      Yeah. I'm a poor guy (which no shame, i'm willing to admit. 20 years old, still getting life sorted out) and walking everywhere SUCKS. I have a hard time finding work that i can stay at cause all the places are like 5 to 8 miles away (which as you can probably guess, takes a long time to walk. and Taxis are pricey when you're budgeting.)
      Have a license, living with father ATM, and he's got me helping at his store because of the COVID outbreak, so I'm going to be saving the money I get from helping there to get a scooter so I can actually make trips to a future job, to the grocery store, to go meet friends, and also to get to college once i start that.
      Figured I'd get a scooter instead of a used car because of pricing (and in my state, 49cc or under doesn't require a special license.)

    You don't turn by moving the handle bars the safest way to turn is getting comfortable leaning the bike. If you try to steer using the bars at 30+ mph you can very easily crash.

      +David Spinnanger How do you propose the lean be induced?

    • @Tony-ml5bs
      @Tony-ml5bs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      It's not like leaning so far that you are scraping the floor, But I was testing this out a few days after I saw this comment. And I kept my bike perfectly straight, And when I turned the handle I felt as if I was going to tip over.Frater Mus

    • @fratermus5502
      @fratermus5502 8 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      The bike *is* tipping/leaning when you apply pressure to one grip. That's how it turns once you are underway. Note that we are not talking about wrestling the bar, just applying pressure.
      The reason this is harder to learn on a scooter is there is no tank to grab with the knees to keep yourself centered, "one" with the bike.
      The body does not move, does not lean on its own. The body stays in a line; visualize it like this -- the cornering forces come down through the top of the rider's head, down the spine, the butt, through the middle of the seat seat, down the center of the bike to the tires. There are exceptions at the extremes of speed (knee-dragging and very tight slow-speed work) but in general if your body is moving around the rider/bike system is out of whack and the rider has less control. That is Bad.
      The good news is that anyone who can go around a corner without crashing is *already* countersteering. The next step is to understand you are doing it so next time you overcook a corner you remain centered, keep the throttle neutral, and PUSH that inside grip. This will lean the bike over for a tighter radius. With any luck you and I live to clean out our shorts and ride another day.
      I highly recommend Hough's Proficient Motorcycling for folks who want to get the most out of their road bike/scooter.

To me it was like riding a bike without peddling, so I came across it easily. I am a little nervous as am 61 years old and thought about getting one for a long time. I wanted to see something basic for a beginner. I particularly liked advice re going slow and also feet close to ground until more relaxed and confident. I just wanted something that I could use to get around more easily and low costs to run. I have seen some vespas that are so cute and although expensive may possibly get one of those. I was also looking at a Peugeot Kisbee. Your little beginners video helped a lot so thanks :)

    Riding the scooter is almost as easy as riding a bicycle, with the only difference that you have to be more gentle with scooter. Scooter is faster and heavier, therefore it's harder to steer. It may cause problems, when you are going too slow on the scooter and you lose balance, or if you are unsure about what speed should you have while taking a corner/curve.

    • @YouriHL
      @YouriHL 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nitu_S.C. Yes, it is. You need either a scooter drivers license (which costs around 500 euro) or a car drivers license (which is very expensive these days). When you have a scooter drivers license, it depends wheter you can drive a 25 km/h (snorscooter) or a 45 km/h scooter (bromscooter). If you have a full drivers license, you can drive a snor- and bromscooter. Same goes for a motorcycle license. BUT: there is a catch here. If you, for some reason, are from outside the European Union, then you have to inform at the RDW (or CBR) what you can or cannot drive here. Best thing to do is to contact the ambassy of your country here in the Netherlands.
      From what I know, is that people from Russia, China and Japan are not allowed to drive a snor- and bromscooter in the Netherlands, while people from Australia, New Zealand and Canada can. I'm unsure about those from the USA.

    This video was the best among those which I watched to learn how to ride a scooter for the first time.The only question I am having is that is it hard to turn the scooter?

    wow I learned a lot from this video. great video as my husband (he raced pro motocross for Yamaha back in the 80s) wants me to learn how to ride a scooter I got for my birthday, it's been sitting for 3 months and I'm so scared to try it. Sometimes I go out and start it up than I chicken out. LOL, This really is a great video Thanks Ride Metch. Liked and 441 people that disliked this video? I think he did a dam good job.

    This really did help me. Im still a little nervous on the roads but I'm getting there. Also you don't steer the handlebars, you got to lean with the bike otherwise you're most likely crash or loose control of the bike 🙂

    Thank you for the video! Please tell me. Which break is the front, which is rear?

  • @davidoman90
    @davidoman90 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also front brake is 80% of your stopping power so when roads and wet to avoid slipping out it is good to use the rear brake very lightly
