"Today, I'm choosing to be happy"...I literally don't know what you're even going to say next, as I hit pause, just to write this comment...the words came out your mouth and they just made me smile...amazing!
All that fill is going to take a while to settle before you can see how much total you will need. It may end up much more than you think right now once all that dirt and rocks more into their final position - lots of empty pockets, both large and small, that will slowly disappear and be filled in as the ground settles and sinks.
This settling and filling process is going to take some time, but the result will be worth it! You can see how much work has been done, and it’s really impressive. The guys are doing an amazing job-their work ethic and skills are truly inspiring. It’s clear they’re putting their hearts into every step. Your family is just wonderful, and it shows in how the kids approach their work. I can’t wait for more updates and vlogs-especially the cozy family moments like that soup! Wishing you all happiness and peace! 😊
Jonah and Josiah are doing an excellent job rebuilding the shore near the pole barn. It's stronger than it was before the storm. If they worked for me they would receive a bonus and a catered meal at the end of the project.
I love how you are interacting with your editor Nice touch it's showing us how interactive TH-cam can be with each other and our audience Great video Much love xoxox Thoes little piggies love seeing the babies the lambs are adorable and that was a hard but great story people need to hear ❤
You did an incredible presentation for "Seed to Harvest" today thank you for sharing your experience with the world. I was so excited when I heard you were going to be one of the special speakers 😀😊❤❤❤❤❤ Congratulations on such a great job 👏😊❤❤
Compact the fill in short lifts as you go by tracking it in. Whill make a world of difference with settling. Also, consider planting ground junipers to help with erosion
Hoping everyone embraces your CHOICE (and we all have a choice) to not dwell on the problems, stresses etc of daily life but to recognize they exist and CHOOSE instead to dwell on those things that are good, happy, upbeat and uplifting. The other stuff doesn't go away but how we deal with it does when we change our mindset. Thank you.
Justin, about your mountain top water, flow, instead of sending it back to the creek set up another barrel in your next paddock, and then back to the creek. That way you’ll have your water already in the next paddock ready to go.
❤ Your Wall Looks Like A Piece Of Art ! Beautiful ! Plant something along there that will provide deep roots throw rose hips or something along the wall in spots will hold your soil in place . Looking good ! Nice Job !
Letting go can be hard for parents. But how else are you going to know they learned what they needed to learn? Most major thing is never criticize their work no matter what. Things can always be corrected with a learning curve! I love the way you put them in charge of projects, the more you do that the more you free up your own days! You have amazing children!
Great idea! In Florida we have plants like sea oats, sea grapes and different kids of ground cover to stop erosion on the beaches. It would be good to wait until their dirt settles.
Have you ever tried to use the wire mesh baskets and you can fill them up with stones and then tie them all together I’m talking about the retaining wall you’re building if you have access to a bunch of stones if you get the wiremesh baskets and fill them up You should look into it would be very sturdy
the machines will really help out with this rebuild - looks good, stay flexible - quite a few days of work ahead, pretty soon you will be back to clearing - give yourself some buffer pasture for late summer droughts and to reduce pressure. one day at a time
Every day since you purchased the 2 large pieces of equipment they have been invaluable to your homestead..and the boys are really good at putting them to good use! I’m sure that’s an investment that you’ve never regretted! Jonah and Josie will be able to make a good living with that knowledge and skill if they choose to do so! Blessings guys❤🙏🏻
Just an fyi, it's not a Ret. Wall if it's not above ur (insert year) water surface elevation. I seriously would consider getting at minimum a "drainage study" done so u know how much water is going through the creek at the 10yr 25yr 100yr and 500yr. Then asses ur wall cost for each event, 10yr design would be cheapest and fit with ur description of small rain events. DON'T cheap out, I've seen many projects fail because of it. What ur doing now is fine for it's current water level and down stream force but you'll encounter the same erosion problems if water gets over the level of the rocks.
I agree. These once in a 100 years events are becoming a lot more common nowadays even if there's little chance that a Helène can hit the same way again. Doesn't hurt to prepare for the worst.
Those boys are something special!! It shows how well they are raised!! All your kids have the best work ethic!! Love your family!! Can’t wait for the potato soup vlog!! Happy Day and inner peace!! ❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
It started very young, this is a family farm and they work together to take care of the farm. This is they way it used to be farm kids' work on the farm. The family benefits.
❤Take instant cement by bag full in lg. Pail, add abit more water then it calls for, but not too much ... Yiu want to pour it in &over the retainer wall, so that it runs down into &around tomake you a very SOLID WALL NOW.... THIS REALLY WORKS ❤
Hi Justin, I see how you cleared the forest to make pasture. You might want to consider planting along the contour of the hill. This will slow down the flow of water when it rains, allowing more water to infiltrate onto your pastures, reducing risk of flooding downhill or downstream. Some make swales, but I haven't tried that yet.
Hey Justin, I know your crew loves rice. If the beautiful one is trying to lower the carbs for every 1.5 cups of dry uncooked rice add 2 pounds of shredded cabbage and a couple of onions. a head of garlic, and fresh ginger. Try to avoid eating straight plain rice.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. You always put a smile on my face. Love seeing you all smile especially Josiah. Although you all have been through hell you all see the positive. Justin, your laugh is contagious. Thank you for reminding me we have so much to be grateful for no matter what is going on in the world❤
You can easily drive over schedule for the PVC pipe without it breaking. It’s my humble opinion that you’re gonna do twice as much work to put the pipes in after you fill the ground. 9:29
Your children are just awesome!!! The older boys will have no problem finding extra work in the construction field if they ever choose to. Love yall parenting
Thank you, watching your video,'s keeps me sane. I have egg chickens and a large garden. I am going to grow my first meat birds in the spring. That's from watching your utube videos. I live in MN so thanks again!
Justin---What is you ROI on the hay you just threw on your ground? Feed for animals vs. compost? Do you include this analysis in your farm productivity analysis? How does throwing hay contribute to your overall homestead budget/plan?
9:49 I know the budget is low however maybe now would be a good time to invest in a dump truck you have a mountain there's a lot of dirt and rocks on that mountain and it would be a good way to terraform your Mountain for more nook and cranny pastures your boys wanted to do an Excavating business they're going to need a dump truck
Lily agreeing to massage Blaze to help Blaze get better is a good thing! Lol. Laughter is great. I made soup today... Mine is split peas (1 quart of the 3 gallons I was gifted), smoked turkey wings (2), sweet onion, several cloves of garlic, 1/2 c my homemade hot sauce, some nutmeg, carrots ( gifted peeled cut up and frozen for soups) about 2 cups plus 3 quarts of water... Crockpot 2 hours on high. Then to low for 4 hours... Mine is for supper today. Feel free to adjust whatever you like if you make it. 1 hour before serving I will carefully remove the turkey wings to a plate to cook for 15 minutes. Then remove and cut up if needed any meat & add meat back to crockpot for about 30 minutes before serving.
I'm a certified nutrition coach. Have y'all ever tracked your saturated fat intake? Animal products tend to be high in sat fat, which is linked to heart disease. Heart disease is the number one cause of preventable death in the US, especially for women. The current recommendation is to keep your saturated fat intake to an absolute max of 10% of overall calories. 2,000 calories a day translates to 200 calories of sat fat or 22g of saturated fat maximum. Less than your max is better. 1 Tbs of butter is 7g of saturated fat for perspective. A lamb rib is around 16g of sat fat for 4oz.
I’m not a parent but I couldn’t be more proud of you children as if they were my own. You apparently are doing something right, maybe that is another TH-cam channel or podcast y’all can create with your personal information on how to get children to work with you willingly. Y’all are extremely blessed even with the trials that have come your way. May God in Jesus name continue to show His favor upon you and your family wit peace and safety.
Lily girl, couldn't drop this on your channel so I thought I'd mention it here brush you hair and wash your face before videos!!! You're correct, the patent leather on the harness is not intended to be oiled, just wiped off like you are doing. it has a special finish to make it shiny
I have been watching your kids grow. But I disagree with letting the boys make the decision of what to do. In your creating a farm but mostly your are teaching a work ethic. Teaching to follow instruction. Is the big job most importantly is teaching to follow directions. I have worked a life time with people who could not follow. Direction. The boss may not always be dad. Love following your journey.
If you need to build a retaining wall best that you create seep holes for drainage at the bottom it is really cost effective at this point get a professonal civil engineer before you think you can repair this infrastructure.. you can at this point count this being the 1000 yr hurricane year going forward.. if you want your kids to be considered...
But your children are not full grown engineers either! I am glad they are learning responsibility, however, who knows more about the laws of physics, you, or them. I think *I* would do the rock where i wanted it, and then let them fill it. Otherwise you come across as a micromanager. Just my two cents.
"Today, I'm choosing to be happy"...I literally don't know what you're even going to say next, as I hit pause, just to write this comment...the words came out your mouth and they just made me smile...amazing!

And moisten each lift

I could watch a weeks worth of vlogs on the retaining wall rebuild. I loved the days of chainsawing acres and acres
You made me smile. Blessings on you and your busy 🐝 bee family.😊💕

It really is❣️
You need a special bench there. Beautiful view.
Your kids work so hard.
‘Slave farm’
Make sure you plan some riparian species to hold your new bank in place! Something like willow or chokecherry, whatever works in your area.
Great idea! In Florida we have plants like sea oats, sea grapes and different kids of ground cover to stop erosion on the beaches. It would be good to wait until their dirt settles.
Elderberry would be a great addition as well.

you don't want to drive heavy machinery on shallow buried pvc pipe. trench later. i agree with boys!🙂
Thats what I was thinking
For sure
the machines will really help out with this rebuild - looks good, stay flexible - quite a few days of work ahead, pretty soon you will be back to clearing - give yourself some buffer pasture for late summer droughts and to reduce pressure. one day at a time
let go! some of us needed that reminder more than others! just let them be!!!
Well, I was skeptical, but I live the way you have been rebuilding that area at the pole barn!

Nice work 👏 ❤ enjoying each day 😀 😂🎉 the young men are doing a great job keep up the good work. 👍 hard work pays off!😊
Trust those kids! You've taught them well, they're naturally brilliant and common sense thinkers and more than capable of getting the job done!!

"it only lasts a minute" 😆
I do the same thing
I'm so glad y'all back. I missed these great vlogs.

Justin---What is you ROI on the hay you just threw on your ground? Feed for animals vs. compost? Do you include this analysis in your farm productivity analysis? How does throwing hay contribute to your overall homestead budget/plan?
do your dirt work first then you do your pipe work so the ground can setlle some
I didn’t get to watch your video on the Summit. 😢 I got to watch several videos but not all the way through any of them, just bits and pieces!
Sheet pile - army corps of engineers have a lot good info out there about actual retaining walls
Happy day
Where is the farm is it Fletcher? We were there this Saturday and Sunday.what lake is being drained?Lure?
Mark it off so he has a pattern to follow. Paint lines!
Does the Army Core of Engineers help with this situation?
Our army core of engineers helped a friend of mine’s family home in the Carson Valley when the Carson River flooded and tore off part of her home!! ❤
Be alot easier to attach now then to try and find pipe later!?
👍
Please please ask your carpenter s to construct a boot or shoe task!!!! You have so much room to be organized.
Justin you will be able to retire soon, your kids are running the show. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍❤️👍
Happy and laughter best way to deal with issues. I still can’t believe how the creek come so near the barn 🧐🧐
@1:03 ✝️🙌 one with nature and your God

Justin, how is the lupus going?
Retaining wall
Great video, lots of educating projects, and even good educating comments!😊

Price of lumber these days, it makes me happy to see you repurpose that wood :)
Home Boy 😂... oh dear
Just when I thought I couldn’t love your family more than I already do, you did the sign of the cross while looking over your land ❤🥹❤ HAPPY DAY!
I saw that as well, very touching.❤

get rid of the trees and stumps across the creek from the retaining wall. it will let the creek move in that direction instead of into your wall.

High carb
Happy day lovely people! ❤
Good job boys.
Justin I SEE FREEDOM AND PEACE
I don’t think Josiah is gonna be right on this one. I think you needed to put the pipe in first and then Beville and fill it in.
[Stephen’s wife, Laura] Love Lilly’s skirt!! How beautiful!!!❤
I loveeeee Lilys skirt❤❤❤
There are six grams of protein for everyone egg
It's called a Retaining Wall, not a retainer wall. Just a small detail.
Watching you put all that scrap wood in the dumpster. Can you not burn that for your home heating?

Does anybody know why sheep get their troath cut verses being shot?
Justin told us in one video but I don’t recall what it was.
Your forced laugh made me really chuckle.
