That IS a heartwarming story. More should be done to at LEAST Be environmentally useful with older churches. Instead of demolition, make them community centers, offices, stores or very interesting creative habitations.
Het is zeker jammer maar de kerk werd al jaren niet gebruikt maar we hebben nog wel 2 andere kerken in het dorp hoor dus ja misschien hadden ze er een cultureel centrum van kunnen maken maar die staat er al 1 nog geen 500 meter verderop

unlike what demo crews do in america , the dutch recycle , for that reason their demo is very systematic and calculated , not like americans whom seem to be in a race to tear it down asap and put everything onto the same heap without sorting materials .
I was saddened to see how much of the beautiful thing wasn't salvaged ..... maybe there was more we didn't get to see ..... the blokes were pretty quick to get the copper flashing 😇
This should be paid for complete work, because if it's payed per hour...... The operator knows how to operate the crane, but must to receive a little notion of how the structure works. With this, the roof should be done in less than the half time it lasted.

Da ich selber Baumaschinen fahre, mag man mir ein kurzes Statement über den Fahrstil nicht verübeln. Ich finde es zT etwas kurios wie der Maschinenführer an die Sache herangeht, und es macht mir auch den Anschein, dass er, vielleicht auch nur auf dieser Maschine noch nicht über sehr viel Erfahrung verfügt. Sowohl von der Arbeit an sich als auch der Führung der Maschine.

Wat was de reden tot sloop van zo een pracht gebouw, was er niet de mogelijk heid om de buitenzijde te laten staan en aan de binnenzijde appartementen er in te maken?
Er is overwogen om er een multifunctioneel centrum van te maken. Technisch was dat mogelijk, maar de staat van de voormalige kerk en het jaarlijks onderhoud ná verbouwing maakte het simpelweg te duur. Op de plaats van deze kerk ligt nu een deel van de centrumring. De pastorie staat er nog wél, en de spits is gespaard gebleven, die staat nu op een kleine sokkel schuin tegenover waar de kerk stond.

And all of that unreinforced masonry and brickwork - massive compressive strength but virtually no tensile (sideways) strength, as we saw. The slightest unexpected earthquake would spell disaster for this building and many others like it. IMO, a timely deconstruction.
there were girders above the arches. I think they were anchored in the walls. But I agree, if a quake of about 6 for a minute hits any European city, not much will be remaining upright. With that I also mean modern "safe" structures. They are usually too stiff, especially those of concrete.

I am lately reading up a lot on American building methods and in specific reasons for premature collapse of those structures due to speed building, cutting corners for early completion and budgets cuts . European church building is in this case down to a science and they stand for centuries without failure. It just seemed like that I guess

Und bevor ein Gebäude nicht mehr genutzt wird und langsam vor sich hin rottet bis zum Zerfall...wäre ein Abriss sicher eine denkbare Variante. Den Zerfall von, gerade Denkmalgeschützen Gebäuden, welche nur unter enorm hohem, finanziellem Aufwand gemacht werden darf sieht man ja oft genug.
