Homelander's son's reaction at the end of s3 was seriously the darkest thing that series has done, and it's been consistently bleak. Agree that that actor needs some serious props for that scene.

Every scene I really wanted to see in Thor: Love and Thunder happened offscreen.
Gorr murdering gods across the universe, including him killing Falligar and fighting Sif, Jane’s initial experience becoming Thor, Valkyrie struggling with being king and actually doing that “finding a queen” thing they kept talking about in the marketing, literally a single actual scene with Thor and the Guardians that didn’t feel about as substantive as what we saw in the trailers, and way more development for Gorr and his daughter.
Maybe have Gorr’s daughter have any sort of dialogue in the beginning of the movie? Maybe start the whole movie with a scene of Gorr and his daughter praying to their God to no avail as their society collapses, and we see how she is going hungry and he can’t do anything to save her, so we have that much more motivation for him!
Maybe the movie didn’t feel like they needed to belabor the point that a little girl dying of starvation despite her father’s best efforts is a bad thing, but at least give me enough where I’m going to remember that character throughout the movie without Gorr telling me halfway through to reinvest me.

I love Korg. Korg is a funny character. Love & Thunder made me hate Korg. Textbook "too much of a good thing"
He's a guy who works best in small doses, but here he's in damn near every scene with Thor and I don't remember him having a single line of dialogue that wasn't unecessary exposition or an increasingly unfunny joke/random non-sequitur. It was so grating. The MCU gets semi-valid criticism for overuse of quips, this was that times a thousand. Its absolutely baffling to take such a fun character and make him the single most obnoxious thing in the entire film. Taika has shown masterful balance between comedy and seriousness in other films, so i don't know why he threw it out the window here.

There were so many reviews put out before I saw Thor, I was expecting it to be overbearing with the comedy. I kept seeing that emotional moments were undercut by poor comedy but in my experience it seemed the movie was able to hold the moment well. Some jokes didn’t land for me but every marvel movies comedy is just alright. This movie is no exception with its jokes. There was a lot of fun creative action scenes. The fight at the gods stage felt the most rushed. It didn’t really accomplish much for the story. I enjoyed that the main goal of the heroes was in part, saving people. As the MCU has grown heroes doing something as simple as saving people has become less become.

The way the writers just let him play himself in the show is amazing, and it comes off so organically and real throughout the entire show he never misses a single beat even as the show starts leaning away from the comedy and getting more dramatic. On top of that his dramatic scenes are still so good, whenever he had to be intimidating, or compassionate even it always came off as very genuine. RIP Tony Sirico.

Normally I agree with Maso and I think he’s way on the mark here. I think it’s very strange that we never really go into Gorr’s morality. Like Thor has a conflict with gods being lazy and greedy and then attempts to kill a god but Gorr is bad for killing a big gold guy who’s strangling him to death? Especially since Thor 1-3 are to varying degrees about the consequences of nepotism of Asgard you would think the discussion would be stronger since it was already built into Thor’s core. The movie is too rushed to really go into much, especially since the counter between nepotistic gods and Jane making peace with her mortality could’ve meshed. It’s a lot of ideas that go well together and the editing and pacing just… fumble the catch

When I was walking into the theater I thought it would be an interesting concept if gorr was the protagonist of this movie if most of it followed him on his journey and he comes across mostly bad gods a good god here and there and have thor trying to find a way to stop his righteous goal also Thor’s best moments are when he’s not trying to be funny this whole movie it feels like a guy hiding behind humor due to fear and ptsd which I guess he is kinda is but I don’t think that’s what taika was going for and the whole movie just tried being two different films the whole time

It’s weird, Korg was my favourite character in Ragnarok and least favourite in Love and Thunder. Don’t know how they Flanderised him so quickly
The movie was OK at best. Some really good sequences (no spoilers, but basically the artsy scenes with Gorr) and stellar acting, but really boring and dull for the most and I agree with Mason, the GN’R tracks were just supplements to awesomeness for the scenes they were used.
I’m checked out and done with Marvel after Guardians 3. Might check out Spider-Man movies because I like the character. The glut of Marvel, Star Wars and now Pixar movies from Disney is sullying the positive reputation each of them had. It’s totally quantity over quality with no respite to build up anticipation and appreciation for them.

I loved Love & Thunder. Taika keeps pushing Thor forward in his life, using both his past love in Jane and Gorr the villian who would see him dead. Both find these sentient items at the end of their lives giving them this new purpose, or second life, and their deaths are vehicles helping Thor find his own purpose, as the god who cares. Gorr, the god butcher would not exist if Thor was his god and Thor could not be that god without Jane teaching him the value of having love.
    Spoilers:
Jane kills herself to stop Gorr, to save the next generation of gods (and a few aliens), in destroying Mjolnir(again), she destroys the Necrosword, which in itself was killing Gorr (and also compelling him to go from loving grieving father to axe murderer in a week) once it was gone and Gorr was just himself again (admittedly, dying) he could listen to Thor's words and see Thor, a god, choosing death to love a mortal in her final moments. Gorr's whole identity is that all gods are indifferent and unworthy, that reality is better off without them, and he's right, but only to an extent, which is where Thor is.
Thor's just this absolute contradiction to Gorr's beliefs, to his quest. Gorr then in his final moments is just having this necrosword free re-evaluation of the genesis of his pain, what he wanted in that desert at the start of his journey: his daughter to live, but he was afraid, afraid she would be alone. To which Jane tells him to put faith in Thor. Gorr had to trust what he hated, what he vowed to destroy, with what he loved. Choosing love, Gorr dies and with Jane's death, Thor does the same chooses to love Gorr and becomes the god Gorr needed in his death.
And so Thor and the Eternity Daughter Love, go about the universe having their own adventures.
Thor's never really had the chance to be a dad in comics, there was Magni for a hot second, but that storyline was erased by Thor himself, so I am super jazzed about his maybe omnipotent daughter here.
    Side note:
Also, I think the aether or more less gave Jane the stage 4 cancer that chemotherapy was ineffective at treating before she picks up Mjolnir (so, let's not blame the hammer too much for trying to help, it did bring Thor back from the dead in his movie).
And while I'm sure not every god is as awful as Zeus is, its pretty evident from the film most of them are, which is where Gorr is right, but not entirely right. Namely why Jane's so dedicated to stopping him, as Thor's her evidence that they're not all whicked as Gorr's gods were.
Though those two celestials in Omnipotence City? They are bad blokes. Into orgies and such.

    • @thedarkemissary
      @thedarkemissary 2 ปีที่แล้ว

And so the entire genesis of the conflict is in an inanimate sword that you learn nothing about where it came from or why it exists? Whereas the antithesis is a magic hammer that never came back to life for Thor, but did come back to life to kill his former girlfriend? But, nevermind all that, more screaming goats. I got nothing against the deep character messaging, but how we got there is a complete mess.
      Side note:
How dare you besmirch the the good name of Bao, God of Dumplings. He throws the best orgies. Gorr should have prayed to him.

Thor: Ragnarok was (and still is) my favorite MCU movie, so I went into this with high expectations and I still really liked it! There were parts that weren’t perfect, for me the set up was rushed and I would have loved another half hour with Gorr and showing more of his arc and how long he had the sword for, and with Jane and her transformation into a Thor. I think that would have addressed a lot of your issues with the narrative feeling rushed and forced.
I got the impression there were good gods too, Thor calls one good (again, another scene showing this would help), and seems genuinely upset when he finds out that Zeus was a douche. I may be wrong but I also thought that the race of aliens at the beginning were being attacked because their gods had been killed, they say they disappeared, so maybe they too were abandoned, but I thought the purpose of that inclusion *was* to show the negative impact of the gods being killed (lol broken record here but more run time explaining the situation would help). I think we are supposed to leave the movie thinking that Gorr was kinda right and a lot of the Gods were douches, and that Thor made the right choice by helping him and not defeating him. I wouldn’t be surprised if moving forward his movies were more about the gods and getting the bad ones out and good ones in.
My husband wasn’t as big a fan, he isn’t super into the touching “all you need it love” stuff 🤣 But even he agreed that the ending not being a big battle was a nice change of pace. I kind of get what you’re saying about it being stuck to the MCU formula, but at the same time I feel like there were so many elements to it that were so different from everything else that in the end it does feel unique, especially to the movies that have been coming out recently that are so heavily focused on the multi-verse. I laughed a lot and cried at the end, and I will rewatch it before at least half of the other MCU movies.
