When Mat talks about the importance of wanting to grow and be connected to a band, I don’t think there’s anyone that understand that more than himself. When Citizen was in AZ in August, they did an acoustic show for free at our local record store and Mat and the band stayed after to take pics, and during this, the person taking the pics said we didn’t want to keep the band long, but we overheard Mat say “I just want to get through as many photos and people as we can- as many as we can”. He seemed so genuine about wanting to meet the fans. We also went to see him perform his solo music in November, and he came out during one of his openers and started selling his own merch. We got to chat it up with him for a few minutes, and he’s just the nicest, coolest guy. Much love for this dude, he’s one of the most underrated in the business
Lol my friend saw Citizen during the As You Please tour and his biggest complaint was that "they acted like dicks, like they were too good for the crowd". Hearing it from Mat's perspective is interesting. And funny.
