    Thanks for your well crafted video! I used to fly a lot in my younger years, (pre 9/11, when everything was SO SIMPLE!), but now it has been maybe 10 years since my last flight. I will be traveling soon with my 85 year old mother in tow, so my anxiety level is off the charts right now. I think I'll plan to get to the airport three hours ahead of time!

    We are gonna travel with our 3 kids ages 1-7 from AZ to Orlando. I will try my best to check in 24hrs on the dot to get on group 'A' but is that better or the same to Family boarding? Our kids are little and we just want to make sure we can sit together. We are all very anxious about flying for the first time. Also, any tips for traveling with kids? (4 hour flight)

    • @AverageMe
      @AverageMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Group A boards ahead of family, so it’s absolutely better to try to hit that button at 24 hours. For younger kids, be sure to have snacks and things to occupy them (videos, games, etc). That’s a long time to sit. Download the Southwest app to many devices so you can watch their in-flight videos. Have charging batteries with you for a long flight. And you might consider sitting near the back so it will be near a bathroom and less disruptive if the kids start to get agitated. That will also give you more room to put things as more people will sit toward the front, and give you more time to prepare to get off the plane as well.

    i’m flying southwest really soon and i’m going alone (first time flying alone and i’m 13 years old) any suggestions for me that would make it easier since i’m an unaccompanied minor

    • @AverageMe
      @AverageMe  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically, since you are older than 12 you are not labeled an "unaccompanied minor" according to Southwest's definition. But on average you will find people are very friendly and helpful.
      1) Ge to the airport early, 2 hours prior to flight. This may seem long, but it will give you time to find your gate and get settled in.
      2) I'd suggest you get Early Bird Boarding. See the reasons why, and how to get it, here: th-cam.com/video/MDIkwd-48Jg/w-d-xo.html
      3) Unless you have to, I would not check bags and bring a single carry-on. That will make your life easier. That way you can download your boarding pass at home, bypass bag check, and go straight to security.
      4) Download the Southwest app, and sign up for the frequent flyer program
      5) Print your boarding pass as well as having it on the app. This way you'll have it in several places in case you lose the paper one or your app crashes, battery dies, etc.
      6) Finally watch all my Southwest videos as well as those of others. Learn what you can
      7) HAVE FUN! Millions of people fly every day, so don't get overwhelmed. Don't hesitate to ASK at the desk, the gate, or anywhere. People will help.

    • @AverageMe
      @AverageMe  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Southwest has 2 free bags, so very few people have to pay. But, yes, you can pay at that time for a third bag. There is not a scale at the kiosks but there is when you drop the bags at the counter. I have seen people pull their bags off the scale and start feverishly transferring items from one bag to another, so I'd make sure my bags were proper weight before leaving home.

      You still have the check in, but you do not have to stop at the desk to check your bags. You can proceed right to security. But its important you check in so you get an early boarding number. If you get a later boarding, then there is a chance you'd have to gate check your baggage.

      If it were me, I would have the mom and the two kids on one side and I would be on the aisle right across from them. That way the kids would not have to sit next to strangers. Can I take 2 carry on bags on the airplane? Can I put clothing on the personalized bag(how much weight Is allowed)?

    • @AverageMe
      @AverageMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not about weight, It's about size. Carry on allows one roller-type bag 21" or less that must fit into the overhead,, and a personal item like a purse or computer bag that must fit under your seat. Warning: in the case of full flight, you may be asked to gate check the roll-aboard. It's free, but goes on as regular baggage and you'll get it back at the carousel. And, yes, you can put clothing in either bag.

    Where can you print out the paper boarding pass?

    • @AverageMe
      @AverageMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The easiest way is to use the kiosk at the airport to print them. You can also ask at the desk when you check your bags and they will print them, or you can print them from home.

    • @AverageMe
      @AverageMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Several ways. You can print it from the app, you can open your boarding pass from the SW website and print from there, you’ll have the option to print it at the kiosk at the airport, and finally you can ask at the desk when you check your bags and they will be happy to print it,

    I am using the Customer of Size policy with Southwest & was told to go to the counter when I arrive at the airport to get my boarding pass & things because it’s a different process. Does that mean I skip the kiosk altogether?

    • @AverageMe
      @AverageMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to get the special boarding pass that you place on your seat to "hold" the extra seat next to you. I have never gone through the process, but if it were me I'd stop at the kiosk any way, then proceed to the desk to get your additional paperwork.

      That might depend upon the desk agent. The rules state 50 pounds, so technically anything over that will cost you. In my experience the desk agents usually let you take out and item and move it to your carry-on or another bag to help you avoid paying the fee.
