    Damn there should be 4.2 million subscribers to this channel instead of 42k. This channel is a hidden diamond covering drag racing which is some of the best clean fun that God has gifted humanity...

    Back in the late 1970s, I remember when Billy pulled into the Funny Car team parking area At the Gator's with that 18 wheeler,. All those funny car teams would just look at that rig with their mouth open. He was something back then. Way ahead of his time.

    Another hit outta the ballpark for CompetitionPlusTV . What a interesting life Billy is living. When is NHRA ever gonna get it right. The bullshit with conflict of interest for a racers sponsor vs NHRA corp sponsors is crazy. And I know this has happened multiple times at different tracks with different owners and drivers. When everybody is allowed to play (meaning all sponsors) then everybody benefit$ from it. And more exposure for the NHRA and Sport it self. What could have been is what a lot of us is wondering? Billy is a great businessman and is a helluva great funny car driver!

    • @hughobrien4139
      @hughobrien4139 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree. I’ve witnessed the NHRA wipe out several racing teams sponsorships.
      One they outright wouldn’t allow because it was an Air Force sponsorship that could compete with the Army recruiting.
      Other teams noticed that their sponsorship disappeared after the NHRA was made aware, then the sponsorship mysteriously reemerged in favor of an established team.
      Then the monopoly they have-had with the CTA. Blocking any outside attempts or competition.

      I agree. Clearly, one of the things Billy Meyer has done is try to bring to drag racing what has worked in other racing series, such as big transporters, corporate sponsors, tracks with suites, and nice restrooms for the fans. Sadly, NHRA and drag racing are just not that big of a deal anymore...lower and lower attendance, no good TV deal, etc.

    Really enjoyed this episode. Learned that I had little idea of Billy's accomplishments and contributions to our great sport. Unfortunately I was one of those who assumed that he came from a wealthy family and was handed his success on a silver platter. Couldn't have been more mistaken. Thanks for this enlightening series!

    I was never a fan of Billy Meyer growing up in this sport and as a funny car fan it was always Raymond Beadle for me but watching this as an adult and still in the sport today Billy Meyer was and still is a bad ass much respect for the man

    Concrete for the win! Asphalt is good for bicycles :) Kudos for bringing up all tracks nationwide to a higher level. He's right to mention the toilet facilities. You'd never bring a gf to an event back in the day, just for the fact the toilet facilities were pretty ripe smelling at the end of the weekend. The Texas Motorplex is an awesome facility. Also classic Snake being bitter. He was the perfect foil for 1970s drag racing :)
