Hey ... Tooth Fairy here. I hope the hike is going well. I had to get off trail due to 2 deaths in the family over 2 days. I'll be back on trail on the 2nd. Keep on rocking it!
Hi Michael! I'm planning and training for a NOBO 2025 AT thru-hike along with my lovely 3 years old black lab, who is my Epilepsy (seizure response and alert) service dog. I'll be following along on your adventures this hike to see what I can learn! I'm nervous about her being with me; I know her needs will always come first, and I'll be hiking her hike instead of mine- but this is a HUGE dream for me and If I'm going, she's going. Id love to hear about any challenges you might face along the trail with Leo, from hiking, hostels, hitches, etc. Any info is good info! Love the videos so far, best of luck on your hike!
I love that you had such awesome weather to start! I can't believe you've been at this for only 4 years.. .you make it look effortless. Going down Blood is no joke. It makes for unhappy knees. Clearly, you and Leo are super dialed in. I am catching up on the first few videos! Hope that toe is feeling better. Blood by day 2 is BEAST MODE. HAPPY Trails!!!
I know it's just Feb. But theres been some warm days here in GA and pollen is among us. If you haven't started yet you might consider starting some allergy meds. Looks like another beautiful day!
I do dog sitting and I walk a couple different kinds of doodles. Love that you take the time to translate Leo’s perspective. I’ve been enjoying watching these trail vlogs. It has my 2 favorite things! Dogs and backpacking! I’ve also been watching your other videos for about a month! Found your channel from the kylehateshiking pod. Glad to have another hiking channel that I enjoy!
Really enjoying your hiking video. Finally someone that is making a serious effort in planning, prep and then doing it. To many hikers this year are out of shape, morbidly obese and seem to take this challenge as a hike along fun party when they should be building their strength. Those hostels love selling slack packs and extra zero, nights but that doesn’t really help the hiker in the long run. Like the way your dog sits and waits for you to catch up also. Have subbed and will follow you.
Thanks for taking us along with Leo, live “hiking” with him. Your knocking down the miles, you look well prepared. And yes, you probably want some Vitamin I after that hard day. (Nasal allergy sprays work wonders for me)
I heard more than one person say, hiking poles are a god send for the down hills. To help take some of the weight the knees. I’m sure you probably know it already guess it is a choice you made not to. You are making great distances without them regardless just thought I mention it.
I used to use them but they got carried more than used so I ditched them a few months ago. Have done over 100 miles before I came here without and I like it now without them.
Michael; you and Leo are doing great. I realized I just watched day 2 of your AT hike but with the delay in vlogging you’re probably into this hike about a week now. So with that said, I’m always wanting to try out different hiking shoes and want to know how do you like the Topo Traverse so far, any issues, problems with them etc…. ?
Cheers to your amazing videography. Accolades to the trail views and pleasant commentary. That includes Leo’s comments too. Question: I noticed your alpaca shirt is full of sweat. Is it still comfortable? I use the Buffalo Gear Teclite Shirt. That is Pertex on the outside and Teclite pile inside. Buffalo Gear is great. However, with a pack on I will sweat. A bit uncomfortable because I think the pack keeps the material from evaporating the sweat. Thinking about switching to alpaca. Thoughts? Wishing you peace and good fortune. Happy Trails!
He's doing great. All the hiker's I've run into absolutely loves him. But he's also well trained and doesn't go to anybody and follows all my commands.
Can you show what you feed Leo (if you haven’t already and I missed it). Curious on what he gets and if he carries his own food. Doing a thru hike this summer with my pup who eats kibble
We switched to a brand called nature's diet it is a dehydrated food for dogs but it's real food, chicken, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes. Yes he cares. His own food four-day carry
@@ISuckatHiking I was curious too, I assumed Leo was carrying his own food. He is such a good companion. I'm so amazed at how good he listens to you. When he runs off, as a dog mama myself it gives me anxiety. Obviously he's had great training!

On the meds it's clearing up!
Just started watching your journey, and I must say I love the talking dog and the shots as you walk down the trail

That was a beautiful sunrise. Any views with the layering of the mountains is stunning. Leo seems to be having a blast!
He truly loves being out here
Good morning Leo! Actually, your human does not suck at hiking 😂
Leo says - 'He's getting better'

Thanks, I am glad they are all out trying that's how you learn. I would have been horrible to watch when I first started too.🤣
Absolutely gorgeous episode my friend, shots and overall atmosphere are amazing here!
Thanks a lot!
You need to get Leo a red cape so that he looks natural flying thru the trail. Sweet video content.
Thanks!

You won’t suck at hiking for long keeping up with Leo. Stay safe
I try but I can't!
Sure is fun to see your poodle having fun too. Sounds like Zyrtec time
A little was needed

We rest when we need to and walk when we need to
Impressed you made blood mountain on day 2. And it looks like Leo wants to break the record 😂.
He does 🤣

Yes it was!

You’re crushing it.
Thanks
I definitely like your gear choices. I will be changing a couple things in my bag. Take care of those knees.
Right on
I’m sorry to ask, but just out of curiosity do you dig dog holes for Leo or is it just a case of out of sight out of mind.🤣🤷🏻♂️🙏🏻🇬🇧
He 💩 off trail and I bury it!
Great day!!
It was

I was wondering what you do with Leo in town stops or in hostels? Looking to take my pup on a backpacking trip soon.
He is a service dog so he can go everywhere
Big miles. Lookin' good.
Thanks
Great video.
Thank you!
What do you do with your dog at town stops or inside the hostel? Planning a trip with my pup next year!

I sweat but am still warm. I have a Merino wool layer too and will switch back and forth.
@@ISuckatHiking Thanks. Do you also wear a shirt under the alpaca? Best wishes!
I had no idea people brought dogs on the AT. How do other hikers feel about it? How is he holding up? Do you put anything on his paws?

Go Michael and Leo- your favorite stalker 🤪🤪

Thanks he is a golden doodle
Another awesome video! What is the wax you put on Leo to help with hiking?
I consulted with a vet. She said stop using the wax.
