Listening to hard rock and metal for more than 40 years, Riverside was able to become one of my bands of the moment. This album was dedicated to their guitar player Piotr Grudzinski who passed away in 2015. They have great material. Saw them once in Lisbon, hoping to see them twice this next October.

Actually Love, Fear and the Time Machine (which has this song) is the last album Piotr played on before his untimely and heartbreaking passing. It was the next album Wasteland that was dedicated to him, also a Riverside masterpiece.

The lead singer, Marius Duda is Riverside's bass player at the same time. I remember they said the whole album was inspired by the 80s vibes, like The Cure and stuff like that.

A sampling of songs to consider from them , all different, all good, from different points of their career...
    1) "The Curtain Falls" from their first album
    2 ) " Second Life Syndrome" 2nd album and a fan favorite
    3) "Beyond The Eyelids" from the 3rd album
    4) "Egoist Hedonist" or "Left Out"
    5) "Escalator Shrine" might be their greatest track among many
6)"Caterpillar And The Barbed Wire" from the same album as "Towards The Blue Horizon"
    7) "Acid Rain"
    8) " The Place Where I Belong" from the latest album....

Welcome to the universe of the best progressive rock band of the moment and I would also say of the last 20 years. Once I tried to make a playlist with the best Riverside songs. After a while I realized that the best thing was to include his entire discography. They don't have a single bad song.

Very nice! Riverside has been a hit over the last year; heard them over on Jim Newstead's channel; he covers everything from 60's to todays stuff :)
He's recently "discovered" a new prog metal band, Nospūn (pronounced Nospoon) "Opus" and is calling it likely "album of the year". An original, very energetic sound, a blend of DT, PF and Devin Townsend with a lot of Hakken - and lots of variety.

Love, Fear and the Time Machine' is probably my favourite Riverside album, and the live shows on that tour were stellar! Very sadly, gutarist Piotr Grudziński died shortly thereafter.

Riverside is an excellent band with a variety filled discography. They are Dream Theater with HALF the notes , and a more soulful singer. They tend to focus on melody and theme , over technical prowess and blistering solos. They draw from many influences such as Pink Floyd , Marillion ,Porcupine Tree, Rush ,Opeth, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Radiohead, Dead Can Dance, Vangellis, and Mike Oldfield. A lot of diversity there. When I get tired of endless solos and noodling, Riverside and Porcupine Tree are my go to bands.

Pick a Riverside track and you can't go wrong. Escalator Shrine would be my next recommendation. If you like a more view into their view on social commentary, I would recommend A Place Where I Belong which is from their newest album.
