The time jump at the beginning of Howling Dark is definitely jarring but it is intentional and worth it in the end, hang in there! Durfee's trilogy has some very dark moments but the plot is really well set up and book 3 has some amazing action and payoffs.
I love and 100% stand by the mindset you have here regarding DNF’s. I want to give the author and story the most respect, credit, time, and attention it deserves and just because I might not be in the right mindset to read it does not mean I won’t at another time down the road potentially! Love your mindset about reading and fully respect all your ideas🙏
I HIGHLY recommend continuing w Sun Eater when you can. Book twos opening was probably the roughest part of the series for me but the rest of the book is fantastic. Book four and six are my personal favorites and the themes that Ruocchio explores are really profound. And if you’re a person of faith……there’s a LOT in the later half of the series that will be meaningful to you.
I get this feedback in various ways so much 😂 I’ve definitely learned a lot of lessons from this book, namely that ruining fairytales is fun as a writer, but just confusing for readers lol. The romantasy readers get a quarter in and say “oh, this is not what I thought” and the dark fantasy readers don’t get a quarter in cause it does 100% seem like it’ll be romantasy 🥴
15:19 I haven’t read it but from what I’ve heard (so take this with a grain of salt) if you are looking for the classic “Protagonist saves the Day” kind of story then probably don’t continue with Books of Babel. It seems to be more of deconstruction of that rather than a representation of it…
I also DNF the Suneater series. The first book has major flaws but was enjoyable. The next book was more of the same and it just didn’t make me want to continue. I’m curious why it’s so popular.
I totally understand finding AsOiAf too dark. It will continue to get bleaker and more unrelenting as it goes, but it is easily one of the most well written fantasy series soooo 🤷🏻♂️
I really enjoyed the Durfee books. The foul language increases with books 2 & 3, but I thought the books were great. I’m going to re-read. On the Babel books, I liked book 1 a lot (it is different), but 2&3 were a big miss for me. I never read book 4 with no intent to ever finish.

@@iSamwise I definitely plan to continue Sun Eater. I’ve heard that about this series and faith being explored. I look forward to it!

@@LyonsPen there’s a scene where Grim confirms that Axly is who she says she is with the shoe. I actually really liked that! 😂

Where is The Dragon’s Tooth by N. D. Wilson? Why do you hate your friends? DNF must mean, Detest Nice Friends.
@@justryan5 I haven’t decided if I want to continue. 😂
