I'm thinking that I may need to ask your dad, but meanwhile, did you have that side board custom made, or purchase it online? I have two vintage PK grills I purchase between 1983 and 2000 in Austin, but in storage out of town currently. They wound up there per divorce. I recall that when I bought each of them (on separate occasions/separate locations) neither one had the side shelf present. The thing is, now, I only hope no other parts are missing. When I get them in my possession (as luck would have it i learned they were kept and stored for me, just after quarantine kicked in (they're in Louisiana, and I'm in Texarkana) so I am glad I'll be able to go retrieve them, but apprehensive re condition. Currently, I do have a Duchess Cooker grill......I"m wondering if you knew that the PK's have a sort of "matriarch"? She was the precursor/forerunner to the PKs and some folks call her a "sputnik" grill. She's more not oval liked the eggs, however she is round, and umm, sort of conical, ,top-wise. It seems like the current PK grill makers have ==no== interest whatsoever in making replacement parts for her, and that's a shame, because she does still exist, out and about....AND she is part of the heritage, part of the PK grill story, whether they acknowledge her or not. .I bought mine at a carport sale for $14usd, btw. If you do Facebook, you might want to consider joining the PK Fanatics FB group, it can be helpful in numerous ways.....cooking tips, the hunt for parts for vintage grills etc. I'm terrifically excited at the thought of having all three of my grills here at my mid century modest circa 1961 house, because they will finally be "home".

Wow! Comment of the year goes to you! Thank you for the history lesson that’s super cool! My dad made the side shelf and I like it a lot better than the metal ones that come with it. I also have a FB group(MadHorseBBQ) so find me on there and message me. I’d love to hear more about that duchess grill you’re talking about! 🍻

That is really interesting. I hope you got your PK's back. Good news is there isn't much on them to rust . Mine is newer so things may have changed but I don't think any of the materials will rust. I still keep it covered.

I didn't realize you had a PK. Thanks for sharing the video. The thighs looked great. I make them probably three times a month. I really like both of Malcom's rubs you used here and they're always in the pantry but the Sucklebuster's chicken and Tailgater's you had on another video are what I use.

Thanks. And no it doesn’t. The PK GO is smaller. It’s meant to be more of a portable grill.

Hey Brian I just finished watching Tom's video. In my opinion you got the best end of that exchange. The Weber is a pretty grill though. Nice job on those thighs.

Good looking chicken Brian! I even take my thighs to 200 IT and they just get more tender and juicy. Hard to overcook that dark meat especially indirect like that. I need to try this same method with the 2 KH rubs! Cheers!
