    Not many Australians have been to Tasmania so their views are based on ignorance. Its many years since I visited on the Princess Of Tasmania [ 1970 ] so would welcome more videos of the island which must have changed a lot. Thanks.

    We live on the north west coast of Tassie in sight of the Bass Strait on a hill. Frost doesn't settle here so we are able to grow broadbeans, brassicas, carrots and parsnips if planted in autumn and greens and peas in winter. No issue! We have to worry about wind more than anything :)

    • @homesteading
      @homesteading  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, that was before we had a channel! It originally was built with a corrugated iron roof. I then added some timber around to hold about 150mm of material, and covered the timber and iron with plastic. (It needs to be able to drain still.) I filled this with fine pinebark (not soil) and a little compost on top. Originally planted this with Daffodil bulbs only....everything else has found it's own way there!

    • @jessjames93
      @jessjames93 ปีที่แล้ว

    What's the government/councils like in Tassie? In terms of buying land and building a tiny house or small home? That's what I'm saving for. Currently living in Melbourne but saving to get out of here ASAP. I don't want to owe any money to banks to it's a bit of a slow process. But, there's some beautiful land for sale in Tassie. It's super confusing knowing if I'd be allowed to build something small or have a non permanent dwelling on the property. They make it hard for a reason I guess, trying to keep us all in the rat race.

    • @homesteading
      @homesteading  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haven't navigated that path myself so can't give a definitive answer. But I don't think a small house would be a big problem. As to relocatable tiny houses, maybe this (www.cbos.tas.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0014/414113/Fact-Sheet-Tiny-Houses.pdf) maybe helpful - if you haven't already seen it. There is of course some variation of attitude from individual councils. But generally they are helpful...one would hope!

      Harvest when ripe - pumpkins usually have some drying of stalk (not the whole vine, just the actual pumpkins stalk). Corn will show darkening of silk - open it a little and check to be sure.
