Song Lesson by Varalakshmi Anandkumar-Endaro Mahanubhavulu- Part.1

One of the favourites among Saint Thyagaraja s magnificent Pancharatna Kritis, this piece in Raga Sri has been the focus of innumerable teaching as well as performance videos. This video from Journey into Carnatic Music handles the Pallavi and Anupallavi of the song.
The lyrics are not being posted since books and websites with song notation and lyrics are available in abundance. Moreover, there is al.ost perfect unity in the way it is sung with very minute changes from one patanthara to the other.

My pleasure. Well if I remember right, the Mahabhatat song was more in the Maddhyamavathi mould , which is very similar but it doesn't have a gandharam at all. Just sa ri ma pa ni sa and same way back.

Thank you for your appreciation. Regarding how to practice, well, I am not an authority on voice culture. I can only say that you need to practice every day. You need to do a lot of akaara saadhakam. Do humming and practice smooth phrasing in your comfort zone. Please never push your voice to scale what you can't. It has to come slowly with practice. Whatever I know is the training from voice expert Sri Anant Vaidyanathan who has amazing insight into each one's voice. Maybe I will do a video on the main points I have understood from him if possible.
