Ok, so, let's take a moment to examine that OT goal, shall we? Nurse dumps the puck in, Hanifin gets there first and under pressure from McDavid, makes a soft pass up the board towards Gaudreau. Gaudreau sees Draisaitl also going for the puck, and then pulls up and GOES FURTHER UP THE BOARDS! As if Drai was going to just send the puck along to him. Draisaitl, now with 15 feet of uncontested ice thanks to Johnny's generosity, makes a little pass to McDavid, who skates to right between the circles and beats Markstrom cleanly on the glove side. Realistically, Markstrom probably shoulda had that one, but my goodness JOHNNY WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!?! I know everyone but me hates +/-, but here's a fun stat for you. In the regular season Johnny Gaudreau has a career +85. In the playoffs the career number is -10. Just this season he has a +64 for the regular season and -2 in the playoffs. And this play right here is the prime example why. I get cheating a little for offense when you've got a teammate in a battle, but Johnny, you're the only guy around, you have to at least make him work a little.
Good analysis. I do believe as a winger it's your job to get out of the zone (with the puck) first. That was his job there - not anyone else's since the pass was already coming from the D behind the red line. As the commentary says in the replay, it's a turnover. That is what it is. Sure the centre is there to help if need be, but that implies that you are tied down yourself as a winger first - wasn't the case here; and with the centre's job occupied with Draisaitl, it gives McDavid enough time to fire off the shot from the slot. However, credit to Draisaitl on the play there, he was ready to battle for the puck, took it, and with relatively little room (or momentum) to manoeuvre, spins around around on the spot and gets it on the tape to McDavid. It was a crafty play by Draisaitl, let's be honest, but it was indeed first an error that led to a turnover by Gaudreau.
@@j.flux87 absolutely, Draisaitl made a good play. How he handled the situation is pretty much textbook top 6 power foward stuff. Credit to McDavid too, without his forechecking pressure Hanifin would've had time to make a cleaner pass that doesn't require a board battle to skate away with. And maybe Drai wins the battle and assist a game winner anyway, but the decision by Johnny to not engage in that board battle at all is just not what you need from a professional hockey player in the playoffs, nevermind OT of an elimination game.
Edmonton is Alberta's capital and is the place where the Stanley Cup is coming to. Thank you Oilers, thank you Edmonton... Gracias a todos los jugadores de los Oilers, son nuestros heroes.. Gracias Oilers, Gracias Edmonton.. Totally awesome..
this series has been so wild, with so many goals but happy Edmonton came out on top. as a Toronto fan, I love seeing Hyman do so well in this playoff series, was a really exciting one to watch.
This is funny to me because I started following the Oilers in 2001 and the Flames took a backseat to the Dallas Stars as the most hated team in Edmonton back then BY FAR lol. I still hate Modano, Hatcher, Hogue, and Belfour haha. But I don't mind them now, Dallas had a great playoff atmosphere against Calgary and it seems like a really cool city
this series was so electric, the vibe you got from every hockey fan in alberta was something else truly. something we will never get back until another battle of alberta
One Flames fan trolled me because they said Flames dominated game 1 and I said they didnt. You give up 6 goals you didnt dominate anyone no matter what your offense does. He got so upset/trigged AFTER a Flames win. Imagine how he is after 4 straight losses. He needed professional help badly. I have never seen anyone so upset after their team winning a game off something that stupid. Like your NFL team giving up 50 points and telling them they didnt dominate. I pray everyone is safe who comes in contact with him and that he gets the help he needs.
I agree with your game 1 assessment; that was very much up for grabs as every other game this series save for game 3. That was as close as you get to domination on the part of Edmonton. The fact that Edmonton scored an average of 5 goals per game against Calgary should tell that person something...
We'll, I'm a Flames fan but anyone that says there's no way a team can win a series is either new or a bozo. Any team can win any series. It happens every year, how often do the presidents trophy winners win the cup. The only thing certain about NHL playoffs is uncertainty. That's why they have to play the games.
I said it after Game 3 and I'll say it again, it PAINS me as a Stars fan to see how average Markstrum was overall in this series. I know that Edmonton has a better offense than the stars but wow, seeing the highlights of the goals Edmonton scored were all very savable shots for Markstrum. Ge saved every single one of those against Dallas for the most part!
The problem wasn't Markstrom the defense kept letting Kane, Leon, Conor and Hyman coast to the slot alone while the rest of the team watched the puck carrier. They did it over and over. Markstrom was rattled because his defense were playing like complete amateurs.
The Oilers play so much faster than Dallas, to be honest. Watching that series was like watching grass grow compared to the LA Oilers series. LA is going to have a very, very good team in a year or two. Couldn’t have been a better lesson to the Oilers. Fast, tight checking and hard hitting right from the first dropped puck. LA played at 100% intensity every minute of every game. Much tougher team to beat than Calgary.
In the 30 years of watching and saddly routing for Calgary the only thing consistent about them is them is a total lack of effort in the play-offs. I have no solution in mind other than to relocate the team , perhaps a new city might bring them some luck
@@beafus67 They could always return to sender...🤭🤭 (move back to Atlanta) ...on second thought, no, don't relocate. Let Calgary keep the Flames, I like them better over there. 😁😁
Connor McDavid deserves this. Is probably the best hockey player on the planet and deserves a great playoff run and hopefully a Stanley Cup. Unfortunately they're going to have to get past Colorado and that ain't going to be no easy task
I think is the Oilers first time making it to the conference finals since 2006 when they went all the way and faced the hurricanes in the Stanley Cup finals
Wouldn't it be something if these two teams made it to the finals for a rematch? The thing I remember most about that series (okay second to Bergeron taking out Rolli) was just how great and nice Canes fans were. No pettiness or trash talk or disrespect either way just to great fan bases having a lot of fun together and enjoying their teams. Oilers actually adopted tailgate parties from that run. That NFL style tailgate party wasn't something we'd experienced before.
I mean i will be defo showing my kiddo(s) what was it like when McDavid and Draisaitl played together. This is just pure genius(es) ice-hockey. Love it.
As an Oiler Fan I have to say I know how that call feels. It was like in 2017 game 7 of the second round when Talbots pad was being held in the crease by kesler so he couldn't make the kick save, and upstairs still allowed it. That being said it was 3-1 series. Flames blue 3 solid leads in this series 2 of which oilers won. 4 goals were scored in 1 min this game. Likelihood of Flames winning that series was slim to none.
As a habs fan i love the Oilers its nice to see McDavid and Leon finally getting what they deserve... also good for Kulak , 2nd year in a row for stanley cup final? Would be nice

The thing about that this disallowed goal is that that puck was actually going in before Coleman touched it, all Coleman had to do is keep that player of Edmonton from knocking that puck away from going in but he tried to kick it in and Coleman was looking at the puck so the refs assume he knew where to put his foot. Coleman's left foot got around the Edmonton's players foot. I had to watch this replay more times to finally come to a conclusion.

4:15 - Johnny Gaudreau's final goal as a Calgary Flame & final playoff goal.
Love the crowd roar on the McDavid OT goal. Well done Oilers fans!
Yeah noted that as well. Like WTH Gaudreau just stood there with no attempt to back check.
1 year later it’s still awesome to watch
What a game from Leon…
I’m so happy for McDavid, love to see him smile.

As a Canadian. I want them to win. But I feel tampa bay is going to win the whole thing 😔

The OT goal was easily the most euphoric time watching hockey for me
I love that the Flames fans told me there was no way Edmonton would win this series... well, isn't that ironic?
Feels so good
Fr. "Flames in 4" my ass 🤣
Gretzky had Flames beating Oilers. Poor sucker.
It was a good game to watch, i never view the small window because I dont want to see who won, I was on the edge of my seat
The more I watch it, the more and more it looks like a distinct kicking motion by Coleman on the disallowed goal for the Flames
Старз вообще кладбище талантливых вратарей!Куда дели Худобина?Где Холтби?
@@orwellknew9112 It took seven to beat LA and only five to beat Calgary.
and the Stars again wasted a great performance of a keeper in the playoffs...

I remember that series...went all 7 games before Carolina ultimately prevailed.
