I looked up that swimming leap thing and apparently there was ledges or bars on ground that you could've used for against current, so game just wasn't clear about that.
withot you even saying that, I thought it must be to do with finding something to grab or use as leverage otherwise what gives you more momentum?
but the devs needed to make it idiot proof....
At the 2 hour 40ish mark when you were struggling to swim and said it was broken, you were supposed to grab the bars on the bottom to get through that section.
That's was lowkey starting to piss me off.
@@star22sally67 I know, but that was the only thing I disliked. However, I don't think the game made it clear to do so. I still loved this video over one guy that played it, dude gave it 5/10 and I disliked his video. Minx's reaction and rating was a 10/10 for me.
Well, you could see even if not super clearly that they were yellow if you just look down and alto this is easier said than done bcs of the tension this game is good at keeping, it really just makes sense. Most seem to figure it out if only they *look down* which most people do since they don't jump to the conclusion that the controls are broken rather than that they're doing something wrong and up and down is your only options here
Or they could just have added the little line 'leap forwards along the bottom' or something, that's also true
Aberdonian here, good to see Aberdeen in a horror game and to hear they used people wi' the accents. A lot of folk used to work on the oil rigs but were reluctant to tell anyone due to a number of reasons including the danger and distance even if the pay was good
The voice acting in this was phenomenal, really well done. The dialogue was humorous at times, which was a nice touch in a horror game, it breaks away from the monsters trying to kill you and the impending doom of dying. I do wonder what the blob blurs on the screen are, I've noticed it only pops up when he's near a monster or those walls of flesh. I wonder if it's a game design for the stress response, or if the thing they dug up is trying to infect him too, or if he's already infected. Pretty horrific how some of these characters died; not only does the character see some of these deaths, but he hears them during the phone calls; like with Bruce, listening to him drown was awful. Also, it's kind of freaky that the monsters still retain some of their humanity in a way, such as speaking to other characters and being able to feel emotion, but unable to control their physical bodies. It's ironic how Rennick's head is huge in monster form, considering his massive ego throughout most of the game. Out of all the monster encounters, Addair was the most horrific and suspenseful, it was definitely giving Alien Isolation vibes big time. The ending was a real tear-jerker. It's upsetting that people couldn't have been saved like Innes, Roy, Brodie Finlay, and our main character Caz.
i also can't wrap my head around bosses screaming on people myself,you don't even talk to your kids like that it's like they're talking to slaves
I still really wanna know what happened between Brodie and Raff (the dude ping ponging around in the diving bell near the beginning).
They could actually do spin off games set in this oil rig. I'd so love to see the moment of contact/corruption and Brodie's adventures.
God damn, that was brilliant. Despite not delving too deep into who these characters are, I still cried like a baby at Roy and at the end. I'm starting to think that maybe horror needs the grief and tragedy to really hit home. And the body horror and general unknown horror of it all was great. Such a great game, I loved it.
13:00 - Neeps and tatties are turnips and potatoes. Typically served mashed, IIRC. Only know it because the main character from a mystery series I read a lot of is Scottish by heritage, and a traditional Scottish meal served in one book was haggis with neeps and tatties.
The worst thing about a situation that precipitated the whole plot is that it's very, very realistic. Dangerous workplaces like oil rigs running on skeleton crews while the structure itself is poorly built and barely maintained because corporate can't be assed to do it properly? Unfortunately common. People often refuse to do the right thing when it comes to ensuring health and safety until something or somebody forces them to do it, either by enacting laws or regulations, or by undermining the system that allowed them to get away with it. There's a very good reason why they say that health and safety laws are written in blood.
I knew because I read a book where they talked about making Cornish pasties 😅

Some of my family have worked on rigs. I always thought of the idea of being on one as a bit scary, never mind with this kind of eldritch horror included.
Edit: Also, there was a massive disaster that is basically this without the monster, a really sad and preventable thing. The rig was called Piper Alpha, if I remember right.
OSHA would have a field day with that oil rig. Definitely not up to code on health and safety

For those who turned it must've been their last thoughts. The one who killed Innes must've thought of Innes in his final moments, he felt betrayed. Rennick's behavior and selfishness carried to his monster form- a head swollen with his ego along with Addair who swelled with pride.
I feel Roy was one of the only 2 likable people in the game next to Finley, i started crying seeing him dead
2:54:00 that door reveal. Wow that was so well timed if that was accidental. if not. that was such a well planned moment
watched this game twice, with different youtubers, and i cried at the ending with Finley both times
This was one of the best playthroughs I've watched on here in a minute. I could genuinely feel the enjoyment Minx was having, even when she was frustrated with some parts. Phenomenal voice acting, and everything really immersed you into a foreboding atmosphere filled with body and cosmic horror.
Dang most realistic protag ever. Actually reacted to the screwed up things he saw and when told to do something sangerous by somebody else, his first responses were hell no instead of blindly following along lol awesome game
there are rare occasions i want to try out a horror game, when i do Minx is one of the people i watch to look for some

This game had really good voice acting, it felt more real and consistent than other games.
this deserves a movie, this kicks every horror movie out in the last 20 focking years, this gets inspiration from everything i love (the thing, dead space, stalker, lovecraft, etc) and it represents cosmic horror in a good way and human nature too, in a fucking good way, 10/10 from me

Minx, you also completely missed/forgot where it said grab throwable objects to distract in the stealth sections. The entire area is littered with objects.
Ah fuck... Roy's death was not a death I was ready for. Diabetic death is what I went through with my father last year. That was way too close to home...

I've always wondered what kind of valves we're closing during puzzles. Like, surely turning off multple-to-dozens of valves wouldn't cause issues elsewhere, right?
Oh almost undoubtedly, your essentially building up pressure in that pipe & it will cause problems there or in other places. But, usually later then like RIGHT Now
I think this is my fave horror game that's come out this year so far. Roy's death hit me hard, though the entire game made me very emotional. I love when a game can make me tear up and/or cry.

Muirs model is extremely terrifying when you get a closer look on it. you cant really do that in game because of the fog and what not, but someone ripped the models out and put Rennick Muir Addair and Trots models to be looked at. its fascinating how they made the models have a core and the limbs/legs are not physical models but particle effects to save performance.

God, Minx not being observant and thinking a section is broken when she just needed to look around a bit, makes it harder to watch sometimes.
Bloody loved this game, really re-enforced my feeling that you can't pay me any amount of money to set foot on an oil rig, even without eldritch monstrosities
