I call that "Making memories with dad" My daughter is now 42 years old, and she still tells me about the time she helped me roof the barn. Memories are priceless and she is learning how to take care of herself. So many kids now cannot even change a flat tire or jump start their car. "It's a damn Shame."
I remember the first 4+4 tractor I drove was a versatile I think it was the 895 it was 8 something it’s been 30 years since then lol my memory is lucky to remember lunch yesterday thanks for sharing buddy
We’ve got a 500 here. Never used it for tillage. Dad pulled 30’ of JD 9300 drills with it for years. Wouldn’t say they are bad tractors. Just wouldn’t recommend hard tillage work. If anyone is interested ours could be for sale too.
Excellent video JT :) for you saying daughter need do brake work on her with her and like hearing that ! My cousin Nancey she does to me also her 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle too and she smart person too ! Also JT oil pressure showed on gauge of Cockshutt 40 that super right be and yes change oil right after day light duty work after rebuild correct to do! Even get Starter drive fully rebuilt on new parts inside it save from break down and Generator to recharge battery too! If used headlights on that tractor change bulbs also wiring or old 6 volt positive ground cloth type burn up to plus fuses on back of switch too! I say think think about the tractor want on next level project too!
First versatile 4×4 saw was149. Local dealer sold out his block, go all over western Canada get unsold versatile, new Holland, Morris rod welder. Cockshot, Oliver or Minneapolis Moline (red, green or yellow) White Motor.
Dad bought a 500 back in 1977 then a few years later traded for a 555. The 500 had the 504 Cummins and the 555 had the 555 Cummins. Neither one was much of a power house.
My uncle had a 555 Versatile for years. He didn’t have any issues with it, but he didn’t work it hard all the time either. Glad to see your daughter learning how to fix stuff herself, did the same thing with my daughter. Thanks for the Videos
If I was in your shoes I’d rather paint the 5010 next summer when it’s warm (no disrespect) I’d rather have everything working this winter, I’m excited for that 7000 planter to show up 😊
I wpuld do the clutch repair first JT. Functionality before cosmetics. That said...i like fresh paint as much as you do! Seems like fresh paint makes them run better somehow! 😉...also, that 500...i dont think many of those were built. Explains why parts might be scarce.
Walk away from the Versatile. Put a clutch in the Steiger. The 5010 doesn't need paint to be dependable. And besides, a little polish and a buffer... good to go. 👍🇺🇲💪
Good for you! Teaching your daughter how to repair her own brakes! Might be my imagination but it seems like if you have to repair what you break or wear out you are more careful running it. Your daughter will thank you someday!
When we needed to push snow, our Co-Op E3 would start in below zero temps. Sometimes the 6-volt battery would need a little help but it never let us down.
Work on the Steiger next. Hope you buy the Versatile. I enjoy watching you. You farm with the Era of Equipment that i enjoy the Most. Growing up in the 70s & 80s ,i Enjoy this Era of Equipment the Most. Keep up the Great videos restoring your older Equipment. Love your 4x4s. The Versatile will Fit in your Stable just fine.
I love the story of your daughter and her brakes. My daughter is in her late 30's now and we have a lot of laughs about her young years and my cars. She would come home from college and the gas tank was unbelievably empty and I mean that. I would say it was a miracle multiple times that I made it to the gas station. When you get 17 gallons in a 16 gallon tank empty. And then the check engine light. "How long has this been on honey?" "Oh Dad, that's always on! Don't worry about it!"
That’s an awesome beast. Got two running 700 versatiles with the 555 Cummins in them around here. Got to warm them right up before operating them or you’ll blow them engines.
I’ve done a clutch in each of them. Pretty simple, but the input shafts are becoming hard to find. Had a fabrication shop build my last one. The plates and such are easy to get.
It was always fun going past Anderson’s on the train in the winter. It was even better spotting cars under their loading tank when the dryer was cooking.
I like the versatile if the price is right- I'd do the clutch first so it's ready for planting- great to see your daughter learning much needed skills especially with shop rates these days- quality time together is also a plus
I think you should paint the john Deere 5020 that should be next on the list of things to do and then the stiger bearcat good luck with the new project i hope it works out you have amazing week JT
“GB” clutch needs doing not much use without it, the Versatile looks to be an interesting project if the price is right then paint the 5010 next year when it’s warmer. Enjoy your channel great to see the old kit getting some care and attention.
We owned a 500 versatile ourselves. Honestly it was a great machine for what it was. We had a clutch issue too but it was cause by the input shaft brake cable being messed up. That wet clutch had a brake on the input that stopped it from spinning so you could shift. Really was a simple machine to work on. A lot of parts were available but you had to find the industrial supplier that versatile sourced them from. Was an enjoyable one to operate.
I'm a sucker for oddballs That Versa 500 is a Uncommon little dude. Paired with the Was 555 v6? cummins I'd say Go for it!!!. I haven't seen many in MI. P.s get the Steiger done, do paint on the 5010 later. Big job done first before its janurary and -10 out.
Boy that 500 with a ptoand three point is a rarity around here. Most 4 wheel drives of that vintage are bare backs. That 500 would make a great grain cart tractor
I thought he meant a price to repair it for the owner. It would be an interesting addition to the fleet if it’s for sale though. I drove a brand new 875 back in 78.
If you can get that Versitile at a decent price with the full set of tripples I would snap it up...that thing would be a beast once you put a clutch in it.
Pre-Emissions Tractors are only getting more and more expensive. Look at it as an investment.. You sure as hell don't want to buy anything new! That stuff is crazy expensive and almost impossible to repair.
I would buy the versatile you should be able to find parts they are good tractors that are under rated same as my old belarus they are from Russian geting hard to find parts but some where will have them keep the old iron running
I would do the clutch first. AndRemember there's nothing wrong with adopting A Friends ugly Tractor they're always expensive no matter what they look Like And it's always hard to Find parts for an ugly One .great job, wonderful videos keep up the great work.
JT I think you should consider your clutch project first, then paint,it might take longer than expected. I believe you said you wanted to remove the cab, that to will take some time. If you get the Versatile we’re would you keep it. Love your videos JT you’re a good teacher.
I’d personally do the clutch first, and I’d probably run the Deere awhile before paint to make sure to work the bugs out of it. That’s just my opinion.
Question is JT, is the owner of the 500 in need of his tractor? If yes, times a wasting. Parts can be found. Mind you I'm in Canada, so they are a little more abundant here. Can you "heat" the shop? iffin the Big V isn't needed, I'd say paint the JD. Get it done, get it gone. Could be done by Christmas easily. Then the Steiger. It "May" take a little bit of JT wizardry to comeplete. If so, other projects aren't pushed into planting time. And you have Big Red the 1805, available to cover the big jobs, and the 1155 ready to help out. I say do the Versatile later if possible, unless it's a crunch for the friend. Remember, "A friend in need is the guy who'll help you when yer stuck." Like the walk around Idea, keep 'em coming.
Great video! At least its red and not green so it has that going for it! You are going to have to stop getting more tractors and start building a shed to put them in!😊😅😂
Using a tractor with old paint is easy and it still gets the job done . Using a tractor with out a clutch that’s a different story so I think it’s an easy question.
Paint the JD. You can sell it for big money since people thing the GREEN is worth more than they really are. More profit for you to buy more toys...Build the 500...if you have a source to build parts...it just ecology and economics for our country to productively use equipment longer than we usually do. REAL empowered women have dads who teach them stuff and spend time with them...The best hope for our country!
Hey JT lots of support here from Ireland! My dad wants to know where you're gonna keep all these tractors over the winter! Especially with the bearcat in for surgery. What state do you live in btw?

Right on! I’m hoping she won’t be “that girl “
My sister who is 5 years younger tells me the same thing. Teaching her how to repair her brakes.👍🇺🇸
From what I hear, Versatile tractors will pull what other tractors in their class can only dream of.
Most will! But the 500 and 555 are the problem child of the bunch
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 They just need a little extra love.
@jtsbarnngrill6873 can you explain?
I remember the first 4+4 tractor I drove was a versatile I think it was the 895 it was 8 something it’s been 30 years since then lol my memory is lucky to remember lunch yesterday thanks for sharing buddy
Well, you missed out on the awesome IH... I'd snap that Versatile up.
Good on your daughter for being willing to get in there and do some of the work and you for having the patience to teach her. 👍🏻
She is learning. Makes a dad proud!
Very cool JT, when I was young I put hundreds if not thousands of hours on a 835 series 3, solid tractors.
We’ve got a 500 here. Never used it for tillage. Dad pulled 30’ of JD 9300 drills with it for years. Wouldn’t say they are bad tractors. Just wouldn’t recommend hard tillage work. If anyone is interested ours could be for sale too.
8 in a V, it's for JT!
BTW, I vote for putting the clutch in the green bastard. I prefer working tractors to shiny tractors.
Copy that! Clutch it is!

Gotta keep the old stuff going, so if it was me I would get that old versatile
Clutch on the Stieger! Paint is summer work :) !
It sure is!
Enjoying the Sunday night videos!! That Versatile would make a cool Project.
I like any Versatile. They are all awesome. Great, i can not wait to see more.
JT, it would be great to see some blue iron on the farm if you could find any.
Do the paint job next summer. Get the clutch done before spring.
Get the green bastard going, so it's ready in the spring.
I’m with ya! The 5010 is working, but the green ba$tard isn’t. Might as well get that one going!
Get the clutch done first JT. You know it makes sense😂
Dad bought a 500 back in 1977 then a few years later traded for a 555. The 500 had the 504 Cummins and the 555 had the 555 Cummins. Neither one was much of a power house.
JT's Barn m Grill home to orphan tractors. Not a bad little project.
Love the new behind the scenes videos JT! Wish more channels did this kind of stuff, keep it up!
More to come!
Love it brother!@@jtsbarnngrill6873
Also would be neat to see an old versatile up and going again. Don't see them very often.
My uncle had a 555 Versatile for years. He didn’t have any issues with it, but he didn’t work it hard all the time either. Glad to see your daughter learning how to fix stuff herself, did the same thing with my daughter. Thanks for the Videos
Paint please 👍 I really like those “row crop style” 4wds like the 500. By the way would love to see something on triples on your farm
Clutch first. Paint won’t stop a tractor working. Paint can wait for warmer weather
If I was in your shoes I’d rather paint the 5010 next summer when it’s warm (no disrespect) I’d rather have everything working this winter, I’m excited for that 7000 planter to show up 😊
Right on. I’m with you!
Cool old V-500 tractor. needs work, butt JT has the opportunity to own another tractor to work-on. I didn't see Fluffy today.
I agree. That Versatile is pretty cool.

That’s where I’m at. Clutch first
Clutch… get it ready for spring. Keep up the grind man. The channel is growing

Was waiting for you to post the new Sunday night vid , never seen a versatile make tractor here in the uk 👍😃😃
One thing I like about the 500 is the fan in the cab👍...give your hair a blow dry if you don't get time to do it before you leave the bathroom 😂
Yes!!! A triple nickel Versatile is awesome!!! Got my vote!
A good product for us to see you do 👍🤔
I love the story of your daughter and her brakes. My daughter is in her late 30's now and we have a lot of laughs about her young years and my cars. Thanks for another Sunday video, really enjoying the extra content, 👍🏻 I would probably go ahead with the clutch first
10-4
I say clutch in the Steiger as well as 8 new shoes will make it look and run so much better
Clutch in the big green bastard.
We owned a 500 versatile ourselves. Honestly it was a great machine for what it was. We had a clutch issue too but it was cause by the input shaft brake cable being messed up. Paint well you still can followed by clutch in the dead of winter.
YES I absolutely love these tractors

If I know you you'll get them both done before spring lol
You love a challenge JT. Go ahead and get the ole girl going again.
The 500 might make an interesting project if the price is right.

My vote is "PASS" on the 500.

it will make a good project and will be nice tractor

Do the clutch you can always paint
Very true!
I missed Fluffy this time! Your videos are fun to watch…
Fluffy wouldn’t come out that early 😆
I say get the Steiger going and send the 5010 down the road. As always really enjoy your videos. Massey Strong!
If the price is right, I'd say go for it.
I say do the green bastards clutch and if you work on the versatile I'll watch the videos. Looks like a solid tractor.

Agreed!
They were good economical tractors. The only issue I could see is the cummins 555 is nearly impossible to get parts for.
Very true!
Looks like a straight tractor I guess it depends how much he is asking for it and what the parts cost
