  • In this video entitled, Landscape and Woodland Photography Aviemore, I capture, well, just like it says on the tin!
    This is the final day's photography from a recent road trip I took. I ventured to Aviemore. I was lucky enough to capture this magnificent beast. Plus, I managed to grab a few half-decent (even though I say so myself) Landscape and woodland Images.
    In case you were wondering, the aim of my trip was to capture snowy scenes. Unfortunately, by the time I got there, the snow has already melted on the lower ground. It was still plentiful on the higher ground but I wasn't prepared for hiking. It was the last day of my Scotland trip after all 😁
    Anyways, I had a fantastic day shooting and as mentioned earlier I think I managed to grab a few images I'm happy to call my own!
    Enjoy the video and feel free to leave a comment.
    A MASSIVE THANK YOU as always to Gary Beaumont my wingman and for creating the amazing drone footage xx

    Love the long exposure with the tree stump in the foreground. I'm also always surprised how civilised the British woods seem to be. Where I am, in the Australian summer, I see enough Tiger snakes on the paths to persuade me to not contemplate wandering off track into the scrub where I can't see them!

    Hi Gary, Thanks for another brilliant video. I loved the long exposure photograph with the remains of that tree as foreground in the loch. I also liked the woodland photograph with that one tree that had the very green bark. I wasn't so sure about one of the two images with the S-curve sand bar. I thought the one with the ducks worked better than the one with the long exposure, where I thought the water provided, perhaps, a bit too much negative space and made the image unbalanced. It wasn't so clear to me what the subject was, whereas with the ducks, they appeared to be swimming to the distant mountains and after seeing the ducks, the eye followed where they might be headed on up to the mountains. Without the ducks, it was harder for the eye to get across the water. Of course, this is entirely subjective, and I know not everyone will agree with me.

    Very good photography Mr Gough. Just goes to show how difficult woodland photography is when nature does not provide that beautiful canvas that we expect and take for granted. I have a point of concern regarding those filters, and I wonder if you share my concern. I have noticed ( in watching other people's videos too ) that quite bit of force is necessary to insert those filters in the tight holders. Now these would not cause any problem with older type primes or even IF zooms as the barrels are reasonably rigid, but a lot of people use them on extending zooms or even primes that extend quite a bit during focusing. I am quite sure this will cause barrel droop and misalignment of the optics in the long run. In any case, best wishes for the new year.

    • @GaryGough
      @GaryGough  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steve, I prefer to use filters. Sometimes, I blend multiple exposures. Remember, I teach a lot and therefore, it's important for students to see the results immediately. If you choose not to use filters and blend instead, then that's fine also 👍👍

    You’re an old fart like I am (no disrespect meant), so how did you get comfortable not using the viewfinder? You must not use it at all since you don’t even have the rubber eye cup. I always feel like I may be missing something, be it in composition or some technical thing, if I don’t look through the viewfinder. That last woodland spot was, in the words of another landscape photographer, quite juicy!
