    Thanks for sharing. My wife's 2016 is barely 2.5 years old w/ 60K and the battery is already toast. I was really surprised when I pressed the start button, heard a few clicks, dash lights came on and off and it didn't start. After a few tries it fired up and got us home. Can't believe a battery would die that quickly. My 2001 4Runner w/ a Diehard battery always lasts at least 5 years.
    One recommendation to you and others, I was always taught to completely remove the negative terminal first, otherwise if it is still connected and you have your wrench on the positive terminal and accidentally touch it to something that is grounded on the car, such as those 10mm posts that hold the battery down, you can risk arcing the battery to ground which can be very dangerous.
    I like your black ratchet and socket, pretty slick.

      Derek Wichmann what other indications did you have the battery was bad?
      I started mine today, brake pedal was jerky and she would barley crank then died. Had all kinds of lights on the dash as well

      Sara Iyer it was the battery. You can take it kit and go to your local auto parts place. Then can test it for you there.

    Excellent video. Helped me out this morning when I got in the van and it was dead as a doornail. My son ran the battery down using the built-in vac, and since then the original battery won't hold a charge. I guess almost 8 years isn't bad.

    thanks for this! After decades of driving cars and replacing batteries, that air intake through me for a loop. I've never seen a setup where I had to remove other components to get to the battery! I couldn't even reach the negative terminal to do the jumpstart. Had to connect to positive and then clamp the negative to the frame for ground. Okay, got a battery to replace now so out to the garage I go. Thanks again!

    You did a good job with the video, thanks so much for creating. I acknowledge that you missed showing the reinsertion of the top plastic cover and the metal plate and rods which would have made this video perfect. Thanks! Isn't the internet awesome! I don't have to figure out now, how to take out the air intake.

    Followed everything here and went great. Only difference for me was the air inlet came out with the rubber sleeve in tact on the engine side. Probably not important. For anyone wondering, pressing and holding audio power reset the security code for me. The car prompts you to do it.

  • @lsequeira3139

    Thank you. How did you do the rest? The audio system would likely have been disabled and the navigation system (if your car model had one) would have been disabled too. How did you re-activate them? Was any code required?

    • @clarinet108m
      @clarinet108m 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      L Sequeira the code is usually in the glove box, or you can find it online with some information about your car (I believe the vin number), or you can go to a dealership where they will be able to figure it out for you. We resolved it because the car comes with a little card with the code in the glove box.

    Did you know that the 2016 Honda Odyssey eats batteries in accessory mode. I find out the hard way when the battery died while waiting in the car with the radio and other stuff on. Both AAA and Costco will not sell you any battery for a 2016 Odyssey. They will not warranty ANY battery for a 2016 Odyssey. The dealer only told me about the accessory issue on the 2016 Odyssey after I asked about it. Honda basically lied to me about the short battery life on this my ear model. They said they would prorate the battery, however most retailers do that already. Best to avoid the 2016 Odyssey. I have had both VCM and dead battery issues with this 2016.😡😡😡

    When you disconnect battery terminals.. your Radio will require the theft code to be entered ... Am I correct in saying this ?

    • @1pcfred
      @1pcfred 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's why I'm watching this video. They didn't cover it? I know how to do battery terminals. It is the electronics I am concerned about. I have cauliflower growing on the positive terminal and I need to clean it. But I know if I disconnect it the radio will screw up. I vaguely remember the dealer telling me something about it.

    • @spiculum1836
      @spiculum1836 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@1pcfred Here is a neat trick to get your radio going without the code. It will only work if its the original radio for your car - factory programmed for your VIN. After battery is reconnected, turn ignition on, press radio on bitton for more than 2 seconds to unlock it. No code required :-) . O own a 2015 Odyssey and it worked great. Dealer did not give me the code when I bought the car new.

    • @1pcfred
      @1pcfred 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@spiculum1836 That's what I had to do. What I still can't figure out is who would want to steal one of those radios? Other than in an Odyssey I don't know what anyone could do with it. Personally I think it's just another way dealers can soak money out of customers.

    Disconnect the negative terminal before you do anything else. Car batteries have a lot of current in them so you do not want to short them out. I almost had a stroke when you swung the battery hold down over the positive terminal. If you'd somehow managed to short that to the positive it'd have been fireworks then!
