuff ever thought of being.
I like them all honestly. None that I dislike. Pure foods from the Philippines is best and I even like Walmart's great value which we bought for $3.34 a can. It's best with rice sautéed with onions, garlic and tomatoes the way they do it in the Philippines. I will mix room temp CB with a little mayo and mustard and spread it on bread or crackers.
Delimondo corned beef produced in the Philippines is absolutely the best I've ever had. Their garlic and chili flavored is delicious. The ranch flavor is also very good. I mix half and half of both flavors so it's not to spicy for the boys. You definitely missed this one on your list, but you're forgiven. 😉
Swift Premium Corned Beef from the Philippines is my go to.. Not too salty and less Nitrites.. Nozaki’s Corned Beef from Japan is the one I have yet to taste..
I grew up on both Hormel and Libbys versions (vaguely remember the Devil one that came with a white paper type packaging but always thought it was called Devil's Food) Mix it with mashed potatoes is the way my dad used to make patties served with sunny side up or over easy eggs. Also, stir fry with cabbage, onion, and ketchup served with rice. My childhood, completely.
Yup...and YUM!! Growing up in NYC, these were the two corned beef hash brands that were always available. (Also liked Underwood's spreads, like Underwood Deviled Ham Spread, et al. -- that little logo with the devil 😈) I still LOVE Hormel/Libbys/Mary Kitchens hash...stove-top heated in a frying pan (bring on the olive oil & chives!) and a fried egg in the center. YUM!
My other mother "mummy Ivy" used to make me shepards pie with Australian Hamper brand corned beef ,onions and tomato. I so miss that dish. No she is not dead (yet) just in a nursing home but still speaks of it to me.

Mary kitchen is great it's actually a hormel brand
can't believe argentina made it on the list. It does taste good but i'd put it in 3rd place . I prefer Delimondo - garlic and chili). But I'm still happy that it's here.
Marrys Kitchen .. Absolute Top
thanks for this and i will try the Aldi as I have a new Aldi open by me but do not know the brand they sell.
i tried the Aldi brand but it was not nice, it tasted greasy and was very mushy.
I will save you time. Libby’s is hands down the best. Been eating it for years.
How do you prepare it?
Hello from Canada. The only brand I have seen in store you listed is hereford. Glad I picked a winner from our options
Goya has a very strong moral compass, and their quality reflects that. Didn't know that had corned beef but I will buy it.
Goya supports trump, no thanks
@@barbarajohnson3876 Trump knows about meat, memba "Trump Steaks" he's also fat, so he must know something.
Aldi's Brookdale corned beef hash is great with eggs on toast. Next best Mary Kitchen corned beef hash is excellent too but nearly costs twice.
I haven't eating canned corned beef for decades, but in my days in Hawaii, Libby's was the best. It was a product of Argentina. Sweet onions, poi and Libby's corned beef was " da bomb".
Libby is what I eat
Was it from Argentina? Im from Argentina and you wont find such product here, maybe all of the production is exported but that would be weird.
@@Coyote27981 This was before 1950. Libby's shifted to Made in Brazil some years later.
Also try Deli Mundo
Canned corned beef was always available in CA. Still is, you must have lived in a very remote area not to have seen it readily available.
does Argentins still produce corned beef from its own cattle?
Tried dozens of major brands worldwide, but I think the one I tried in my vacation in the Philippines is the best one… Purefoods, more pricey here in the States but it’s worth it…
Thanks So Much 😍
Purefoods corned beef from the Philippines is the best corned beef I’ve ever had, it can be bought at some Asian stores in the U.S. 👍👍
Stop crying..let the content alone.
True. It's only super affordable that's why a lot of Filipinos are buying it but when it comes to taste, it's not a legit corned beef for me.
I thought the same thing when she said that too. It's easily the worst corned beef I've had.
Bought some at SM, immediately regretted buying for the price. Disgusting soggy mush and it even had pieces of bone. I'll stick with libby and hereford from now on.
You are so right! Ty
Purefoods corned beef still the best
Thank you for this video
OX & PALM is made by Heinz Australia. The red label round squat cans are quite good and chunky style. The "squarish" cans Americans are used to are like the video says, but I do find them better than the Brazilian and other South American brands.
MIGHT be made BY Heinz Australia, but it's not made IN Oz! Only sold in PNG, so my guess is made IN PNG, from Aussie meat!
Very nice to see Grace cornbeef here. Jamaican cornbeef is top tier stuff
Ox& palm are the best canned corned beef ever!!
I use it to make homemade hash. I can of corned beef , 1/2 an onion and 1 can of spring potatoes. Season to taste.
The only one I know is Hereford. It's the only one we get. I live in Canada
It's the best.
Grace is also in Canada, Great value too.
We have Exeter in Canada as well .
Either way! But if you want the egg over easy you'll have to do it separately. Or at least it's much easier that way without breaking the yolk.
As a Jamaican I am shocked to hear anyone that is non Jamaican talk about bully beef! The absolute best brand is hereford then Grace
You are right but l find hormel to be better than grace
Eve is better . Grace is too fatty. Its like pottted meat
Here in Trinidad I love rainbow cornbeef
I Love Libby's brand Corned Beef, I and onions and potatoes and I Sunnyside eggs. Delicious for breakfast!!
I make m.y own hash add par boiled potatoes and onions with Sunnyside up eggs
ALDI’s Brookdale brand is really good and it’s a lot less expensive than Libby’s.
Moms fav Libbys. 3 generations later & still #1 ruler!🇺🇸 Glad y'all think so too 🙏
Hamper brand Australian made corned beef is the best I have ever tasted. It is in a yellow tin for anyone in oz. I have tryed every other brand that is available in Australia and they are all well a let down and made in Brazil.
Ooohh yesss!! Australian brand Hamper is my favorite and by far the best👍. I used to like Palm but Hamper took it to another level for me😋
I really appreciate throwing in Joel from MST for a quick "It Stinks" lol
Ox and Palm, Palm, are my top favorites. Both have more beef fat than the other brands, but since I love beef fat, it is no problem for me. I personally would not trade these 2 brands for any other brand/brands...but to each his own.
Hereford is sold at Dollar General and is way cheaper than most brands you displayed. I’m trying it with my cabbage tonight, hope it turns out good
I don't think you can go wrong with Hereford. I just love it !!!
I like Purefoods corned beef and Del Mundo corned beef.. they taste better than any other corned beef i tried.
The Underwood spread is like a salt toothpaste, and I would choose the mythical toothpaste!!
Swift brand corn beef from Dollar General Stores, that is made in Brazil, is the closest thing I found to the chunk style corned beef that I grew up with in the 50s and 60s.
I love Libby's corned beef hash
Ox and Palm are the best-corned beef!
🏆Ox & Palm are my favorite corned beef 🐂 and it's pretty expensive and are so delicious with fried onion 🌰 🥘 with eggs 🥚 Sunnyside up 🍳.😋🥘🍳🍞🍚👍
For real, i already had a clue the review was coming from someone that doesn't know what good canned corned beef is, especially after she said Libby's is good,🤣
It's a luxury here in Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 Super expensive but people still buy it 😁
What about MARIO'S Corned Beef, that I bought at Walmart, here in Canada?
It is unfortunate that this blog deals in product largely available East of the Rockies and Mississipi River Confusing too is that most of the cans are products of Brazil; further there is a difference between corned beef hash and corned beef in a can and why they are grouped together is not especially helpful as there are other brannds of corned beef available; I have two different ones in my pantry
🥰🥰🥰 My favorite corned beef is Hampers, but I have tried Hydale from Aldis. Reg from QLD Australia.
Funny that, ‘cause at that time in Canada you could buy Libby’s baked beans and a host of other canned items.
Mmmmm Libbys beans!
What about the french brand "Dorset" I don t find anything about it on the web
I like, fatty, grass fed, corned beef.
Great value and Brookdale hash are made by Hormel and both very good with sunny side up eggs.
I tried Ox and Palm corned beef, discovered I'd bought a can of fat, threw it out (all six cans of the bilge). My personal favorite is Hereford's low sodium version. I hate salty food, particularly meat, so this is perfect.
A Can of lipos whole shiat
Herfoord is the best
My ears pricked up when you got to the Aldi can called Brookdale in America. Now I live in the UK and their corned beef is called Bramwells. Do you think it's the same product as the Brookdale in the States or is it completely different?
You lost me at Libbys. And I can’t believe Palm and Delimondo weren’t on the list. Clearly this list needs to be updated
PPP
I never knew corned beef came in a can until I moved to the Philippines. In Oregon it comes as real brisket and is in a plastic bag in the meat section of the stores. You can take it home, slow cook it with your veggies (or no veggies) and slice it with a knife. It's better than any of the canned stuff ever thought of being.
Mmm can't go wrong with corned beef on rye
Delimondo and Purefoods Corned Beef brands. These two should be ranked as among the world's best.
Ox and Palm...grassfed...fatty? Not a good corned beef? Ox and Palm is exactly what you should be eating!
Said the Filipino that works for ox and palm!
@@HandlewearyI wish I worked there... I'd be getting a discount! Everything is so expensive now...
Hereford....but at Costco it comes in circular can. Very tasty
I like the Libby's Roast beef hash. Once I bought a can of corned beef hash and it had the taste buds of the cow's tongue still on it.
caldereta flavor you ahould try also
Well now I have to find this in Virginia lol
Swift Premium Corned Beef from the Philippines is my go to.. Not too salty and less Nitrites.. Nozaki’s Corned Beef from Japan is the one I have yet to taste..
I grew up on both Hormel and Libbys versions (vaguely remember the Devil one that came with a white paper type packaging but always thought it was called Devil's Food)
Mix it with mashed potatoes is the way my dad used to make patties served with sunny side up or over easy eggs.
YUM!
Underwood was an independent Massachusetts company that made great products. Now it's just a brand owned by a big corporation with a so-so product.
My other mother "mummy Ivy" used to make me shepards pie with Australian Hamper brand corned beef ,onions and tomato. I so miss that dish. No she is not dead (yet) just in a nursing home but still speaks of it to me.
I just had Brookdale
cornbeef 🌽 🍖 yesterday from Aldi wow dam good😋👍 going back for more
