    I received my 80v mower on Friday as well, mine is the 42". Only mine came just like they come from the factory on its metal palette with support bars and plastic, all which had to be removed. (I would attach a photo if I could.) And, of course nothing was assembled. After removing the plastic, unbolting all the support bars, and cutting all the various zip ties, I had to install the seat, the joystick, connect all the batteries, check the tire pressure, etc., etc. I actually preferred it that way. I had read the operator's manual and the assembly manual multiple times (the PDF versions), and still followed the instructions every step of the way. (And I am very 'handy'...) You might have done well to have done the same, as I saw you did several things different than the way they said to do them. ONE example was with the charger. They strongly recommend against using an extension cord, and they say to always connect the charger to the mower before connecting it to power. I could be wrong, but I believe you also plugged it in before removing the foam from the 40v batteries. I'm only pointing this out because people might watch your video, thinking that everything you did and said was correct. Your enthusiasm showed, and that's great, but you maybe should have taken the time to read the manuals before hand as well. Enjoy!

      Wayne, thanks for your reply. I agree assembling myself would add a little more reassurance to knowing it is done right. I imagine there won't be many more of these hitting the store assembled as they will continue to be back-ordered. Yes, the foam was removed :) Regarding the extension cord, I never considered this as most chargers would experience minimal current loss, if any, that would be experienced but with a charger/batteries such as these you are right, this may prevent the batteries from getting the full charge over the 4-5hr charge time (may be worth an experiment to inform others!). I could only find where it said to not use adaptors or 2 prong plugs tho. Unfortunately, my outlet locations can't reach the mower's location, resolving soon tho! Regarding connecting to the mower charge port BEFORE the outlet... I'd like to know the why? When you drive an electric car up to a charger you just plug right in. Same concept, no? Now, about the manual. 80v Battery manual states "to obtain the longest possible battery life we suggest removing the battery pack from the charger once it is fully charged and ready for use." This is normal practice with rechargeable batteries. BUT.... Ryobi Manual then states "NOTICE: If it is not possible to leave the mower charger connected, make sure to charge the batteries fully at least once a month". Here is the fault in the manuals. They are written by people. Great tips/points you bring up though Wayne; people read the damn manual!

      @@LifeAsDane I’m not sure about why they say to plug it in to the mower first, but that same order was really stressed in instructions about charging electric bike batteries. (Battery then power…) And yes, Ryobi has made some conflicting statements about these! As well as a many ‘non-answers’ to questions that I and others asked. That statement about leaving it plugged in to the charger may be an accidental hold over from the manual for their mowers with the lead acid batteries! By the way, I don’t believe the Home Depot that I bought mine from has sold any of the other four that they received! (Based on what it says online, which reflected my purchase immediately.) But I also didn’t see any displayed when I was there on Saturday…

      @@LifeAsDane You've seen a spark before when you plugged something in, well same thing here except more of a load with these battery's and charger, so it's best plug the charger in last to keep from burring up connector on the mower with the load.

    Bro... love the video and the comments. All well noted. At my local Home Depot they have the 54" on sale for $3500. I HAVE NO CLUE WHY! I was only interested because they had it marked $6999 reduced $3499 to an actual cost of $3500. So I immediately came home to watch the reviews. I was assuming I would see tons of reviews bashing this product. Can you think of a reason why they would have it marked down like this. They also had the 42" and the 30" marked down half price but it is not like that on the website. Any comments would be great.

      Wow.. I saw them the other day at my Local HD for $5,000 and it's best price i've seen. That's a crazy good deal for the 54"... I don't work for Ryobi but I don't know how anyone shopping for a zeroturn could pass that up $3,500 if they had remotely considered it.

      @@LifeAsDane I was thinking of buy a few of them and re-selling them LOL! I was there late last night so Ryobi rep was not there... going back today and I will let you know. I still think they had something marked wrong. But it was right buy the front door, plain as day on a huge in-store created display with all three mowers at 50% off.... CRAZY!

      @@LifeAsDane And I really wasn't shopping for one. The price alone interested me. The economy is trash right now even here in Texas and Florida I assume. Luxury items are sitting on the self.

    We are looking at this for me. Is it a good girl mower and any color like pink?

    • @LifeAsDane
      @LifeAsDane  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Define “good girl mower”. I’d say yes just because who wants to smell like gasoline 😉. Regarding the colors you’d have to just do a custom paint job. Would be pretty easy as the sun is the only wear and tear besides some water the outside will ever get so painting the plastic should hold up.

      @Great Dane easy to use! Just kidding on the colors, I’m fine with yellow. Right now the other mowers are either finicky or manually hard to use.

    I’m not great at electrical stuff but could they make this act as a battery back up for like a fridge if the power goes out?
    I know you can buy portable batteries for keeping the fridge/freezer cool in the event of a power outage. Would be cool if this could act as a small battery backup if power goes out

    • @LifeAsDane
      @LifeAsDane  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris I love that idea. That's what the new F150 Lightning (electric) can do if you get their best model. Seems the battery pack would have to go to some converter and be tied in to your panel. But even just having a 120v outlet on the mower seems like a good idea now that you mention it. You could have portable power to anywhere in your yard...

      Not on its own, but Ryobi do make an 1800w inverter that accepts the 40v batteries. It can take up to 4.

    Is it easy to mow on a hill?

    • @LifeAsDane
      @LifeAsDane  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      South Florida doesn’t have hills, we have drainage ditches 😂 and I’ve yet to mess with mine as the county mows it and The manual states to go up and down on hills not sideways. There isn’t enough clearance to go that direction on my “hills”.

    I just got mine a couple of weeks ago, and had to unpack it fully from the metal palette. I received two of them actually, because the first one was delivered smashed up! I was shocked that they still delivered it, but Home Depot sorted it out quickly and took it back and delivered a better looking one! It was helpful to see your video first before it arrived, so I knew exactly what to do when I got it - saved me some time. Here it is : th-cam.com/video/yoT4IHbhJMM/w-d-xo.html

    No faith in Ryobi batteries they have a high failure rate batteries will exceed the purchase price, have had 3 40v batteries fail one a year not good odds & have one on the way can only get it half charged, let us know when the honeymoon period is over. I believe in electrification own a Tesla this is not of that quality, also we get lots of rain in FL wonder what the limitations are with this mower? With gas u fill up & mow when you want with a EV mower you need to plan your mow not to mention if you change it up and it rains for a few days like it often does here in Florida the mower can’t sit at 100% charge state for long periods of time, would risk damaging the batteries like any lithium product.

    • @LifeAsDane
      @LifeAsDane  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I've had good use out of my 18v batteries. Newer to the 40v's so we'll see how they hold up. Regarding the rain. Not sure who wants to mow in the rain but to each their own. I'm definetely putting the mower through the ringer of mows averaging 1 a week on about 1.6ac. And please checkout my upcoming video! One of 80v's ended up being a dud. Ryobi sent someone to my house with a new battery. So that was a positive but the fact it was bad after a mow or two was a bit concerning. Seems they got a good team behind this product tho as I've personally received multiple calls now from their product lead on the riding mowers.
