I’ve had problems with my tanks leaking as well in the past. It’s all about vibration. I found putting 1/4-3/8” thick piece of rubber under the tanks makes all the difference in the world. Belting or get a piece cut to size does wonders.
I had the same problem with some of my tanks, instead of trying to weld the outside corner, I used 1x1x3/16 angle iron around the edges that where contacting anything. Did the original welds then pressure test, then weld the angle and pressure test again, I’m going on 5 years since I did that with no issues
Wishing everyone at Larson Farms a healthy and blessed 2025. Chet, thank you for the great job you do on the videos. I always enjoy them and appreciate the effort you make.
Yooooo Farmers! Did ya ever notice that vehicle-mounted tanks have soft mounts to secure them in place? They have this because fluid forces are rhythmic in nature and the energy of that intertia is mighty powerful. It either needs a springy mount or like space shuttle overbuild. -TMYK
I have been watching you guys since the beginning. Every video i think to myself, maybe they will unveil their new service truck in this one... maybe next one. Happy new year!
Chet, steel MOVES while you're welding it. No surprise to me you needed to redo the plumbing when you set the tank back in place. If you need to pull that tank again, it might be a good idea to put on some better lift points.
**PLEASE PLEASE** Make sure you wash out the tank next time. Also have plenty of ventilation. I had an Uncle that was a professional welder. Built many things in construction welding for years. He opened a small welding shop and a guy came in to weld a diesel tank, had a hole in it. He located it and sat down on the tank welded between his legs and he missed taking off the cap and the fumes exploded and he spent years dealing with his injuries.
Chet, Noticing Fuel Oil piping as You removed, The Tread Sealant is Incorrect. Teflon Tape is Petroleum Based and will detreat over time generating Leaks of Fuel Oil / Gasoline. The proper pipe thread Sealant is PERMATEX , requiring 12 Hours of set up time prior to having product installed. Hope this Helps You.
So a diesel tank that looks like it's hard mountain to the back of a truck is starting to crack after 15 years. I don't think it's because the welds are small or because it's not up to standards but because its worn out and suffering metal fatigue would not be surprised if in a couple of years it starts cracking again.
Hey Chet. Another good video. Dougo was hilarious as usual. My wife and I celebrating 41yrs married after going and having dinner, we’re watching this video 😂. Just a little humor😅. You guys have a Happy New Year. 🎄👍❤️
*- To prevent wrecking the alternator housing bearing by tightening the belt too much, use WD40.* *- The fish oil of WD40 will not eat the rubber of the belt. It makes the V-grove sticky.* *- Always worked for me with just one application.*

Nice to see a big time farmer who runs equipment into high hour life. That is where your ROI comes into play.

If it just sat on timber, it would help cut down on vehicle vibration cracking the tank.😀
Happy New Year @LarsonFarms!!
Awesome video. thank you
Why not weld angle around the outside corners to help stiffen, and also put rubber underneath it so the vibrations don’t kill it

Problem with tanks on trucks or trailers is the vibration and the sloshing of the fuel. Should have baffles or tie bars connecting the ends together

It was probably a gas tank.
@@Budd56 I heard diesel tanks can explode also. I know a guy who had nine lives that blew on up.
Lol golf balls on the bench 😂😂😂 happy new year guys
Good luck to you on a new year an your up coming little one
What a coincidence Dougo, I'm doing the same cleaning project in my shop.
Although it is not always possible but a tank made with more break/bent corners instead of welded. All comes down to fit up
Keep cleaning there Dougo!
Eventually it will look better!😊
The few fuel tanks I've repaired or built, I put some half inch angle iron along the bottom side
Have a very happy, blessed and productive new Year1🎉🎉🇺🇸

I didn’t hear him ask for your opinion.

Is the long metal pipe supported in anyway? If not that weight while driving may cause the sheet metal sides of the tank to flex and stress the welds.
Happy new year!!!
great video
Thanks
As always another great video, Happy New Year.
Happy New Year
Chet on that fuel tank put some rubber on the corners to cushion it
