@@CouchEconomyTX In the words of my son's late great tuba teacher, Dr Owen Metcalf "Tubas are the best people you'll ever find. You build a music program on your tubas." I've found that to be the case all my life. Yeah, these are some nasty trumpets, but tubas are the great people in music - selfless team players. Keep playing the big horn.
As a trumpet player, I appreciate Gordon's opening remarks to this video! Spent a number of years in the "back row" and LOVED them all! .....and Bergeron is, and always has been "The Beast!"
I've always greatly appreciated Bob Summers' contribution to the Big Phat Band. His sound is totally dark and un-commercial; in stark contrast to the rest of the trumpets. I love his melodic motives, and bebop notes over the crazy high notes and 16th/32nd notes. He's truly a classic guy.
let me tell you, it's a pain in the ass 😭 I'm here trying to absorb some talent through osmosis before my band's performance of this this Wednesday, and those 16th note passages are killing me 😂
Man! I cried because how good they are. T This is my favorite song and I listen to it all the time everyday. Thanks for the inspiration guys to definitely keep playing trumpet!!
I really liked Wayne’s playing, the dude on the far right and the dude on the far left!!! They both have a great tone, great soloing and controlled upper register without making the trumpet sound like a toy.
Long time listener to Bob Summers. Since he came on Maynard's band around '74. Always one of the coolest Jazz soloists even if he rarely if ever ventures above High C. Takes a committed musician to stick to that which he does best. As many cats who don't have such monstrous upper registers tend to give up the racket. Either that or try to keep up with the screamers and eventually lose their chops. Such as the Great Freddie Hubbard did.
Hi, Wayne! I just heard about some health problems you had & that you feel much better now. So relieved! Looking forward to your wonderful playing for many, many years. your fan, John.
This music, and this big band culture is completely foreign to younger generations who have been raised on rock guitar bands and talentless rap groups. They can't understand this music, or even hear it properly. They view this music as something their quaint old grandparents listened to. To Gen X,Y and Millennials, pop music has to be vocal, self-indulged, rebellious, deafening, sexual, vulgar, and anti-social, led by stars who have roots in narcissistic drug-dealing and gun violence. Goodwin's band culture is born of the 1940's dance bands when people had fun, dancing together in large, well-lit dance halls, doing jitterbug and acrobatic steps. Innocent by today's standards, yet extremely entertaining and fun, especially when the audience became part of the entire musical experience. Thank God and Gordon Goodwin for keeping this fantastic American tradition of great music alive in 2021 !!
haha this makes me laugh, i'm in high school and it's great to see the war continues between brass and woodwinds even as adults! Saxophones are kick-A by the way
Is nobody gonna talk about how perfect their squeezes were
that's exactly what i was thinking
It’s actually insane
Drxppie Jayy A squeeze is a quick glissando upwards so it sounds like you’re literally squeezing the note
@@adamh951 no one asked
@@AngelOrtiz-zy3bm someone did but they deleted their comment ig
Now these are musicians that still know how to have fun
Underrated comment! :D
I wish i was a trumpet in a big band
Sadly I’m just a tuba in a small high school jazz ensemble

It’s called trumpet players
@3:39
"Mr. Bergeron, do I have permission to use the plunger?"
"Sure, but let me smell it first."
AttackTurkey1 3:39
lol what if the got it straight from the bathroom
Pretty sure it's a trombone plunger and thus not wayne's :)

Way fun.
The unison lines are perfectly in tune!!!!

more like willie murillo😌
I caught Rhapsody in blue in that solo!!!!!!!!
TrueScore 5:42 I thought it was just me
he always does it. I think it was something the section or gordon decided to keep after he did it in the recording.
And the Sweet Home Chicago quote?
@@nicholasveracruz511love the fact Wayne signals the next guy to take it up the octave
it's amazing how great a song sounds when they're having fun
absolutely smashing comment justin. keep it up.
8:06 and 9:00 the trumpets play those 16th notes so clean!! It's incredible!
That passage is truly insane :-) Insanely good!

Tighter than my shoelaces when I ride a rollercoaster
Trumpet players, gotta love 'em. I know some pretty high chop guys. These gentlemen look like they are having fun.
its songs like these that remind me why i play this and not anything else :) GOD BLESS THE BACK ROW
I love that the plunger mute just flies in at 3:33.
😂😂😂
4:43 a subtle mouthpiece switch?
He switched to his lead piece XD
J T some mouthpieces help with different things
Kinda like different mutes
Good catch)

Bob Summers calms them kids down...since the 70'. What a solid musician.
Met most of them attended their first jazz camp. These guys are absolutely at the top of their game all the time
Bobs like: "nope...not going to do those dumb visuals"
Never tire of this song!🎉
Love all these Guys! Gordon has lots of skill in that back row!
i play alto sax and and all for it but that trumpet quartet was wickedly awsomeive. 10 stars man **********

This song was my favorite out of all the songs they played at delta college jazz festival 2009 last night.
Estos músicos son formidables., puro talento

I’m very fortunate to love and listen and play this music consistently despite having no upbringing in this kind of music.
@@NotBroihonit’s true tho, I don’t understand how the rest of my generation loves it
Who the hell gave this thumbs down?????
The jealous people
Woodwinds
Classical trumpets
Probably the flutes
People who can’t play high
No one can beat wayne in a range battle. Wayne is a boss.
@trumpetguy3039 He's got the "FLUTES SUCK" sign running on it :-D
Anyone notice Bob quotes lee Morgan's solo from moanin?
This is just AMAZING.
Too awesome for words. Bravo!
5:31 I don't know any names other than Wayne's but look at the dudes face next to him lmao
Rip I just read the description, name would be Willie.
Playing this in my hs jazz band on bass trombone and holy hell its fun
Sounds terrific!
@trumpetguy3039 i saw them last week, and he did the same thing with the iPhone saying "Flutes suck" lol wayne knows how to have fun
That they do. Trumpets for life
7:00 LOL, "I'm not done yet."
I have never seen such happy spirited people :)
They are all freakin good.
I keep hearing the Ed Edd n Eddy intro everynow and then and it is because of the same key
Agreed. They have some sick unison parts

Saxophones are the worst, honey 😂
wish I could see what the sax section players expression when they're sitting down!
Im playing this in my jazz band. (I play trumpet)
Wow! Shades of the late 60s and the Tiajuana Brass. So we need some Sergio Mendes here too.
I practice along them to get better
I don't see how their chops aren't tired as much as replay the solo section!
wow - unreal ! so good
Flutes
I'm still curious as to what the guy's phone said. I could only make out "--Flute."
it reads "FLUTES SUCK!!!"
ok thanks for clarifying
last note = killer
Oh my lord the rhapsody in blue quote
LOVE the Clifford Brown-- Jordu quote at 5:12
@SilentSnare ya i'm a freshman and have gotten a second C it takes practice to hold it out and get that good i hope i do :)
Love the chords at 7:50 and on!!!
I love how gordon kinda pisses off the trumpet section by putting in a flute/ piccolo soli for this tune!
willie had the best stylised tremeolo ive ever heard
Nice brass!! Ya wanna bet they have Drum Corps experience??
GOLD !! 👍👍👍
