It’s weird that the teams was doing well when Cade not looking great but dishing in the first half and then went down hill in the second half when Cade shooting and driving better. Can’t be mad about this loss. They are a conference final team. We almost had them. Cade is a star. Vets are solid. Duren a monster. We have a chance to win 35-40 games this year. We gon be solid.
Duren is a bad player and was one of the reasons they lost. 35 wins is delusional, and 40 is whatever it's called when something is even more delusional than what that term generally means.
Can we be mad at this loss? Not exactly. Disappointed? Yes. The Pistons need to learn to put teams away when they have a lead and they led most of the game. I think the kind of panicked when the Pacers made a run and that has to stop.
I was at the game with the best seats I've ever had, so I had a great look at everything happening at all times. Couple things stood out. Duren at one point late was given the ball at the 3 point line with NOBODY defending him. He dribbled slowly toward the basket, but with his eyes looking for an open teammate. He got right around the high post area and still no defender in sight. All he was thinking is who can I get the ball to. His unwillingness to shoot that shot scares the heck out of me. The fact that he didn't even look to take it shows what he thinks of his own offensive game. Most players take the shot just to save face from the embarrassment of being so disrespected. Nobody can play 4 on 5 offensively, not at that level. I thought he had that shot in his bag, but apparently he and/or his new coaches do not. The other thing that was obvious is that teams seem to just want to stay close to us until there are 5 minutes left. At that point, it is a game of who REALLY has the best players. Once again, we looked nowhere close to them. Our players missed the open shots more often than not when it counted, and their players made them. Those crunch time shots are what matter in this league, plain and simple. My sports psychology hypothesis is that right at the point of release, some players last thought is a confidence that they will make the shot, and others have the thought that I hope don't miss this shot. We seem to have way less players with that natural confidence than most NBA teams. When that changes, we'll see results.

The Pistons competed in his game and that was good to see. Literally from the opening tip I could tell they were playing a much better brand of basketball than the we playing last year. That being said, a loss is a loss. Almost doesn't count and moral victories mean nothing in the standings of sports. Were there some good things to take from this game? Yes. The Pacers are a powerhouse of a team and the Pistons gave themselves a but came up short. See ya Friday Boys!
Don't overreact, it's not a heartbreaking loss.... It's the first game of a marathon and piston fans should feel good with what they saw... Pistons gone be alright!!
@scottwickett1273 I'm not Juan, but w/him 💯. They lost a tight one in Miami on opening night last year by ONE, won their next two, then lost 28 straight (🤮🤮🤮). Nothing is settled after Game 1. *Nothing* for any team. Things may turn better (my guess) or worse (unlikely to reach last year), it won't be because of *this* game. 🤷♂️
@@michaelnoveck8938 I was at the Hornets game they won in Charlotte! And look how that turned out. This is a 60-loss team, or close to it. They just don't have much of anything.
@scottwickett1273 They could finish w/like 20ish wins to 35. Last year's squad had a way more impressive first game, obviously meaningless. An entire season is not written in the first game, especially w/cap space & an open roster spot. That's why they play the actual games. 🤷♂️
@@michaelnoveck8938 Yes but at the same time this is the most predictable major sport: they won't get to 35 because they have a garbage roster compared to like 25 of the other 29 teams.
I was at the game, they looked so much better for most of the game. But that 4th quarter felt like typical Pistons. Overall, they looked pretty good and deserved a win and that’s what made it extra heartbreaking.
Gotta get a stop. Sure. You also gotta score. They wouldn’t have needed all the stops if they didn’t shoot like 25% in the fourth quarter. You have to score when it matters. Pistons missed a ton of big shots in the 4th.
theyre still a bad team, if they win about half of the games "they should have won" this season will be a LOT better then last year because it felt like 90% of the games they should have won they ended up losing, so just some improvement on that stat would be excellent
Pacers are known for lightning quick offense (fastest in the league). Ku is right about Pistons defense wilting in the 2nd half. Even though Pistons were ahead, the multiple triples from Turner (with a late and slow close out from Duren) and then the multiple times McConnell beat his guy on drives to the basket showed where this game was heading even before the 4th quarter collapse. We heard a lot about guys working over the summer. Apparently not hard enough on basic conditioning. The Pacers just ran faster as the game progressed. The Pistons, with the exception of Tobias, who always takes care of his conditioning, looked gassed.
So we go from the off season where everyone thought Ivey should be traded, to Ivey’s 17/5/4 game was just ok. I don’t understand how people expect so much out of a player that they were ready to kick to curb. He’s a solid 3rd option on offense and an almost even defender now. That’s good development. Tobias was supposed be that second option and he didn’t show up in the second half and went 0/3 in the the fourth. And although Cade had a good game, he’s a max player that’s the leader of the team that went 1/6 in the 4th during winning time. Our top two options were no shows and went 1/9 when it counted. Won’t win us many games, but I’m encouraged by the development. We need a second option still.
Ivey is the second option. Improved defense is the key to Ivey being a good starter or a backup. Tobias is just a capable veteran leader. Ideally he would be the fourth option on offense, but third option is still something he can provide. The Pacers are just to good to beat, unless they have a bad game, and the Pistons play almost perfect. Having a near perfect first half was nice to see, but not good enough against a top team in the East.
@@pheralanpathfinder4897 yea I don’t think Ivey’s there yet. Not really sure why you expect him to be the second option and then say he’s a backup. Hes a little too raw to be counted on as your second option, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Expecting too much out of players has been the Pistons problem for so many years. Like Stew, he’s a back up big, why is so much put on him? He’s not even a starter lol. Ivey has more potential than Tobias but right now, but we paid Tobias to be that 2nd option in the 4th qtr, he’s gotta show up if we expect to win. I’m a Ivey fan, I just think he gets out of control when he tries to do too much. He needs to play within him self and a be solid 3rd option and when Cades not in the game force it a bit more.
1st Listen...what up Ku. The team looked better than a year ago but I seen the same problem. They don't know how to finish. They don't know how to win the game. 4th qt collapse was a problem last season and right out the gate they're doing it again. Bring on Cleveland and let's get this corrected. Stay up Ku. One!!
I would like to think that Ausar would have prevented TJ Mcconnel from going hog wild in the 3rd/start of the 4th. Also I feel like those 2 techs for the 6th guy on the floor, and Ron jumping on the court, deflated the piston's momentum as well.
Pistons lost at the end because they could hot secure rebounds, and make open shots. We need a defensive big that rebounds. Stew could grab a rebound at the end to save his life. Stew had a good game just can not rebound good. It has to be some big 6'11-7'0 in the G LEAGUE that plays defense and rebound great that we can sign.
I still can't believe they gave us 1 of THE HARDER SCHEDULES to a team THAT WON 14 GAMES. It's almost like the powers that be don't want us to ever be good.
Tobby the reason why we lost last night no cap. He not aggressive, he stand around and let Cade do everything. Just because Cade cooking don’t mean you ain’t gotta make the Kool-Aid!
@bridgelion4968 I agree. But missing good open shots is not the same as not being aggressive. Just watch how he took it to Siakam and then tell me how he wasn't being aggressive.
@@jonathanpicket124 he was in the beginning I was like damn. But can he be consistent throughout a game. He could literally had 30 Cade took a back seat for a reason to see who gonna step up
Why didn't they try putting Paul Reed in ,he may have have made more of a impact. In that 4th quarter he may have got some rebounds and hit few key shots. He's too good just to have sit on the bench. SMH
Playing Reed instead of Duren is a tough sell. Duren shows enough potential that fans and the Pistons organization want to give him a chance to succeed.
I been saying since the summer that this is only a 21 win season with all the offseason moves this team still has a long way to go even with the improvement of Cade he’s still not a super star he’s a good player indeed but if you relying on him to lead a team to the playoffs he’s just not that type of player he need a lot more help Duren is trash , should be a backup big , Tobias can’t defend and isn’t consistent on offense , hardaway is a good pickup , beef stew is just pure garbage , and Ivey need the ball more to open up his game
Ivey still seems to be a rhythm type player. Get him going early and he is usually in for a good game, like preseason. This game he got into foul trouble and had to sit early and never got back on track when he got back in the game. We do need him to play aggressive defense, but can’t have him fouling so much he has to sit
Duren is one of the worst pick and roll defenders I’ve ever seen. He has to get better for us to have a chance. Gotta run more plays for Tobias. He didn’t get enough shot attempts. But the pistons look way better.

The turning point of the game was the technical foul with too many guys on the floor... Both teams were stale mate to that point and the siakim basket.
Observations: Cade had a good quarter Stewart was just horrific all around Why did Stew play 8 minutes in the 4th? Tobias was a ghost in the second half and outplayed grossly by Siakam We need better defense on the perimeter as usual. Cant get off picks, leaving our bigs guarding 2 guys on an island and having to make a choice. Bad team defense.
Ivey does better when he shoots more, especially with 3 pointers, so why is he shooting 2 of them in a game. In the pre-season there was 3 games ivey went 0-2 with 3's and he still ended with 52 percent, Ivey needs to take more 3 pointers than 2 to succeed. Cade went cold in the fourth took 6 shots, 2 points. Ivey shot 4 times and scored 4 points. The offense got stagnant because we didn't even try to funnel the ball to Ivey. Maybe he would've woken up in the fourth but everyone tried to play hero ball in the end
Ivey strengths isn't from the perimeter. Ivey going downhill via diverse playmaking is when he's at his best. His indecisiveness struck again which is why he shot 38% from the field while only taking 2 perimeter shots. Ivey could have easily had 25+ tonight on 50%+ had he utilized his strengths to its potential.
@@philosoqhy Very few players average 25 ppg. I'm a big believe in Ivey's potential, but that isn't a reasonable expectation for a year three player. You are right about Ivey scoring inside to get going. Those preseason threes were nice, but he is still a work in progress from distance.

Ivey got away from what was working for him and tried to play like Mathurin with jumpshots. Ivey needed to pressure the paint because they couldn't stop him. We lacked go-to scoring otherwise. It's not the lack of one elite player. Its a lack of overall win now skill. The Pistons are full of young potential. But still a few years away from those young guys being playoff quality.

Gotta bounce back!
Don't overreact, it's not a heartbreaking loss.... It's the first game of a marathon and piston fans should feel good with what they saw... Pistons gone be alright!!
I have no idea why you think this.

Completely agree
The offense wilted in the second half too. You gotta score when it matters. They didn’t
Guys needed to hit open threes in the fourth and thhey couldn’t do that
Ivey is the second option.
If the G has a better center than Duren the Pistons aren't the only team who should sign him.

Why the Stew hate?
Stew is a good defender, and efficient three point shooter. Just because he isn't a star doesn't mean he is garbage.
Haliburton stunk tonight...but having McConnell is why Indy is so good! CONSTANT PRESSURe...can't relax!
Ivey still seems to be a rhythm type player. Get him going early and he is usually in for a good game, like preseason. This game he got into foul trouble and had to sit early and never got back on track when he got back in the game. We do need him to play aggressive defense, but can’t have him fouling so much he has to sit
Oh goodness, a start of another losing streak.
Duren is one of the worst pick and roll defenders I’ve ever seen. He has to get better for us to have a chance. Gotta run more plays for Tobias. He didn’t get enough shot attempts. But the pistons look way better.

Was a tough moment
Observations:
Cade had a good quarter
Stewart was just horrific all around
Why did Stew play 8 minutes in the 4th?
Tobias was a ghost in the second half and outplayed grossly by Siakam
We need better defense on the perimeter as usual.
@@philosoqhy But he didn't, and if he's gonna shoot 38% and only attempt two treys he shouldn't even be out there, because it's not like he gives them anything else.
@@pheralanpathfinder4897 My expectations isn't for Ivey to avg 25 this year. I do see him at 20&5 tho. My reference was strictly about last night game.
