    you could use merge blocks on every single layer so when its folded up, it merges with the ship as one single grid and not multiple. that would stop clang from exploding it if you are trying to do some fast moves in your ship.

    • @MjuMeli
      @MjuMeli  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      10/10 tips right here! I also designed the armor parts so that they won't merge so as long as the panels won't merge together this should work perfectly! Edit2: Sadly you cant merge the 2 halves together since the panels would occupy the same blocks. but if you keep the panels on the different sides of the pistons separate this should work.

    I could see this working best as a hidden station powerplant. Imagine these extending out of a small hangar-like space on the side of a ground base as an alternative back up power, it'd be utterly amazing for hiding it away from the brunt of damage, due to it being generally hidden.

    • @MjuMeli
      @MjuMeli  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be awesome! A slightly downgraded version with 8 panels could fit through a single large grid block opening. Although if I build it I'd probably go for upgrading not downgrading :D Aaand slap a custom blast door on top of the opening for protection.

    This is brilliant. Can we give you challenges? For example I would love to see you come up with solutions for retractable docking bridges. So bridges that have a connector and a corridor to walk from one ship to another like in the expanse. I tried a few ways to do it, but none of them functioned really well. But you have obviously a much greater understanding of the games mechanics.

    • @MjuMeli
      @MjuMeli  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ohh, that sounds like a cool idea and an interesting challenge! I might take you up on that. It should be quite doable, but if it need to be airtight it's gonna be quite bulky. Not sure when I can work on that but I'll keep it in mind.
      I actually started a Roci build recently. (Full scale out of small blocks) It's barely started, but a docking bridge could be a cool addition to it once it's finished... in 10 years :D
      Wherever and whenever I end up building the bridge I'll be sure post a video about it.

    In the 4th version you say "for some reason it doesn't work as well"

    Pretty cool man! I also love engineering challenges. One of such challenges for me, is creating stealth torpedo. This is achieved by exploiting turret behaviour, when they won't shoot enemy if he's hidden behind unpowered grid without any functional blocks on it (basically wall of armor). That would make for hell of a scary weapon - imagine a torpedo that gives zero shits about enemy turrets :D

    • @MjuMeli
      @MjuMeli  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How did you place the solar panels? I am trying to add it to a ship but I cant place the solar panels on the hinges.

    • @MjuMeli
      @MjuMeli  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hinges have a tiny hitbox you can use to place blocks on them, although they don't have a connecting face. In addition to this you can't have a solar panel connected on the other side of the hinge since the game counts it as colliding. You'll have to detach the hinge and turn the other solar panel away or use a piston to separate the detached hinge, add the panel, then bring the hinge back together and attach it.
      I'm making a tutorial that includes this but it's a few days away still.
