Anyone else notice how Sam backed away after asking "Since when do you call me Sammy"? Usually they stand so close to each other, but not here. Here Sam backs away. And that's when Dean knows something's wrong.
The saddest thing about this is that realistically this is exactly how they would have been if their mother had never been killed, and we never would have gotten one of the greatest brotherly relationships ever. ;_;
Well, we don't really know that for sure. This is a dream created by the djinn, it doesn't necessarily have any basis in reality. I don't think Dean and Sam would have been as close had they grown up in more ideal circumstances, it's true, but I don't think Dean would have inevitably been such an asshole to his brother.
This was a really well written episode. The death of their mother not only threw the brothers into a life of hunting monsters, where they had to depend on each other for their very lives (and this produced a bond like that between soldiers who've seen combat together), but in a cerrtain sense it probably also made Dean a better man, which also brought them closer. With their father out hunting, leaving the boys alone for extended periods, Dean had to step up and partly raise Sam like a parent would, which forced him to mature much faster than he probably ever would have without that added responsibility. In a "better" reality, where Mary Winchester was not killed by Azazel, the brothers had nothing to bring them close together, had very little in common, and their personalities were just too different for them to come together without that tragedy to force them to. And without the duty of looking after his younger brother and having to be responsible for him, Dean grew up to be a bit of an immature, irresponsible jerk, which created another wedge between them.
This was sad. But probably one of my favorite episodes. Just beautiful story writing. Though Dean wanted this life for he and Sam, had everything been done a different way from hunting for ghosts and monsters he wouldn't be close with his baby brother. Sam said it in the fantasy world "we don't really have that much in common?" In their current world they had their dead parents in common, hunting in common, jamming to the same music in the car in common. Hunting brought them close. Had Dean's dream came true, he wouldn't damn near recognize Sam let alone call him 'Sammy?'. Dean worked in his garage and the script hinted to him working on cars for a living or something and Sam went to law school. They wanted different things. Its relatable. Sometimes things happen for a reason. Their moms death is what lead them to saving innocent people and its messed up but its the truth
@@thruthemotions that was a fantasy world which Dean never asked for,deep down he wanted to be a rockstar and if he left John and Sam he would become one, or at least a singer in a bar something he always wished for which no one could take it away!he didn't have the infected blood and by putting down his father's words no vessel for any angel and in the end a life far better than Sam's
@@altinaykor364 he would have also been a jerk and a drunk and might have ended up dead anyway with a string of failed relationships to his name ( given that he sleeps with his brothers date) . Sam gave him stability and something to live for beyond himself.
You know what? I firmly believe that this is the main reason why Dean decided to come back in the end. Everything seemed perfect, he had a job, a home, his mother was alive… But something was still missing, something that made impossible for him to stay. His relationship with his baby brother, the one person in the whole world that he loved more than anything else. He can’t live in a world where they’re so distant from one another, not just physically but emotionally too. Dean had to choose between a perfect, safe, stable life without his brother and a messed up, chaotic and dangerous life with Sam by his side. And he chose Sam. He will always choose Sam.
This scene is so sad, I think that's been well documented, but just sayin' I feel excessively British today, and NO SAM DON'T MAKE IT AWKWARD NO. NO NO NO. I think my internal organs are shrivelling.
My God was Dean a jerk to Sam in this world. Lol, stealing his prom date? Come on Dean, that's low even for you. And to think Sam still helped him when he was in trouble.

Ikr?? That really made me even more sad. Cause Dean, the real Dean, has such a genuinely strong moral compass and even if he does/says some shady stuff, he wouldn’t do that to Sammy, not in the real world. But then I guess what they’re saying is that, without all of that happening to them, they would be different. They maybe wouldn’t be as good people as they are (or maybe at least Dean). This whole episode makes me so sad. Damn :(
Somehow, I feel like I would act like Sam did in this scene if my parent's first son ever dared to call me "Brother". I just wouldn't accept him as such.
This was supernatural at its best! I know a lot of ppl love castiel but to me it was the end of the good times when they introduced angels to the plot. Just idk it went downhill from there.
So basically without that awful incident with Mary, Sam and Dean would have been the Salvatores except a bit more estranged though 💔😂 A bit funny but trageic as well especially when you watch this epsiode followed by the 2 episodes after 💔🥺
"Since when do you call me Sammy?"

Well quoting Sam's words: "I'm glad we do" lol I'm glad their mother died and they went hunting together
I often wondered why the djinn didn't give Dean a perfect relationship with Sam, considering it's supposed to be a dream world....
@@blueskybelyr maybe to make it more realistic?

this episode was one of the saddest in my opinion. made me cry so much
