This is honestly one of the most painful scenes in the entire series for me because I honestly wasn't sure what I wanted Dean to do either. It was so sad, because I knew Dean was going to choose to leave, but it still hurt watching him torn between the life where he is happy and safe and the life where has responsibilities and saves lives.
Sam: "Dean! Oh God. Come on wake up. Wake up god damn it. Hey...hey." Dean: "Auntie Em. There's no place like home" Sam: "Thank god. I thought I lost you for a second" Dean: "You almost did" My heart just drops each time I watch this. It really pulls at the heart strings. It shows just how much the Winchester's need each other. It shows just how important Sam is to Dean.
You know what kills me most about this moment, this episode? Is that I know if Sam; the real Sam, wasn't alive and needing his brother, Dean would have stayed. Beause by early season 2 he begins to reveal just how severely depressed and suicidal he is. If there was no Sammy waiting for him in the real world, I think he would have stayed in that fantasy and let himself die....
But also this is everything dean had and will ever want his got a family and Sam will always be safe this is a perfect world for dean yet he gives it all up for Sam and dean can tell the real Sam what it was like but he will never truly understand how much dean just gave up
Okay I am definitely a Dean girl and this scene just breaks my heart. But to be honest, its Jared's acting that makes me cry. The way he keeps a small smile when he's trying to convince his brother to stay and the way he sounds so relieved when Dean wakes up at the end. It's a tear jerker.
Before he stabs himself dean takes one last look at his mom and then looks at Sam and says he's sorry. 15 seasons and this is my favorite episode, it was so emotional and if you think about it it sums up the whole series, Dean being selfless and sacrificing his happiness for Sam and for people's lives, and Sam having to deal with so much loss and deserveing so much better.
What feels really tragic to me is that even in this world, Dean doesn't really fit in. Because his memories of life are different than the others, and he has spent his life being trained for battle, and stuff.
Dean’s idea of a “perfect life” is one where his family basically views him as a drunken loser and his brother resents him. 🥺 Someone help this poor boy.
It wasn’t actually his perfect life, it was just the life the djin created in his mind of what “would have happened” if his mother never died. It was just that one wish that was dean’s fantasy, according to what he says in the end.
the first time I watched this episode and he went "what if all this is in my head" I was like: NO WAY!!! lol really the whole episode long I believed the freaking djinn really made his wish come true... silly me... but hey, the thing with dying in a dream that wakes you up is exactly what they used in Inception... well, obviously, Supernatural was first!! ;)
In the end, I don't think staying was quite as tempting to Dean as everyone thinks. Doubtless there was some temptation, after all who _wouldn't_ want to lay down a heavy burden and live a peaceful life? But I don't think it was as tempting as one might think, because deep down, Dean would always know that he _wasn't_ living a peaceful life, that none of it was real, that the woman telling him she loved him was an illusion, and so were any children he had with her. Moreover, by staying, he would also have been abandoning his brother Sam in the real world, all while knowing that something powerful and evil was planning to use Sam for some unspeakable purpose, and it was awful enough that their own father told him better to kill Sam as a last resort rather than let that happen. I don't think Dean could ever have let that happen, and would thus never have given in to this temptation.
The girl I love is seeing someone else. There’s evidence but no direct proof. My head tells me she’s cheating but my heart doesn’t want to believe it. I don’t want to know for sure because I love her so much and I don’t want to believe it. But apart of me knows. I keep watching this clip cause I can relate so much. I don’t want to wake up from this dream. But I’m dying inside. I’m trying to wake up from this dream, but my heart is so heavy. It’s so hard to let go😔
This was the very first episode of Supernatural I saw.... its why I fell in love with the show and Dean (and Jensen). I spent I don't know HOW long trying to find the background piano song but I still can't find it.....I don't know if I want to tho..it might take the effect of the episode away.
Question: wouldn't Sam still have his powers? Because even if Mary hadn't died, the demon would still have dribbled his blood into Sam's mouth, wouldn't he? I mean, I get this is a wish, so everything's perfect, but still.
was watching this on my lunch break at work last night but the episode is an hour long and my lunch is 30 min long at least i get to see some of the ending now - thanks :) by the way can anyone tell me do they kill the genie? does the knife with the lamb's blood do it?
yep yep, it works (: bit of a plot twist though I'm pretty sure it's dean that stabs it... this is one of my absolute favorite episodes. It really stresses the importance of the brothers' relationship relatively early in the series and I love love loVE it
Right! The composer was definitely evoking Spiegel im Spiegel, but notable differences are that this song is in 4/4 (not 3/4) and the piano arpeggios are going down not up.

You're right
"Why is it our job to save everyone? Haven't we done enough?" Now why did you have go and punch me in the feels, Sam? :(
“Thought I lost you for a second.”
“You almost did.”
😭😭❤️❤️
3:25 when he says "Why is it our job to save everyone" Get's me every time. Sad when he says it.

Shut up wimp stop crying over a TV show be a grown up
@@Mikemyers2948 the reaction that a person has with a television series has nothing to do with that
The part where Sam gets close and asks Dean "Why is it our job to save everyone...Haven't we done enough?" Is my wallpaper.
That would have been so tempting to just stay there, & be happy.
Except here he doesn't have a close relationship with his brother. It's not perfect.
This episode was so emotional
It really was
I think this is the most beautiful scene of all Supernatural.
that score is so haunting and thought provoking. It goes perfect with scene.
This and Bobby's Death are the feels of the series

This part IS extremely heart-wrenching. That's why it's one of my favorite episodes.
the one time sam's puppy dog eyes failed to change dean's mind...
Just because he knew that wasn't his Sam
LOL I just saw Mary Winchester on a commercial!!! LOL I laughed and screamed, "MARY!! YOU'RE ALIVE!!!???"
🤫
I remember watching this for the first time and just SOBBING. This whole episode is just amazing.
Dean’s idea of a “perfect life” is one where his family basically views him as a drunken loser and his brother resents him.

Even though its not the right time of the year, I'm going to say it because this was uploaded on the exact day: HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENSEN!!!
Dean really wanted to stay!! You can see the pain and longing in his eyes! 💝😢
every episode should have a great scene like this in it, of any show.
One of my favorite epsiodes
@DystopiaKing the ending to this episode was even more heart-wrenching,

I cried during this episode
I think, in reality, he might have wished that it was more something along the lines of Sam having a better life.
I was crying watching this.
his eyes are so beautiful! (Deans!)

So did she cheat?
Are you ok? What happened?
Sam: Why is it our job to save everyone? Haven't we done enough?
Wow I hope to see this episode soon
Spiegel" by Christopher Lennertz the piano music
I saw the animated episode of this. I think the end played out much better in the animated series. but this is one of my favorite episodes :)

Mickey29Stiles the song is spiegel im spiegel
@@ticklemeelmo8105thank you so much! This song is beautiful
OMG why am I crying???
Sam: "Why is it our job to save everyone? Haven't we done enough?"
Ask that same question again in 13 years, the answer will still be NO. 😊
I cant find this music!...
My favorite episode... Also Jensen favorite one he said it in LA in 2008!
the music is so beautiful it makes me cry!! lol
One of my favorite epsiodes
Are seasons 3 and 4 better than the first two seasons?
No, they are not. The show peaked in the 2nd season. Still great through season 5 though. Everything after that is completely unnecessary
The sound of blood dripping in the background squicks me out so much
thank you, you were right
I can see it you so much
I'll give anything for a dream like that right now
@mathewsmith1275 After watching the episode, I tried to find the music, but had no luck. I just play it by ear.
Comparing this to the original Spiegel im Spiegel, it was definitely inspired by that work, but it isn't the same.
I am pretty sure it is a composer called Arvo Pärt - Spiegel im Spiegel
Guess *heart lost me for a second]heart always did
Question: wouldn't Sam still have his powers? Because even if Mary hadn't died, the demon would still have dribbled his blood into Sam's mouth, wouldn't he? I mean, I get this is a wish, so everything's perfect, but still.
Coral Roper no because the demon came because Mary made a deal to save John , since John is dead of natural reasons she never visited the demon
was watching this on my lunch break at work last night but the episode is an hour long and my lunch is 30 min long

Does anyone now the piece played during this scene, or the one at the end?
The music in this scene is so beautiful Anyone know where I could find it on its own?
Spiegel im Spiegel the piano music
@silentangel666 I think it's 'spiegel im spiegel'
Oh Dean, and Sam.... Poor Jack
Right! The composer was definitely evoking Spiegel im Spiegel, but notable differences are that this song is in 4/4 (not 3/4) and the piano arpeggios are going down not up.
anybody know the songname!?!? DX
its frkn killing me!
It's a version of spiegel im spiegel (jic you never found out)
does anyone know the piano musi in the background
it sounded like it to me but slightly different
i think it sounds a bit like spiegal en spiegal but slightly different
