At the premier, Layne said the arrangement for this came very quickly - 5-6 hours. And, even though they aren’t entirely moved in yet, this was filmed in the new Pattycake Studios location. (Guess those 15’ ceilings are gonna come in handy!)
The levitating moment happened to more than one person in the show and it was quite gruesome! So thankful that Ashley escaped the usual outcome! Love Stranger Things, I think you would appreciate it once you make it through the first couple of episodes. The teen characters grow on you. The Duffer Brothers that wrote the show love to incorporate music from the time frame the setting of their shows come from! They really have great music in them! Thank you for your reaction, Qofy!
In my 32 years of life, I've seen thousands of movies and television shows. Stranger Things is the best show I've ever seen and I know some good ones, but this one I don't have any words for. Definitely need to watch.
Love the look on your face when Ashley levitated. I had to get a younger friend to explain the levitation as I've never seen stranger things... . From the scene she showed me was a bit scarey... But at least I understand it now
I'm super glad you have reacted to this video. I love how they incorperate the 80's vibe so well. I'm also very happy you have begun to make your own music too. I cant wait to hear what you do in the future.
I can never say enough good about VoicePlay and I just loved taking a walk down memory lane with this 80's pop. I really have to give kudos to whomever mixed the audio on this. That pop/synth/club sound was amazing!
I think that overtone-ish bit was similar to the one used in My Mother Told Me. I had never heard the song, never saw the show, but it doesn't matter. It's Voiceplay and it's terrific!!
Yes! That's it! Been bugging me. Thought it was similar to what Geoff did in Kidnap the Sandy Claws (which he said is subharmonics, just higher than he usually does) but it's more like the human gjallerhorn bit that he does in My Mother Told Me. And same here ... never seen the show, don't recall hearing the song before. Don't need to, this is still a great video.
There’s a small thing that’s happened other times as well, that bugs me. I know why they do it-they sit the tallest guys, Geoff and Layne, up front, and Eli has to stand over to one side so he isn’t completely covered by them. But it feels like he’s out of the frame too much. They have camera angles that capture Geoff, Ashley, Layne and Cesar, but then they have to pan over to get Eli, and often he’s either alone in the frame or at least more isolated. Not sure whether it’s intentional (and if so, why?). That synth sound-Layne makes a lot of noises that sound “assisted” by either a mic effect or synth-he must walk around his house making all kinds of funny sounds just to get them down for the songs.
As always, your reactions to Voice Play are awesome. Thank you for your great reactions. I love how Geoff & Layne play off of each other in this one more so than any other video they have done. Ashley, Eli & Cesar sing beautifully together. Layne's voice is so smooth, soft & blends so well with the others. I wish he would sing more. I love his voice.
This is such a great cover! Glad you're checking it out. Have a suggestion for you: I know you've checked out some bass battles in the past, but there's one out now for 2022: th-cam.com/video/8aWndqr4C6A/w-d-xo.html Always fun to see some of the modern bass greats doing what they do best!
Straight from Stranger Things. This whole thing was gorgeous. I started with VoicePlay followed by everyone who has reacted to it so far. I swear I could listen and watch it all day.
Dude, you need to see The Charismatic Voice's interview with Layne. it's criminal that you cannot distinguish his voice :D he sang the lead part when you asked "I wonder which part he's singing"! how could you not notice that? he sings too rarely and his voice is so soft and mellow and unlike his general appearance that most people are surprised when they hear him at first.
1. i've never even really heard of Stranger Things (i have a mental picture of a red figure with the words - makes me think of Sandman comics), but i do know the *song* - and they killed it. 2. Geoff first did overtones in Kidnap the Sandy Claws, i think. 3. At the end Geoff started in sub, then melded into overtone. ps - LOVE your arrangement of Light in the Hallway!
The techniques for subharmonics, overtones and throat singing are all fairly similar. They all require different work and practicing but I think that's what Geoff is doing in the beginning and end. He's using, and maybe combining, some of those techniques to get the sound he wants. I don't think that's actually altered in production. I could be wrong, of course, but that's what it sounds like to me; a combination of those techniques
Very sure there are electronic effects, probably a LOT of reverb, on Geoff’s bass to get the “overtones”. They were definitely trying to capture the 80’s synthesized sound. Also a full section of Layne singing lead!!
This cover if so badly auto tune. Stripping the essence out of the original track and the artistry behind it. It sounds like a badly produced Disney theme park gone wrong. I hate the auto tune in this. This is a horrible cover. Why don't you watch and react to the original track and music video. This horrible cover is nothing in comparison to the original.
I don't understand why everyone's reacting to this particular cover. It's such an odd interpretation of the song. Completely devoid of any feeling or love for the song.
You are completely wrong on all counts. Voice Plays cover songs are always on point, never out of tune & better than the originals. You need to get your hearing checked !!!
I love this cover. It’s not meant to be an exact replica of the original. I think they only tuned the voices a little to add a sci-fi feel to the video. This cover is a mix of the song and Stranger Things. They also added some ominous overtones which is to represent what is going on in the storyline of the show.
I know this might be baffling to you but EVERY song that's produced in a studio ANYWHERE has to some extent what you call "auto tune" even the original song. pitch correction is used to make sure a song is melodically on point, so you saying "I hear auto tune" is not anything special because everyone can very much tell.
Check out all VoicePlay reactions 😊 :

I love that Layne finally got a longer solo-ish singing part in this one! It's always so enjoyable to hear his voice take the spotlight
I wish he'd have decided to give himself camera time to match the voice - but hey, Layne's arrangement and video, his choice. Too modest.
@@Aurora-cv5to I’m with you on this too!! ❤

It’s definitely a phenomenon!
I agree!!
It's always so fun to see who has seen THE episode and who hasn't.

I haven't seen Stranger Things either. I know people obsessed with it. I expect excellence with VoicePlay no matter what. You're the best QoFy ❤️🎶✨💙
17:59 Layne was actually singing the melody to the song in this bit, which i’m pretty sure is why he had more camera time during that section
Oooh I CANNOT wait until 6pm to see this !! This cover has blown me away (and I don’t even watch Stranger things 😆)
I'm super glad you have reacted to this video. I love how they incorperate the 80's vibe so well. I'm also very happy you have begun to make your own music too. I cant wait to hear what you do in the future.
From what I can tell, where you said “I wonder what part Layne had” I’m pretty sure he was the lead for that section
But I love you reactions and analysis 😊
Yeah he did! I can tell Layne’s sweet voice every time! ❤

Watched it. Absolutely beautiful. You have a fantastic voice.
The song is featured in a key scene in the show. I don't know how long it will be before I can hear it without tearing up a little.
SO READY FOR THIS!! SORRY I AM SEEING IT LATE!! (bad internet while on vacay) Gotta see the show to understand the video concept!!😉
Whenever I see that confused look on a reactors face I instantly know that they don't watch Stranger Things. Haha

Great reaction as always! I feel like Geoff’s overtones here are similar to the high sub ones he did in Kidnap the Sandyclaws

This is from season 4 when Max was trying to get away from the Upside Down.
