    Ok, after having checked the most recent OFFICIAL estimates (2017) from actual, legitimate sources, this is the actual ranking order for the top 15 North American Metropolitan Areas:
    1. Mexico City, Mexico (population - 21,157,000)
    2. New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY,NJ,PA (population - 20,320,876)
    3. Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA (population - 13,353,907)
    4. Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL,IN,WI (population - 9,533,040)
    5. Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (population - 7,399,662)
    6. Houston-The Woodlands-Sugarland, TX (population - 6,892,427)
    7. Greater Toronto (GTA), ON, Canada (population - 6,417,516)
    8. Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC,MD,VA,WV (population - 6,216,589)
    9. Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, FL (population - 6,158,824)
    10. Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, PA,NJ,DE,MD (population - 6,096,120)
    11. Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, GA (population - 5,884,736)
    12. Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA,NH (population - 4,836,541)
    13. Greater Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico (population - 4,796,603)
    14. Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, AZ (population - 4,737,270)
    15. San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, CA (population - 4,727,357)
    I figured I’d do the top 15 instead of top 10, since a lot of people are probably wondering where their metro area places.

      And just in case anybody’s wondering what the top 20 are, here ya go...
      16. Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, CA (population - 4,580,670)
      17. Greater Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico (population - 4,475,949)
      18. Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, MI (population - 4,313,002)
      19. Greater Montreal, QE, Canada (population - 4,027,100)
      20. Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA (population - 3,867,046)

      Good, but living in DFW, isn’t the Houston area bigger than DFW?

    • @Brewzerr
      @Brewzerr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DFW_Productions No, but I can understand how that might seem a little confusing. Greater Houston is a bit larger than the Dallas division of the DFW metroplex by itself, but now the U.S. Census Bureau includes the Fort Worth metro division with Dallas as a single metro area, whereas they used to count them as separate. With Houston there is only one central hub for the metro area, and in DFW there are two.

      These are not technically wrong. They are a form of measure that includes the city population plus all its towns, suburbs exc around the city.
      It's not always a fare comparison however because cities like Dallas and Houston have pretty low density population across the entire city and expand over a very large space around the city, while cities like Toronto or Philadelphia are much more densely populated, busy, and dont expand as far outwards.

    The difference between the term City vs Metro Area is night and day! Dallas is a city of 1.2 million residents, Dallas/Fort Worth Metro is an area of 7million plus! The center of Dallas is 23 miles away from the center of Fort Worth measured Court House To Court house. They reside in two different counties. Dallas County and Tarrant County. Two completely different Cities with 30 plus cities around and in between. City of Arlington the largest has close to 400,000 residents. This can be said for all of the cities on the list. Los Angles maybe the City on the list that is completely misleading. The number of residents 13 plus million live in over 100 different cities in the Los Angles area.

  • @MrChampken

    You see cities just pick and choose what is "City land area" and what is "Metro land area" when often the comparison are completely different. Example:
    City A :Population 900,000 and land area 100sq Miles
    City B: Population 1.5 million
    Land Area 500sq Miles
    But reality City A could possibly have 2.5 million population if they accounted 500sq. Miles as City, but they didn't count the surrounding towns.
    Metro can do the same
    City A: population 6 million and 1,500 sq miles
    City B: population 7 million and 3,000 sq. Miles.
    Well City A just decided to not count as far of a distance to call as Metro population because of variety of reasons such as if they accounted 3,000sq miles of a distance they would actually be entering an entire new large cities metro area, another example could be land issues (water, Mountains, EXC.), or the city simply figured that any further then 1,500sq miles is very rural territory to account as "City Metro"
    Cities like Phoenix, Houston, or Dallas are measured very differently compared to cities like Chicago, Toronto, Philadelphia, Boston or San Francisco.
    Some of these Metro Populations and Land Area in the video are just rediculous, to account that land distance it's like you could be living 5 hours away from the city in a rural town and still call it "Metro".
    Example you could cut Toronto down from over 2,200sq. Miles to 680sq. Miles where the population is 5.2 million instead of 6.4 million, which is more accurate to the city popualtion and its nearby surrounding suburbs. 6.4 million is most likely cutting into other cities territory (example Hamilton) and rural areas.
    Dallas is no where near over 7 million people in reality.

    • @Brewzerr
      @Brewzerr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One big mistake made here was that the uploader labeled the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex as simply “Dallas”. He doesn’t seem to realize that Fort Worth is just as equally important to it’s metro area as Dallas is. It’s a metro area that’s anchored by two distinctly different hub cities that are both somewhat close in size. What a lot of people don’t realize, is that the DFW Metroplex is still divided into two different metropolitan divisions. It’s not like Houston, where the entire metro area revolves around one centralized hub city.
      The two cities do share some suburbs, but overall they’re basically two different metro areas that recently grew together, each with their own set of suburban areas. For instance, places like Plano and Mesquite are considered suburbs of Dallas, and places like Keller and Haltom City are considered suburbs of Ft. Worth. The only places that could be considered suburbs of both cities would be places like Arlington and Euless.
      So in other words, yes... on it’s own, the metropolitan division of Dallas is more like 4.9 million, and the metropolitan division of Fort Worth is about 2.3 million. Combined, you get over 7 million.

    • @Brewzerr
      @Brewzerr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I just checked the official statistics site for Canada, and Toronto’s GTA population, as of 2018, is 6,417,516... which places it at #6 in North America (behind Greater Houston). However, Toronto’s city-proper population is 2,731,571, which places it as the 3rd biggest North American city. Toronto just recently knocked Chicago out of the #3 spot.

    • @Brewzerr
      @Brewzerr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, yes. Greater Miami (as of the most recent official estimates) places it in the #8 spot, with roughly 6.2 million, while metro Philly ranks behind it at #9, with just barely over 6 million. This uploader got so many things wrong, I don’t even know where to begin. He (I’m guessing it’s a he) also mislabeled the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area as just “Dallas”. That’s really going to piss off any Ft. Worthians who happen to watch this. They HATE that shit.

      It's a measurement of Metro areas. But they are not always measurements of the same thing. Some cities include a further distance then others. Also population density can be a big factor in what describes a city.
      For example Houston and Dallas are mostly lower density populated over a extremely large land mass. Cities like Philly or Toronto are much more high densely populated and busy. But they dont include as far of a distance expanding outwards as Metro.
      It is a true measurement that Houston technically does have a higher Metro population then Toronto. However if you were actually in Toronto it would appear to be much more people in the city then it would on Houston....and the question is why? Well Houston official city boundaries has about 1,650sq km with only 2.3 million people....Toronto 630sq km has 2.9 million people. Toronto+Missauga +Brampton is about 1,100sq km and 4.3 million people. Toronto expands further to 1,740sq km has about 5.4 million people inside a similar land space of Houston City that only has 2.3 million . However Houston eventually passes Toronto only because it stretches its land mass far passed that of Toronto.
      It sort of means the metro numbers dont always describe the real density population.

    DFW is #5 but Greater Houston should be #6 Both have more than Toronto. Toronto city proper has more than Houston city proper.

    • @GoWestYoungMan
      @GoWestYoungMan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      True although MSA vs CMA comparisons can be problematic. The 'metro' population of Toronto would include both Oshawa and Hamilton using US definitions of metro. If one did so, 'Toronto' would clock in at 7.8 million... ahead of both Houston and Dallas. It will all be moot soon anyway. 2018-2019, Toronto added more people than any other metro in North America and its growth is only picking up momentum. Growth numbers in Dallas and Houston are weakening. It's almost a certainty that Toronto will reel in, and zoom past, Chicago too.

    • @rodneywashington2017
      @rodneywashington2017 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GoWestYoungMan Toronto is adding more people, but Houston & Dallas Metros aren't weakening. They're still rollin in. There's also biases when it comes to MSAs & CSAs as well. Greater Los Angeles will be 13M, then you'll see a blatant 18M MSA depending on how far you dig for the whole truth. But the biased writers will unbiasely make sure that Greater NYC is of course much further ahead of of LA with the 20M to 13M stuff. I like Toronto. It's one of my favorite cities and metro areas since the early 90s Blue Jays era. But when you start adding extra upon extra, then it loses credibility. Houston Metro is already just over 7.1M. DFW is in the 7.5M area. If I added even more to areas too far away from either DFW or Greeter H, then they'd both be in the 9.5M & 10M mark respectively. That's where it begins to get silly again. These population gurus have been doing this stuff for as far as I can remember reading up on this stuff since the early 80s and tracking more accurate amounts, as opposed to reading up on biased over exaggerated amounts for certain places.

    • @rodneywashington2017
      @rodneywashington2017 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's also important to note that it hurt these population people that Toronto surpassed Chicago in city population by discrediting and disrespecting Toronto saying "They'll never have Chicago's reputation, or influence or reverence" a few years ago I read. I thought that was just them hating on some butt hurt bullshit you know. Texas cities and metros as a whole fluctuate as most places would, but they're not weakening. Especially during this nonsense PLANdemic. Eventually in time, the population here will edge out California. Almost 10M people moved here in less than 10 years. It's still steadily going up.

      @MARKO Metro areas is what cities are truly measured by. Toronto is bigger than Chicago, but absolutely no one thinks it is a larger city due to Chicago’s much larger metro area. The same is said for Dallas. More people live in and around Dallas than Toronto and it’s growing faster than the Toronto area. Dallas-Ft Worth is the fastest growing metro area in North America with over 120,000 people moving here per year. America is a much larger country population wise. California alone has more people than Canada. Texas has nearly 30 million people...while Ontario only has 14 million. Texas’ 2 metro areas are equivalent to the entire population of Ontario.

    • @214dude2
      @214dude2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @MARKO they’re not that far apart at all. Dallas’ and Ft Worth’s outermost city limits is pretty close. They measure from Downtown Ft Worth to Downtown Dallas to get that 35 mile distance. There’s continuous development between Dallas and Ft Worth. Both cities share the same suburbs.
