I use to love to go to this mall when I was a little boy with my parents! I recently went in this mall before the end of last year and was very disappointed to see how it came down! Hopefully they will redevelop the mall like they are doing Pembroke mall and how they redevelop Hampton coliseum mall into peninsula town center!
I saw a mall that had been converted into apartments on the upper level while keeping several shops on the lower level. A person could just stay inside and roam the mall for exercise or to eat, get a haircut and buy clothes. They had a nice coffee shop and several small restaurants and a convenience store. It was soooo nice! It was ideal for elderly folks who are still able to be independent enough to not need a lot of senior care. When the weather is bad they have all the room in the world to still get exercise, be around people and have everything they need without ever going outdoors. If I had the money to live in a place like that, I would totally do it.
I've always found it odd that the anchor stores owned their real estate while the mall operator owned the rest of the mall. As pointed out in the video, that can hold up redevelopment. But truthfully, the anchor stores aren't doing much better than the malls themselves.

I’ve been living in Chesapeake for about nine years now and I am so sad and distressed that this mall is shutting down.
I used to hang out there like 15 years ago, they had some cool independent stores. Plus an awesome record store… I miss being young.
It's in Virginia because it says in the video later. There are alot of greenbriers in the USA

Let’s be real. No one shops in the mall. We shop at the target and occasionally stroll through the mall thinking “wow. This is dead.”
My favorite mall is leaving
