This song is perfect, exactly what one says or wants to say when love has trailed off and away. The melody is very, very beautiful. Since I am a woman, I have in my lifetime, found strength and comfort also listening to Judy Collins sing this song, "Daddy, You've Been on my Mind." I thank you, Bob for the sustenance your work has provided me. I thank you for the enlightenment. You did significantly alter the world and contribute deep, powerful and beautiful insight for many. It makes me happy to know your work will remain among the very, very best gifts my generation has left for the ages. 🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎

Lyrically unmatched and vulnerably unmatched Bob shows you what he is made of and says what he has to say and it's a feeling that goes a long way, mama you've been on my mind

You’re very welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it. The show took place on a cold night in late October in a tent on the grounds of a junior college in Massachusetts. There was a problem with the heaters for the tent not working and after everyone had been standing around in the cold for an hour, waiting to go in, they announced the show was cancelled. Everyone was lined up, waiting to show their tickets and give their names and contact info to the organizers so they could notify everyone if/when it would be rescheduled, when suddenly they got the heaters back on. It made the show feel that much more special - maybe for Bob, too, because he HATES to cancel performances.
I have a few more songs from that night which I’ll get around to posting eventually. There’s a lot of other material in the pipeline on the way as well. 🙂

I was there but didn't recall all the details. Do you have the entire video of this? Also a guy I went with is the annoying voice on the bootlegs shouting "Maggies Farm" for the entire show.@@ArturArtist

Thank you so much for posting this! I was at this show. It was GA, in a tent-a makeshift set up, so the line was chaos & when they opened the "gate," after a long delay, people just started sprinting. I've seen him about 30 times since, but I remember this show as one of the very best - top 3.

Hi Russ, thanks for your comment, and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I was there, too. I actually shot this video as well as the others I’ve put up. I don’t know if you were aware at the time of the full circumstance that night. If you recall it was quite cold and they were having trouble getting the heaters in the tent to work. So after a long delay word was they were going to cancel the show, and the opening act - I think her name was Melissa Ferrick - who was local to Massachusetts, had already left for home.
Then, when some ticketholders were already starting to leave, I believe, they finally got the heaters fixed. So then we had to still wait a while longer while they tried to get hold of her to tell her to come back. If I’m remembering correctly I think they ended up giving up on that, so there was no opening act.
Also if I remember right, the tickets were originally actually sold with reserved seats. But in the chaos of all the changes, and difficulties communicating with the crowd of people waiting, you’re right that people just rushed in when they opened the gate and grabbed whatever seats they could. It actually worked great for me. I think our tickets were for seats in the 6th or 7th row, maybe, but my late husband and I were waiting right up front near the table where some of the organizers were stationed, trying to keep tabs on developments. So we got in fast. The first 3 rows, I believe, had actually been “roped off” with string - they were supposed to be reserved for college faculty and staff. But other people had already torn through that and started claiming seats there, so we ended taking a couple in the third row. It was just a little closer but probably made all the difference. Because the stage was so very low, it probably would have been impossible to keep the camera down while finding any shot between 5 or 6 or more rows of people between me and the stage. But with just 2 rows of heads and shoulders to get through, I was able to find a pretty good shot even tho it was still difficult, and limited the ability to alter the angle much to get in the other musicians or even all of Dylan’s guitar.
But that’s the nature of the beast. You do what you can to get whatever you can.
Thanks for subscribing. I’m going to be putting up a lot more material in the not too distant future, so hopefully you’ll find more things here to enjoy here soon.

Artur Artist Wow! You brought back so many details that I'd forgotten. I remember waiting in line for about 2+ hours, and staff making an announcement that there was a delay, but I had forgotten it was the heaters causing the problem. My brother-in-law & I ended up about 7 rows back, which was great, too. Thank you again for the great memory and the details! What a gift! I'm very sorry about your husband. I imagine this recording has a lot of sentimental value for you. I wondered if you knew that someone had tweeted a link to this video and in the process, paid you a lovely compliment. Here's what they wrote: "Do yourself a favor and take 3 minutes to watch this. Such a tender solo acoustic performance, perfectly matched by the talent of the person filming in the audience. I'm kind of in awe." - @dylyricus

Russ I’m glad the recollections helped, and thanks very much for sharing that tweeted comment. I hadn’t seen it. Also thanks for your condolences. Dylan tapes and other music all hold a lot of wonderful memories for me. Jon and I met in college in 1977 thru our shared passion for Dylan, and we were fierce music collectors throughout our nearly 30 years together. We were both at Brandeis together and saw Dylan’s Rolling Thunder show there separately before we met (I saw 4 others besides) But starting in 1978 we went to nearly all Dylan shows and lots of other concerts almost entirely together. We used to travel quite a bit back in the day - including trips to see Dylan in Australia, Japan, and England, as well as Canada and various places in the US. Altogether somewhere over 200 shows.
Jon audiotaped most concerts he went to, starting with Brandeis ‘75, and once we were together I helped out with getting stuff in and holding mics - til he got wearable ones.
Then in 1989 I decided to take a stab at videotaping, largely because Dylan’s facial expressions were so amazingly varied and compelling onstage, I wanted some kind of record better than my memory could manage. And I found it pretty addictive. Between ‘89 and 2004 I shot most or all of about 70 concerts. This was definitely one of the better ones, but most are at least decent. Meanwhile, I have thousands of audio and videotapes of an array of music Jon assembled, including a few hundred of his own audio recordings of concerts, tapes from other collectors, stuff he recorded off radio for years, and practically every TV broadcast of musical interest from about 1981 when we got our first VCR until 2007 - including musical performances from virtually every late night talk show for 25 years until he passed away in 2007.
After Jon died it got harder for me to go to concerts - both for sentimental reasons and personal circumstance. Our son was just 8 when Jon died so I’ve been busy raising him and finances got trickier. So I’ve only seen Dylan maybe 6 times in 13 years since, so I’m not inclined to distract myself from fullt enjoying those few opportunities by taping now. But after having had to move last year from my house to a smaller place, I have finally started trying to sort through the rest of the music collection so I can digitize a bunch and figure out what to do with it.
Luckily, the Dylan material is taken care of. After I started posting some on TH-cam another Dylan fan/videotaper/archivist who’s more “plugged in” than I am got hold of me and I agreed to send him digital copies of all my stuff, for eventual “release” on free torrent sharing sites, but best of all, it’s also all going along with the rest of his archives to become part of the permanent collection at the official Dylan Archive at the University of Tulsa. So now I can die easy some day, lol, knowing at least their future preservation is taken care of!0

Artur Artist Artur Artist That is amazing! I am so happy you can get help with the treasure trove of material, and that it will be part of the Tulsa collection. What a great tribute to you and Jon and your devotion to the music and the man! We will all benefit. Thank you! I'm in awe of the history you have with Bob shows. It's lazy for me to suggest you could write a book, but I know I could sit and listen to the stories you must have. I can obviously settle for more of these great videos of yours :) Thank you again!

Russ Funny you should mention that. Chris, the archivist I’m working with suggested it a while ago. He writes for Isis - the Dylan fanzine. And I actually am a freelance writer and editor by trade. Just the last few days I’ve pretty much made up my mind to get started on it so thanks, really, for that comment. How timely! I think it’s just the nudge I need to get started :)

Mama, You Been On My Mind
    WRITTEN BY: BOB DYLAN
Perhaps it’s the color of the sun cut flat
An’ cov’rin’ the crossroads I’m standing at
Or maybe it’s the weather or something like that
But mama, you been on my mind
I don’t mean trouble, please don’t put me down or get upset
I am not pleadin’ or sayin’, “I can’t forget”
I do not walk the floor bowed down an’ bent, but yet
Mama, you been on my mind
Even though my mind is hazy an’ my thoughts they might be narrow
Where you been don’t bother me nor bring me down in sorrow
It don’t even matter to me where you’re wakin’ up tomorrow
But mama, you’re just on my mind
I am not askin’ you to say words like “yes” or “no”
Please understand me, I got no place for you t’ go
I’m just breathin’ to myself, pretendin’ not that I don’t know
Mama, you been on my mind
When you wake up in the mornin’, baby, look inside your mirror
You know I won’t be next to you, you know I won’t be near
I’d just be curious to know if you can see yourself as clear
As someone who has had you on his mind 6 28 24 MM
