The first thing to understand is that scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine with 10 degrees or more with rotation. If there is no rotation, it might not be scoliosis.
Scoliosis is divided into these categories:
    - Mild
    - Moderate
    - Severe
    - Very-Severe
Scoliosis can happen to children and adults. Dr. Tony Nalda focuses on Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) in this video. AIS is called this way because of its unknown cause, and there are multiple theories on how it happens, but none is 100% certain for all patients.
The most common thing to notice is posture, balance, and coordination changes as the spine shifts and the curve happens. It is expected to see uneven shoulders, arms, hips, and legs in AIS patients. But the most classic signs of AIS are rib protrusion, tilting appearance, asymmetrical shoulder blades, and rarely, pain.
Pain is the least common symptom in adolescents and children with scoliosis. That is why it is difficult to do an early diagnosis in some cases. Contrary to adults, pain is more frequent, stronger because of the pressure of gravity on the spine over time compresses the nerves that come out of the spine.
Patients usually seek out scoliosis surgery because of fear that their scoliosis curve might pressure or puncture their lungs and heart. But this type of manifestation starts to happen after 80 degrees of curvature and more likely after 100 degrees. When this happens, it is called a functional impairment, and the patient won't even notice. Only if the patient has difficulty breathing or any other symptoms might they notice something is wrong.
The only way to confirm if this is happening is to have a cardiovascular function profile done. Some people might develop it earlier or later in their process, but it is often associated with each patient's curve progress.
If you suspect you have scoliosis, Dr. Nalda recommends the first thing to do is get tested, get an X-Ray, and have your scoliosis angle measured. Once the scoliosis diagnosis is confirmed, be proactive regarding your scoliosis. Look for a professional that specializes in your type of scoliosis to seek treatment and keep your curve as small as possible.

I was born w/mild spastic cerebral palsy and was diagnosed w/scoliosis around the age of 12-13 yrs old. I didn't start having lower back pain until I was in my mid 20's. I'm 40 now and it's like the back pain is so frequent now that I couldn't work a regular job if I wanted to because I can't sit in a chair for a certain amount of time before my lower back just locks up on me.

I had a back injury about a year ago i think, I didn’t really have problems before my accident, (my little cousins made a mattress fort and insisted I go inside lol but they forgot I was inside it and were sitting on top of it. The exact mattress they were sitting on was the one I was sitting with my back against, but then it tipped and all the mattresses came crashing down on me, but I like, folded forward and felt a click it my spine. Next I couldn’t breathe for about 10 seconds. They heard me crying so uncovered me from the pile of mattresses, and I couldn’t move at all without really hurting, I couldn’t stand, walk, sit, nothing. I got better a few days later but I still get back pain to this day. I also felt my spine and realized it felt kinda curved. I also recently noticed my shirt hangs pretty unevenly which hadn’t happened before the accident) so those are my problems. Anyone’s thoughts?..

I think I might have scoliosis. I was looking in a mirror and I noticed my ribcage was all wonky. I have noticed it before, but it got me thinking about it. I decided to take a few pictures of my back and invert them and even though I was standing straight and the camera was level, my back still looked kinda curvy and funky. I couldn't tell before I inverted it that my spine looked like that. Also, I have REALLY bad posture. I have always had a bad back, for example, I can't jump on a trampoline for over a hour or my back will start to hurt really really bad. It gets to the point where I couldn't even bend forward to tie my own shoes, and the pain usually lasts almost a month. I had always just brushed it off and thought it was from my horrendous posture, but now I think that might not be the case. Also I have a really flexible back (only bending backwards though, I can hardly touch my toes when I bend forward). Can I have scoliosis if my back is flexible?

    • @ScoliosisReductionCenter
      @ScoliosisReductionCenter  หลายเดือนก่อน

Scoliosis can definitely contribute to fatigue for a couple of reasons:
Muscle strain: The abnormal curvature of the spine can strain the muscles that try to hold you upright. This constant effort can leave you feeling tired.
Posture and gait: Scoliosis can affect your posture and the way you walk. This can make everyday activities more tiring. Discover how we can assist you by visiting our website at www.scoliosisreductioncenter.com/treatment-approach.

Just found this video. My entire life my right side back is much bigger than the left. Often people called me hoss or blacksmith. I'm in constant pain and my neck is always tensed up. My muscles on that side are constantly tense. Right arm has numbness and thoracic outlet syndrome.
So clearly I have scoliosis based on this video. My question is why I've never been diagnosed. I go to the doctor every month for arthritis, migraines, fibromyalgia, ankelosing spondelitis, degenerative disc, chest pain, etc. The list is very long and my prescription list even worse...
Is this just something doctors easily miss? I even have heart and temperature problems now... I'll be sure to speak with my doctor about this on my next appointment. I'm late 30s and been going to doctors for various pains the last 20+ years... Even had migraines as a child. I was the one who discovered my celiac disease and chronic Epstein barr. I'm not trying to insult my doctors but are they just incompetent or what? One even sent me to a psychiatrist for my migraines... Surely 1 of the 30+ doctors should've seen this.
Thank you so much for the video. I pray this will get treated and help with my pain. You have my prayers as well.
