I am a 18 year old junior in high school and didn't take my sophomore and freshman year serioulsly, so I have like a 2.3, I have one quater of junior year left and my goal is to get straight A's and I know I can do it , I just need to get out of the habbit of being lazy , but my point is HOW CAN I GET IN A GREAT UNIVERSITY LIKE YOU DID! , I could really use your advice , sometimes I think my life is over because I fooled around and messed it up , I wish I could go back and change everything , I should have listened to the ones who told me to work hard in school but now I'm stuck and don't know what to do !!!

+Murshid Melvin i basically have the same problem. i was a bit too lazy and careless in my freshie year, so now I'm kinda stuck in a bad situation sophomore year. i had a 2.4 in my freshman year, but i managed to bump up my sophomore year to 3.5. I'm still at a 2.9 and I'm hoping i can bounce back junior and senior year with 4.0s. i also have great test scores, but really i am sooooooooooooooo lazy, i barely want to touch a book its stupid af lmfaoo.

Either you ace your ACT with a 36 or you ace your SAT with a 1600. Other than that, I am sorry but the best you can do is Community College. I have a 4.01 with a 30 on the ACT and 10 clubs (officer in 4) and not even I can get into the top colleges.

+Paul Weinstein Dude i had a 2.43 GPA with a 1680 SAT score. i got into the University of Idaho. The best Engineering college in that state. But i withdrew before classes. i ended up doing 6 months of volunteer work at Seattle Aquarium and participated in many charity events. I wanted to go to the University of Washington. So i had interviews with them and did an early admission. They accepted me. My advise is to show the college of your choice that you can contribute to the world without the goal of money. Show them that you want to make the world a better place. College is not impossible. You just need to show them that you are MUCH MORE than your grades.

Failed all my classes my freshman year, even got dropped because of my attendance. Sophomore year was laughable, once you miss school so often and you fall so far behind, you feel like a failure. You don't want to go to school anymore, but the only reason you do, is because your parents force you. It wasn't until I had the self realization that I wanted to be successful, that I took school more seriously. I was homeless during this time, so I would get up at 4am and take the bus/max across town, just to get to my classes. Even if I was late, and stood outside that door with the feeling of anxiousness, I would force myself to go in. I was good at sports, but didn't want to pursue football, so my coaches didn't invest a lot of time in me. I ended up sitting down with my head coach and gave him my spill, and he actually ended up mentoring me up until my senior year. I made connections with my principal and concelour, and once the time to apply for colleges came around, I applied everywhere. I was rejected from every single university. I felt like giving up. My mentor ended up telling me about this wonderful scholarship that would give the winner a full ride to any college of their choice. I felt like my odds were impossible as I didn't have the grades to back me up, but even so, I poured my heart into all those questions. I made a video, and did the best I could . Time went by, and I assumed I wasn't even a finalist. No words from anyone. It wasn't until last month that I was invited for an interview that would help them get a better idea of whom I was. I went, not expecting anything. I was wrong. They had cameras everywhere, and once they called my name and showed me that box, I burst into tears. I had finally gotten a break. I was awarded the scholarship. I went home that day feeling accomplished but very anxious, as no universitys accepted me. I cried all night, as I felt that I was the embodiment of a person who would have the opportunity but not be able to take it. I woke up the next morning and spent days appealing all of my previous decisions. After weeks had gone by, I was hit with non-surprising words of ”we are sorry to inform you” or ”try community college”. I felt like I was back to square one. All I wanted was another chance... A chance to prove myself. I contacted the university I wanted to attend the most and asked for a third appeal. They declined. I then went in person, talked to the head of admissions, and he allowed me to get another try. I filled that appeal with everything I had; a reference from my coaches, principal, and counselors. I also sent a very long essay about why I wanted to attend. Just last week, after feeling like id be a nobody, I got the letter in the mail. I was accepted. I will be attending Western Oregon University next fall, and I'm proud of myself. The moral is to just keep trying. I may have surpassed odds that may not be likely for everyone, but if you're in the same position, don't give up. College is always a possibility. I'll never allow this second chance to be taken for granted. I known didn't have to write all this, but I just wanted to tell my story. Maybe it'll help another kid that's in the same predicament.

I have depression and extreme social anxiety and it's severely affecting my grades. I got Cs, Ds and Fs my first 2 years of high school and as a junior with Ds and Fs I'm doing even worse. I know that junior year is the most important year in high school. I'm not taking any AP or honors classes and still failing and honestly I don't know what to do! I honestly feel like I've ruined my life. I know people say "Oh don't worry you can turn your life around if you apply yourself!" But I've heard so many horror stories about adults who didn't do well in high school and tried so hard to turn their lives around and still failed. I don't know what to do I know I got myself into this mess. I feel like I'm on a plane that's doomed to crash. I know this is extreme but seriously I feel like killing myself because a life working at Walmart is not worth living. I have a semester of junior year left and then senior year. There's also a community college almost right next to my neighborhood but I'm not sure if I can get into it. Please can anyone help me?

I failed all my 9th grade classes, that being 15 classes total, D is still failing..Prior to that I had gotten kicked out of middle school, I was getting in trouble with the law, I was on probation & smoking & being a rebel. Anyways sophomore year I had a 3.0, joined track( Ironic right?) & AVID. I kept looking back at my freshmen year & came to conclude that because of those really bad grades & all the other stuff, I wouldn't stand a chance in making it into a university. Therefore I was debating whether to leave my high school & go into a continuation school( It's a school where you get to graduate early, very easy work) but if I were to go to that school It wouldn't look good on my college application, but I decided it was okay because either way I would end up going to community college therefore take the easy way and just go to a continuation school. Now that I've seen your video , I am determined to keep trying( which actually, trying is what I'm scared of. I don't want to try hard just so at the end I can fail my goal) I will try very hard my junior & Senior year with hopes that it all pays off

+doctorsoriku I had a gpa of 3.0, took some AP courses, and an SAT score of 2400. In all honesty being the most well rounded isn't everything. Show any talents or interests you may have through your application. Don't be afraid to show your passion and drive. An communtiy work or extra activities you have done should also be explained in detail and reasoning as to why you did them. Don't worry all you have to do is show them just who you truly are and the vision you have.
      Good Luck😄

Hello Jay, I am glad to hear that you have turned things around, it is very exciting news. I would recommend to continue your current path at your current high school, unless there are other benefits for you to transfer to continuation high school. I would also advice for you to go and speak with your local Community College Counselor. Most community colleges have a 'High School Partnership Program' - Click on example here: www.chaffey.edu/admissions/high_school.shtml
Most community colleges will allow you to take a community college course or two while you are still enrolled in high school. I would recommend taking your math and science college courses at your local community college (i.e. College Algebra, Physical Science, etc.). If you complete the appropriate community college courses they could count as college credits, but more importantly, universities will strongly value them. It demonstrates that you are ready to be successful in college since you completed college coursework. Do you want to know the secret of being successful in college courses? Take notes in class and do your homework. It is the only way to succeed, it is not about being smart, it is about being determined. I know it sounds complicated but I have a feeling your up for the challenge.
"You don't get what you don't ask for" so always continue to ask questions and ask for help. There are thousands of people that want to support you in getting into college. Hence my long-winded response, we want to help you. Keep asking and you will get there!

+GrandPa Gaming Hello GrandPa, even though you did many 'stupid things' as you put it, you still have almost another 62 years left in this world. This means that at 18 you have only lived a very small fraction, TINY fraction, so you have another 62 years to focus on accomplishing your goals. As you know, I also dropped out from high school with straight F's at 16 years old. I immediately enrolled in community college at Chaffey under the 'Second Chance Project'. Most community colleges should have a similar program: www.chaffey.edu/eops/EOPS%20Do%20you%20need-Quick%20fact%20sheet%20FA13UPDATED.pdf --- Please check out the program (check out the requirements: "Have NOT earned a high school diploma nor the equivalent" or "High School GPA below 2.5") and maybe take it to your local community college to find out if they have something similar. By the time I was 19 years old I was accepted to Berkeley as a Junior after spending a couple of years at Chaffey (Go Panthers!). Honestly, it is up to you and how you want to shape the next 62 years of your life because you have time to do anything you want! Keep asking questions and pursuing what you want and you will get there.

This was all possible because of the drive that you had to achieve your goal. Everyone develops at different speeds, so don't be discouraged because you aren't a top student in high school. +Ryan Schulz - Hello Ryan, CONGRATULATIONS on your awesome achievement!!! GREAT JOB! I am glad you were able to stay determine in high school and realize your goals. You are absolutely right, I was actually the lowest ranked student in high school. To your point, I did not let my horrific high school grades discourage me. A few years later, I finished as the top student at my university. What was the difference? I studied and did my homework AKA 'DRIVE/Determination'. SHOCKER! Your telling me all I needed to do is stay focused (pay attention in class, study, homework, and ask for help) to reach my full potential? It is not about being 'smart', it is all about being determined. I firmly believe that your determination is the most significant variable that will impact your success. I am positive you will love Ann Arbor as much as I did. The great thing is that UM will be with you wherever you go. I know this might sound cheesy but I want to share it with you anyway. I often wear my UM t-shirts when I go running in historic Boston and someone will always yell my way, "Go Blue." I was at Disneyland not too long ago wearing UM gear and an older gentleman came and shook my hand and said "Go Blue." Michigan is a great community and I hope you enjoy being part of it. Go Blue!

You can really get somewhere. I had a 2.0 by the beginning of my junior year and got it up. All you have to do is TURN IN THOSE ASSIGNMENTS. Even if you know you'll get a low grade because actually having a grade is way better than getting a 0. Spend more time on your work instead of being around friends. I had to push off friends or even find people who have a positive mindset who were willing to support me in getting through HS. Finally, when applying to college (if you plan to) use your life story as an advantage to let admissions officers know that you come from a disadvantaged background and that you learned your lesson about working hard to get to a better place. Trust me on everything I am saying. I have been through it. You will be crossing that stage sooner than you think.

I take an AP course I have a consistent 75 in the class or all(which rounds up to an 85). And I'm so nervous because I don't know if my GPA is gonna drop or stay the same. i don't live in the us but I would really like to study there or maybe in the uk. I am 21 years old now and I had quite a rough time when my parents seperated just a few weeks before my 17th birthday and all my grades started to drop. I made the wrong friends, started to take drugs and drink huge amounts of alcohol and no one really seemed to care at first but eventually my parents send me to hospital to become clean. I came back and I had missed a whole school year so I had to do it again. first everything seemed fine but eventually something seemed a bit off about me and I didn't know what was going on, I was just getting these mood swings, always feeling a bit nauseous and weak and again I missed quite a lot of classes but this time because I wasn't feeling well. A few months later I had fallen back again and I dropped out of school. the whole next year I was trying to figure out what to do with my life and got really depressed (so hospital again, yay) and I eventually decided to go back to school and finish it this time. about 3/4 into my first school year I got sick. really sick. and no one could tell me what was going on. I must have been to over 13 doctors and it took them 5 months to finally come up with a treatable diagnosis. so now there I was again , having missed a lot of school, possibly failing my classes and being really depressed about it. But I decided not to screw myself over this time. I studied harder than ever, was not exactly recieving good grades but at least not failing and now finals are only 3 months away. It looks like I will leave school with a 'gpa' of 2.5-3.0 which really sucks. but still I will be proud to have finished school at all, especially while dealing with both physical and mental illness during my final school years and even conquering them. so I will apply for college anyway. not sure how on earth I am supposed to convince them but there is nothing left to lose!

I have a 2.9 GPA and a 1250 SAT score. The reason my GPA is so low is because in freshman and sophomore year I thought I could afford to get c's so about all of my grades were c's. By the second semester of sophomore year I got my grades up to 2 B's and the rest A's. Im still continuing to get mostly A's and nothing lower then a B. Do colleges look at improvement in your grades or do they just look at your over all GPA and judge you based on that? Do you think I still have a chance at Penn State if I keep on this path or I should look at easier colleges?

+MichaelPlays MC Hello, I was exactly in your shoes a few years ago. I received straight F's and dropped out because I thought school was not for me. NOT TRUE! Every student has the potential to succeed in college which includes YOU! So, yes it is POSSIBLE for you to go to college. Take it from me, a high school dropout that got accepted to Berkeley and Michigan. We want a world where everybody is college educated. I am currently investing thousands of dollars in a book that can provide a little more detail on exactly how I got into the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Michigan with poor high school grades and no SAT/ACT test scores. I will only be providing the book to the people that I care about which are students/individuals who hope to go to college. If that is you, please stay in touch or direct message on Facebook (Facebook.com/livingthegradlife) or Instagram (_gradlife). Or you can see my channel for links. If you message me, I will make sure to get you a copy. I have a strong passion for wanting to help students in need and I want to give back as much as I can. If anything, make sure to check out: collegescorecard.ed.gov when deciding on which college to attend. It is a great government website that helps you evaluate/'grade' colleges based on graduation rates, cost, and how much money you will make in the future! All three of the most important metrics. Look forward to staying in touch and seeing where I can help? Thank you and I hope you have a great day!

I just started freshman year of high school, and I am doing terribly. I got C's, D's and one F. I want to go to George Washington university and I need a 3.8 GPA minimum. I currently am taking Honors classes, do you think I should switch down to CP classes? The problem with my high school is that it is the teachers that make the difficulty.....as in some teachers want to be the students friend hand out no homework and are very lenient towards bad or late work. And some teachers are very strict with clear biased towards other types of students. CP classes here just means you go at a slower pace, but my problem isn't the pace, its the amount of work. That is my main problem. I get overwhelmed quickly and my brain just shuts down. And with testing, I can study very hard, but when the test comes I get overwhelmed and dizzy and either forget the material or get too paranoid to think. I also have only one friend and not to many people like me there which gets me even more mad because I don't care about half of the things i'm learning. (I want to go into politics and human sciences). Since this is my first semester of high school I know its a base but I know that I could do something to fix it. My question is can I come back from my two C's one D and F?
    -Thanks, from Anas

      @sunnybunny8470 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello there!!! I can answer that question if you want! You can definitely, as a freshman raise your grades and leave those C's, D's and F in the past, when good Universities see the transition from bad grades to great grades, they will know you have potential. I'm going to tell you about my little brother who is a current student at George Washington University. Back in high school, my brother was your typical careless student who had really bad grades and graduated with 2.50 GPA, and a low SAT score, he got into a Community College his first year in a half and started getting really good grades, so he transferred to his dream school, George Washington University with a 3.87gpa and guess what happened, he got in! Right now, he is still maintaining his high grades, he is majoring in Economics with a minor in Political Science and he is loving every minute that he has been at GWU, he is living his academic dreams and SO CAN YOU!!!! You can do it, focused on your classes, enrolled in some extracurricular activities, but do not suffocate yourself with a lot of things, demonstrate you are a leader by getting involved in your school or community activities and by now, start studying for the SAT! I believe that you can achieve any goal you have in mind! Just focused in your studies and it can happen! You too can go to George Washington University! I am applying this year for Medical School!

No problem! Yes, he always wanted to be an Economist. People are successful when they love what they are pursuing and doing! People like Albert Einsten, who''s professos never gave him recommendations letters because they said that Albert Einstein was a mediocre student! And who is Albert Einsten? The most famous scientist in the history of science. Another one is Bill Gates and I quote him "I did not passed a subject, but my friend did, now my friend is an Engineer at Microsoft, AND IM THE OWNER!" -Bill Gates
Grades do not define your inteligence, experience is! Remember that kid!

It’s funny I began with straight As in my freshman year ambitious to go to Berkeley, but I looked deeply at my life, my sophomore year mostly consisted of Cs and Bs as I took this time to pursue the discovery of myself, I changed philosophies and religions, I wrote two books in my spare time, but I realized writing wasn’t really for me, then I began research the basic concepts of physics and other sciences, diving deeper and deeper in understanding, wanting to pursue these interests and eventually get a PhD, I know now this isn’t an option so I decided to join the navy and become a nuclear engineer on a submarine and eventually build a prototype of an invention I’ve been working on

I don't know if my GPA is good enough though as I'm at a 3.4 GPA right now and I'm a Business major which is a very hard program to get into at UCLA but I'm still going to apply anyway. If they don't want me, then there's plenty of other schools that will take me. The University of Kentucky and Kansas are my 2nd and 3rd choices. That's what's great about community college is that anyone that graduates from one is going to get accepted to a lot of different universities.

As funny as it sounds, I had no clue what college was or even what came after high school for a long time. I had no clue what the purpose of life was and what things I had to do to get through it. I learned about college in my freshman-sophomore year of high school. Because I had no motivation and felt like there was no reason to work hard, I didn't get the best grades. I always felt some sort of dissatisfaction in myself and found myself upset when I didn't do well. But then, I got a reality check when we had to meet our college guidance counselor and she told me my GPA. It was around a 2.0. She told me I would not be going to college. That was the day I knew something had to change. When I say I put in my life into taking AP and Honors courses, I turned a lot of things around. I was able to bring my GPA up to around a 3. I literally couldn't have done it without believing in myself. Motivation and a positive mindset can go such a long way. I went from failing and taking summer school for 2 years in a row and not knowing what college is to be in a 4-year institution on my journey to medical school. I still have so much to do! If I could do it, anyone really can.

+League in Na As I mentioned in my video, I was an EPIC failure in high school with straight F's and I eventually dropped out. Congratulations! You are not as bad as me and you have a great GPA.
After my epic failure, I went on to receive a 4.0 GPA at the University of California and graduated as the top student. Despite my perfect grades in college: I was rejected to graduate school, I was rejected for scholarships, and I was also rejected for jobs.
I have saved the hundreds of rejection letters that I have
personally received as reminders to keep me motivated. Failure has always fueled me to keep moving forward. Always use your moments of defeat to fuel you. It will NEVER get easy and you must remain vigilant and eager to do your best at all times.
Do you ever get inundated with the crushing waves of life’s
      stresses after a crucial mistake?
What do you tell yourself when you are being smacked around
      by life’s storms?
I may not be perfect in all my pursuits, but I always remind
myself “I did my best.” As soon as I sincerely tell myself that magical phrase, the storm subsides and I can calmly breathe again. As long as you honestly do your best, there is no raging storm that can make you drown.
Did you know that modern humans have been around for around
      200,000 years?
Over the past 200,000 years billions of humans have been faced with similar decisions to what you face today. Billions of humans over the past 200,000 years struggling to live a fruitful life! Guess what? Every single human for the past 200,000 years has NOT lived a perfect life. Billions of people over the past 200,000 years have all made mistakes and been rejected in their lives. Every single human in the history of this beautiful planet has confronted failure. I am always struggling because I want to control every aspect of my life. I want my life to be exactly as I imagine it to be. No human in the past, present, or future will ever have their life work out according exactly to their plan. Now you can exhale a deep sigh of relief and take comfort in the fact that every person around you DOES NOT live a perfect life.
If you need someone to review your personal statement, I would be more than happy to help and I could also share mine with you (it is a crucial part of the acceptance process). Please reach out to me directly via Facebook.com/livingthegradlife or Instagram: @_gradlife (direct message). If you are interested, I also wrote a book that I am only giving to people like you that are trying to achieve their dreams.

All I can suggest is that you google "colleges for a 2.8 GPA" and click on the college simply web address that pops up for you. I am sorry to hear that you don't currently see a straight forward path to pay for college. According to “How America Pays for College 2016,” almost a third of college costs (34%) were covered by scholarships and grants in 2015/2016. If you are committed to going to school, there are several options to help you pay. I would recommend starting at 'Scholarship Search by Sallie Mae®' - www.salliemae.com/plan-for-college/scholarships/. Search for more than 5 million college scholarships worth up to $24 billion that can help you pay for your college education. There is also fastweb.com. There is also probably a scholarship database at your school - have you discussed this with your financial aid office/honors program/etc.? I know the applications and essays may be hard work but they are worth it. There is always a way if you can remove any self-defeating thoughts. You don't need any of those since people will always provide you plenty. Good luck, stay connected.

Hello Hiren, I hope you are doing well. I can tell you are different from most because you are not afraid to ask. Do you want to know what is the most important thing that I have ever learned in my life? ASK! "You don't get what you don't ask for." I am not sure if you have already visited the EducationUSA website: educationusa.state.gov/your-5-steps-us-study. The website is sponsored by the US government so you know you are getting the best information. You can find a lot of helpful information on the EducationUSA website for international students that want to gain admission to a US university. They also have an advising center in Kathmandu, Nepal or you can call at 977-1-4414-598 or email as well. Here is the EducationUSA full website for Nepal: educationusa.state.gov/centers/us-educational-foundation-nepal - - - I will leave you with one more piece of information - there are over 190 independent countries in this world and last year Nepal ranked among the Top 20 in new international student enrollment - students enrolling for the first time at a U.S. institution. Nepal is among the Top 20 countries in the world that enroll the most students in the US: www.iie.org/Research-and-Publications/Open-Doors/Data/Fast-Facts. It was so impressive, it was worth repeating twice. I am sure you can accomplish great things, you just have to keep determined and focus on your vision. Keep asking questions! You don't get what you don't ask for.

I'm just now going into highschool but took a highschool Spanish class last school year and got a D. Because I was kinda depressed for the last 2 quarters and didn't care. But I've always been a good student and plan to be one throughout highschool. Will this ruin my GPA and or my chances at an Ivy league school?

I don't see how you received $200,000 to attend college. Was that from the school? The state? Private scholarships? Or maybe all three? Where you received the money is still unsure for me and still leaves me left without knowledge to gain money to attend college. I am happy for your success but it doesn't seem like everyone is as available for the same opportunities that you had. However, hard work and dedication are great values to ingrained and note as keys to success.

He received 200,000 for graduate school. Graduate school is usually more expensive than undergrad and because graduates are independent and capable of working, but they don't cause of studies, they are usually afforded more money for tuition, room and board, etc

@ Kayley Smoot According to “How America Pays for College 2016,” almost a third of college costs (34%) were covered by scholarships and grants in 2015/2016. "Scholarship Search" by Sallie Mae® - www.salliemae.com/plan-for-college/scholarships/. Search for more than 5 million college scholarships worth up to $24 billion that can help you pay for your college education. There is also fastweb.com. Also there is a scholarship database at your school - have you discussed this with your financial aid office/honors program/etc.? I know the applications and essays may be hard work but they are worth it. I applied to over 200+ scholarships so you have to put in the work, but it is all worth it in the end.

hello! Ive got a pretty low sat score of 1740 and i don't have good grades in school. Im either failing or getting Cs in high school. I want to apply to University of Michigan and university of wisconsin madison. Do you have any tips on how to increase my chances of getting accepted or anything to share about how did you get accepted into UM? Thank you!

    • @TheDropout
      @TheDropout  9 ปีที่แล้ว

+Clarissa Lim - Hello Clarissa, thank you for reaching out! First, don't put too much stress on yourself over the grades you have received because they do not wholly dictate your full potential. Most likely, since your life is just beginning, you have another 62 years of life to remedy your current grades. That is a very long time. It is all going to depend on your willingness to put in some work. I would highly advice for you to go and speak with your local Community College Counselor. Most community colleges have a 'High School Partnership Program' - Click on example here: www.chaffey.edu/admissions/high_school.shtml
Most of them will allow you to take a community college course or two while you are still enrolled in high school. I would highly recommend taking your math and science college courses at your local community college (i.e. College Algebra, Physical Science, etc.). If you complete the appropriate community college courses they could count as college credits, but more importantly most selective universities (like UM and Wisconsin) will strongly value them.
There are thousands of people that want to support you in getting into UM or Wisconsin (I secretly vote for UM). Hence my long-winded response, we want to help you. Keep asking and you will get there!

+AGNES NIKUZ I really apologize for the long delay, I hope you can forgive me : ( Thank you for reaching out because I am trying my best to change the perception that an individual has to be perfect to succeed in school. First, use negativity to fuel you (i.e. 'everyone tells me it's over'), it is always fun proving them wrong ; ) Second, you have a very loooooooong life ahead of you. Only you can dictate where you want it to go. I am almost certain that you can perform a lot better on the SAT. Ask yourself if you really studied as hard as you could? Did you ask for help from teachers, counselors, parents, librarians, peers...how many people did you ask to help study? According to the College Board (I.e. SAT organization): Students who took the SAT more than once - increased their score! research.collegeboard.org/sites/default/files/publications/2012/7/researchnote-1998-5-score-change-retaking-sat.pdf --- Retake the SAT because chances are that you will improve your score. I would also recommend taking some community college courses next year and transferring to your dream school. Lastly, check out the U.S. government website that provides key performance measures for most universities @ collegescorecard.ed.gov/search/?name=concordia&sort=advantage:desc Make sure you are not paying too much for a university that doesn't graduate enough people (type the name of any school you want, includes community colleges). Focus on the each college's graduation rate, you want to pick the one that graduates the most. I am being 100% with you when I tell you that you can still be extremely successful in school, it is going to take some serious effort on your part to do your research, homework, study, pay attention (since in front of the class if you have to)! You dictate where your life will go.

I am currently a junior, as a freshman I had average grades in the normal classes, I had mostly C's a couple b's and maybe an A, as a sophomore I ended the year with one c two A's and 4 b's. with those grades(so far) I don't believe I will get into a UC college right out of highschool, but I was wondering how long do you think I would have to go to a community college before I transformed to my dream college (assuming I have a 3.5 or above I'm community)? I would appreciate your feedback greatly being that school stresses me out a bit more than it should.

I did 6 months of volunteer work at the Seattle Aquarium and helped the homeless shelter by giving them food with a muslim organization (Im a Christian). You have to think of others before yourself. And you need to do EVERYTHING on the application. Even ALL the optional questions. Also try to have an interview with colleges. This I very misleading It is definitely NOT ok to get straight Fs and expect to get into top schools. This guy isn't telling us the entire story. He probably came from a rich family and that's why he got in with failing grades. idk, but he said he was working at chucky cheese so he most likely didn't come from a wealthy family. ill rule that out, but theres something hes not telling us. Idk how the hell he got into a top school with failing grades plus he never explained how he got in the school in the video. this shit just dosent add up.maybe he knew someone that worked in the school admissions office and they just excepted I'm because he had connections with people that worked there and thy let him in.

      @TheDropout  9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

+Jacob Yousif Hello Jacob, despite failing 4 classes it seems you have one very important thing going for you right now...you CARE! The fact that you reached out demonstrates that you care about your education and future which is one of the most important things you need to succeed in life. After 10th grade, I dropped out of high school because I failed all my classes. Three years after I dropped out of high school I got accepted to UC Berkeley which is the top public university in the United States. Please believe me when I tell you that it is never too late to succeed. You just have to CARE, so please keep reaching out to as many people as possible (i.e. teachers, counselors, school administrators, myself, etc.) to keep getting help and encouragement to help you achieve your goals.
I am assuming you are around ~13 years old, theoretically you may have another 67 years to live your life, right? Don't let the 13 years you have already lived dictate the next 67 years...you have way too many years ahead of you to accomplish anything you want to get done. Reach out if you need more specific advice, but your life is just beginning!

If that is you, please stay in touch or direct message on Facebook or Instagram (see my channel for links) and I will make sure to get you a copy. I wouldn't even say kids are dumb. They're not. It's not a matter of dumb or smart. It's a matter of hard working and determined vs. lazy as shit. High achieving students often have a strong reason or ambition as to why they choose to do well. Your purpose has to be strong enough. If you're sitting in school not knowing why you're there in the first place you're probably not gonna perform that great so it all starts with the question why are you here and what are trying to do after you graduate.

Do you think the ACT is a huge factor to get into your dream school?

+Jocelyn A Hello Jocelyn, please don't worry. As I have said before and I will say it again, you have the next 62 years of your life to make your dream a reality. That is PLENTY of time to accomplish your goals. I am almost certain that you can perform a lot better on the ACT. Honestly, ask yourself if you really studied as hard as you possibly could? Did you ask for help to study for the ACT from teachers, counselors, parents, peers...how many people did you ask to help you study? The only reason I ask is because according to the ACT organization: of the students who took the ACT more than once - 57% increased their Composite score www.actstudent.org/regist/retake.html --- Maybe you can retake it because chances are that you will improve your score? If you honestly gave it everything and you can't possibly do any better by retaking, I would recommend taking some community college courses next year and transferring to your dream school. Remember, when you transfer from community college to your dream school, your college degree will NOT say that you went to community college first. I would HIGHLY recommend retaking the ACT. Everything worth doing requires effort.

My theory is to attend a cheap college at UG and get an ivy league for PG.

Hello ItsKylee one of the most important things I would say is don't be lazy. If you take pre AP or AP classes, just really be determined to not wait to the last minute. Keep getting good grades and retake test and stuff

I honestly took an AP class (AP Biology) and took as many honors classes I could. Make sure EVERY assignment is turned in by the date it is due and you're honestly good. I had a 2.0 my sophomore year and got all A's and some B's (with a couple C's) to get it up to around a 3 by graduation. Colleges love to see an upward curve. Don't let anyone tell you that you cannot do it. You can.

I'm 17, it's time to go in college... my grades in 12th is 37% only with grace marks of 3%= 40% total. I was so worried that no college will accept me! I can't repeat highschool, after this video... now i'm little bit satisfied :)
