I think RemNote is an awesome project, but I would like an option that allowed you to revise a certain document in the order you wrote it, because for me its a bit messy to revise my flashcards in a random order. It would be better to understand some contents of my studies if I could choose the order to revise the flashcards. Great app!!👍🏻👍🏻

I think that you're using flashcards 'wrongly'.
My tip for you: flashcards is better used for RETAINING, not for LEARNING from scratch.
If you already studied some concept, it won't matter the order of reviewing. If the order of reviewing are an issue, so you're using flashcards wrongly, you're trying to LEARN with the flashcards.
So, for learning, you see the lecture, read the book and make a little abstract/summary.
Then, after you understanding the concepts you've studied, you create some flashcards to help you to RETAIN the information in long-term.
So, the act of reviewing an flashcards is to you make sure you know the information and you are retaining it. So, in this case, it doesn't matter the order you are reviewing them.
Another tip: Create a mind map which shows exactly where this flashcard is in the big-picture. It's like an MAP.
      The flashcard are a house
And the mindmap are the MAP of the streets showing where is this specific house.

    • @NathanaelFarley
      @NathanaelFarley 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I'd love a discussion for better flashcards. My main reasons for using Anki over other systems is: Open Source (so even if the developer stops working on it/company goes bust I don't lose my cards); good mobile apps (most of my reviews are away from the computer)
I'm a programmer by trade and play a lot of RPGs, both of which require large amounts of memorisation. If I could memorize that stuff in a more connected way, I would be very interested!
(At the moment I work hard to make sure my Anki cards will trigger a memory in the right place at the right time, but if Remnote could do that faster, that'd be awesome)

He said free but not open source. A lot of you might not know this, so let me explain. Open source means they own the cards, so unlike Anki where you own the cards, this will take down your cards and lock you out if your decks if they feel like it, if they get out of business, or if the app/website crashes. Then you’ll lose all your cards. Anki never does that, so choose wisely. You’re welcome, dummies.

You just showed why this transition is not a good idea. After you import 40k cards, some of them flagged, some suspended or marked, you lose all that. Moreover, after the import you are left with a huge mess: big images that stand out from the text, no organisation of the cards aside from subdecks. I see no benefit for moving from Anki to RemNote.

IMO the transition is a good idea if you desire to have other features not included on Anki. I've been using Anki since 2015 (930+ days streak, yes I have missed days before this streak) and now I'm moving to Remnote. I still use both because of the scheduling of cards from Anki isn't available yet when importing but I have been adding cards only to Remnote. I was really skeptical about leaving Anki at first (I have tried 3 times) but those benefits that I'm getting is what I want. The daily document is awesome. The workflow on Remnote allows us to add cards fast in a organized way and the "big picture" thing is really beneficial to memory consolidation

As far as I'm concerned, there is just so much features, some of which that don't apply to me. The things that matter to me are notes and flashcards. Thus, I absolutely think that making notes + flashcards in the EXACT same app, in other words my notes are also my flashcards, is really life-changing. I use RemNote just for flash cards I have all my notes through another app with pen support. RemNote is much cleaner and does the same thing as anki. So I basically use it the same way as I used anki and use my notes on my other app for deep study and learning

I gave it a try, but there were a few things that I did not like.
Maybe I just didn't look that deep into it and these features already exist.
So it would be cool if you could change the order new cards appear and it would be extremely useful if you could review a whole material or lecture note as one cloze card. That would be esential for subjects where chronological order matters.
It is a great idea, I just think it needs more features to be on par with Anki.

Anki is so much better and easier to use. I get that spaced repetition and active recall are important, but RemNote for android is so much of a joke of an app it's more of an inconvenience than a help. Hate the fact that this has been promoted in your channel time and time again only to have such a negative experience using it. Lost a week for studying trying to figure out and make it work. Never happened with Anki.

RemNote errors are done to death. Sync problems, sudden refresh requirement and forget the content that I've already pass and place another ~200 rems to repeat, sudden lose of left menu or contents area, endless spins... I seriously consider to return back Anki again.

Remnote not available on iPadOS ...hope it’ll be available for long time like 10 years minimum , coz Anki promise to do that, Anki developer said if anything happens to him then Anki will go open source and yes no additional charge even after you get huge downloaders ,coz people tends to change from free to subscription once they r popular , one time payment is good but not subscription policy , if remnote fits into this criteria , then yes it’s competitor to Anki .

Isn’t it better to make 10 cards and just have 5-10 sentences at the back of the card?

I've recently seen a lot of people praising Anki competitors/alternatives like Remnote.
I would like to warn all Anki users from the bottom of my heart about these alternatives.
A lot of these alternatives/competitors might be free of charge, but they are NOT *OPEN SOURCE*.
A lot of people do not know the difference between free of charge and free of charge AND *OPEN SOURCE*.
Free of charge but not open source means that the software doesn't cost you money upfront to use.
BUT the software and by extension the cards YOU make using the software are NOT FREE, in the sense that you don't have the FREEDOM to do whatever the hell you want to do with the software and the cards YOU made. Basically, you don't really own the cards you made on these non open-source software.
In theory, the software owners can do whatever the hell they want with your cards. They can lock you out of cards that YOU created. They can force you to pay a high fee down the road to access cards YOU created. On of all that, they might not allow you to migrate to an alternative software/platform.
On the contrary, Anki is free of charge AND *OPEN SOURCE*. Which means you fully own Anki and the cards you make on Anki.

Price and reliability, Anki is free with a robust population of resources out there that are well established.

    • @AliBaba-vw7mo
      @AliBaba-vw7mo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly...
2:30, free, but NOT open source, which is an important point. Hear me out... In Anki, all the code is open source. All the cards are 100% yours. The platform is 100% yours. On Remnote however... the ownership of the software and by extension cards are not 100% yours. What happens to your cards after your subscription abruptly ends? Do the fruits of all your blood sweat and tears disappear? What's stopping them from doing whatever they want with your cards? What's stopping them from disappearing into the wilderness? Of course your choice is yours, but I'm very opposed to any *closed source* project cuz I want total control and ownership of the software

It like it does not know English or something. Also the flashcards only allow you to answer in one direction and not flip them around, which is the most basic feature any study website should have
