      Almost worth the novelty, but light metering will be annoying. It reminds me of the lomo gunpla kit I had. You build your own like a plastic model kit, but it works. Trapped at f16 and 1/60, it was still fun, but it burned through it's novelty pretty quickly.

    The shaking tends to hinder modern film because it is much thicker. It could spoil the image on original film slightly if you shuck it violently but given it was thinner and developed much faster, it didn’t hinder it too much, though Polaroid never recommended it.
    The shaking was actually common with old Polaroid peel apart film, people would shake the print back and forth to dry it off quicker, given the later integral characteristics of film from the 70s onwards, it didn’t do anything apart from make the consumer feel like it sped up the development time, when infact it did nothing at all, lol.

  • @JamieMPhoto
    @JamieMPhoto ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Great review. I love My SX-70, but a modern autofocus, manual controls without trickery, and a lens that compares very favorably to the SX-70s all make this a "will purchase" for me when I can justify the price. I'd be happier if the film came back down to 2019 prices, but that's kind of tough in the current economic and supply chain climate. At least the film is actually very solid and this camera will help maximize packs.

  • @Sabundy
    @Sabundy ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I just could never pull the trigger on that price for the canera. Not with 8 shots per pack at that price and with Polaroid's inconsistent film. But i applaud Polaroid for making a high end instant camera. I know its something that hard core enthusiasts have been clamouring for a long time.

    My brother has just started using a manual typewriter. It’s a Japanese made typewriter from 1970. It’s superb! He said he feels more in touch with his work because of the physical interaction with the page. I guess it’s the same with the camera that produces instant photographs. I think you’re more in touch with your work because when you press that button, the photograph is produced. There’s something satisfying about physical media. When the world stops turning, we can continue to take photographs.

  • @JeffDvrx

    I'm so stoked they're making these and I really hope they don't discontinue them in like a year or so. Sadly, it's been like two or three years since I used my sx-70 at all: a pack of sx-70 film is prohibitively expensive where I live - literally close to 10% my monthly income.
    Yes, my home country sucks ass and I can't wait to move out of it as soon as I can.

  • @Ruylopez778

    Heathrow security must be thick as shit if they can't understand that instant film isn't the same as negative film, but I'm not really surprised. Standard behaviour at airports is they just point at the 'film safe' logo regardless of what you're trying to tell them. What bothers me most is when they're stood around chatting and still act like they're too busy to 'check' something, when their job is literally checking what people are taking on the plane.

    • @ThePolaroid669
      @ThePolaroid669 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @Ruylopez778

      @@ThePolaroid669 I'd say the real Polaroid film from back in the day was likely more robust than Impossible, and the machines were weaker. But what the fuck do I know...?
      Here's what Polaroid say on their website:
      "In some airports, new X-ray machines have been installed that use a higher dose of radiation. More radiation = less saturation. Radiation zaps all the saturation from your undeveloped instant film. The result? Washed-out, foggy photos, that have a pinkish hue. Every airport has different security measures and X-ray machines, so it’s best to play it safe. We recommend reaching out to their customer service team to get the lowdown on how to take instant film through security. If in doubt, keep your camera and undeveloped film in your carry-on bag, and ask for a hand check with the attendant instead to avoid the X-ray machine."

    • @kingappia
      @kingappia ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I have a Instax Square and a pack of 10 films cost about 11€, so it makes 1.1€ per photo. It's more then print some 10x15 photos, but not that much and it's fun to see the picture "take life".
      Unfortunately shooting film with a 35mm/medium format camera is expensive, cause a 120 roll of Portra 160 goes up to 19€, which made 1.90€ per photo only to take it. Then you have to add the developing and the printing.

    • @SyntheticFuture
      @SyntheticFuture ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kingappia like I said "shooting film became very expensive".
      And although it's nice to see the prices being somewhat in line I'd much rather have cheaper 35mm film because 35mm camera's are just objectively better at taking pictures 😅

    After using fp100c-45 for the first time last week, and probably for the last time when i use the last 7 shots (because the only one i can find for sale is for 170CAD nearby) and also use a lomograflok, I will never not be happy with the instax/polaroid shot out film ever in my life after seeing the quality from peel/pack film. I would pay anything if any of these companies bring it back. Maybe competition is good, to make this style of instant film not look so bad. The film is ment to be used with a flash or else the colours end up quite warm and orange. Fujifilm knows that there is virtually no competition, therefore there is no reason to ever improve on the product. sorry for the all over the place rant, i just woke up.

      @@phillipbanes5484... sure, the original Polaroid company was absolutely amazing. They couldn't adapt and they went bankrupt, like the vast majority of film and film related companies. But knowing the effort it took to build the new company, recover/replace production methods and processes, etc etc... I honestly couldn't care less it's not an American company anymore. Sure, film used to be better, but it had to be redesigned because some of the original production methods and materials weren't available anymore because a) the supply chain ceased to exist; and/or b) those materials or their production methods were outright banned by law for environmental reasons. That's why the film is a bit thicker, which is why there's 8 shots per pack instead of the original 10. As for the cameras... the original Land cameras and the sx-70 were absolutely gorgeous and had proper glass lenses (the cheaper Land cameras did have plastic lenses though), there were a couple Spectra cameras thst were actually good, other than that polaroid kept churning absolute trash cameras from the 80s onwards.

    Had a bag of 35mm film once that I asked to be hand inspected. The TSA agent looked at it, threw it in a tub, and shoved it into the x-ray machine. Luckily it was ok.

    Whenever I see a polaroid brand camera, I always feel like they could have made so many better design choices, especially better manual controls, but wilfully make it garbage I guess to save costs? Despite the fact that they're so expensive anyway.

    “… but not totally unreasonable price.”
    I beg to disagree. That is about the same amount of money I payed for my D3200 plus zoom lens.
    And it is almost twice the price of what that same camera (including kit lens) will cost you now.
    So by buying the Polaroid, you get a whole lot less for a whole lot more money. The retro charm might make up for some of that, but definitely not for all of it.
