In America, you could cry about these types of issues until you turn green, nobody would even hear your complaints, let alone come out immediately and work day after day to resolve your issues, especially when a progressing business is in the wrong. I must commend England on hearing their citizens and the council acting instantly on their behalf, it's how a good community should function. In America we have a town council, but it's mostly for grievances to be heard, rarely resulting in actions being taken, especially actions benefiting citizens at the expense or inhibiting a businesses progress or expansion. A lawsuit is the only way to get action in America, Englands way of handling local problems is much more effective, and would stop alot of the frivolous lawsuits in the U.S. from tying up the courts.
Don't know where you are, but it's not that way where I live. If there's an ordinance violation etc., you call it in & within days the person, business, etc is notified & given a time-frame in which to rectify the situation.

Many cities have once monthly meetings to address issues, and typically in situations dealing with plumbing from city lines, or rodents from nearby businesses, you sort it out. A few years back they were clearing the land to put in a housing area, and the wildlife infested nearby homes. Raccoons, possoms, rats, all sorts. Some were endangered so you would have to hire someone to trap and remove them. Cost my folks over $20,000.

No one pays 52% in taxes, you have to account for how much tax allowance you have, how much of your income is in what band and how much National insurance you pay ( e.g. £157 of your weekly pay is Ni free, anything above that is 12%, upto £866, any more is charged at 2%). If I recall correctly no one really pays more than 40% in income tax.
My council is terrible 😢 They do the bare minimum maintenance that they can get away with and not even that sometimes. It's actually unacceptable and even dangerous at times. I think I have been complaining about the same issue for about 3 years now. A broken rotten fence. It looks really bad but the worse it's that it has metal sheets on them and they are sharp. There are also exposed nails. We have exhausted all our options regarding it and having a child my husband lost his patience and just cleared it away himself. It's not something he's proud of but it was the right thing. A child already hurt himself on it 😢 When he was clearing it someone actually told my husband it was about time we took care of it. It's infront of our house so it kind of look like a front garden but abandoned. My husband actually had to explain the we don't own the land 🤦 I don't know in percentage how much we pay in total to the council but it's definitely a lot of money. Enough to clear up a fence at the very least.

In other parts of the UK it weekly for recycling and food and every other week for general. Or some other sort of combination. If you don't mind living in a rural town there are plenty of underdeveloped parts of England. One of my uncles bought a home in a rural part as an investment for less than $75,000 USD worth, and it turned out that the area had so many houses that most houses sat empty. There's plenty of space but it has poor housing management.

The people answering the phones are now Council Officers. That is a very specific category of trained and authorised person who has the authority within limits to commit the council to certain actions. If you answer the phone in a call centre, you definitely do not fall into that category.

In my state housing has been shut down for about 10 years. You can't even get on the list. Only some disabled, then immigrants get on it now.

Makes me laugh! , people who rent are not reliable and many are crooks, LANDLORDS your renting to people who can't get mortgages, BUDGET in and expect rent arrears and damage and any excuse not to PAY
Yeah dust is annoying but it’s not forever and have to understand that the development of areas has to happen to benefit everyone, moaning about it every five minutes is just a waste a Human Resources and if it’s really that big of an issue close your windows and your sorted can’t hang your clothes outside get a dryer then many simple solutions
