sketchtherapy1218 - i'm sorry but I have to disagree with you a little bit because I think you're misinterpreting what the insurance is in the game for your ships.
As CIG has mentioned about the insurance and game is only intended to replace your ship in the event it gets destroyed. The insurance will only cover the hull of the ship meaning the standard version of it. At some point during the development people add additional Insurance as an add on to your existing insurance for upgrades that you put on your ship. They also brought up stern warning to any player caught using the insurance to exploit it, like for instance, selling your ship to a friend in game and then reporting it as stolen in order to get the ship back again. That is an exploit and not a feature and if that happens that player can get permanently banned from the game and lose their account as well as all money spent on the game.
Furthermore, why you stating this busybody mentality almost incriminate you as being one of those people who would exploit the game and never report an exploit. Because if you read the term of service agreement you will find that exploding is not allowed in the game and it's caught doing it you can be banned from the game permanently. Exploding is something that destroys every single game out there because certain players feel it's either funny, or a way of cheating the game and others just suit their own benefits and that is something I DO NOT condone in any player getting caught doing it should be permanently banned from the game.
In fact, I encourage players to report anyone that you feel is exploding and let the developer CIG sort it out since that is their job and not the player.
In addition, any player who does know of another player exploding should never ever report that on the forms because that is not what the forms are intended to be.

100% on this needing to be (remain) a standard feature. Also totally fine with a "restocking" fee over and above the price of the original items for this convenience. For account bound items, the original price may be free, but you still get dinged with restock fee.

Part of the fun is the fear of losing it. tbf to CIG they are addressing this by resetting the gear when an failure happens. I had my gear given back many times.
Also, I find if you "own" a specific gear set. You tend to find more pieces of it in the verse.
So, if you do die and the gear is gone, you will find it back if you vary your gameplay.
CIG as shown it can stop other players from using bought gear from other players in the past. To halt redistributing then. Also seen lots of looted bought gear disappear or turn to standard in my inventory.
If you get looted and the finder wears your gear, fine. If he/she just stores, dumps or dies, then the option should come back to the original owner by being added to the loot table. In boxes or on npc's.

Restock equipment should be a 5th option on the mobiglas Landing menu. It should allow restocking from own warehouse(free) or station(paid) if items are available for sale at the given location. It should work for all compartments, not only weapon racks. Ship stock items should be managed from the ship engineering terminal.

    • @barneymattox

I think restocking needs to just happen. Introducing location restrictions is going to create unnecessary chaos. If you can reclaim an entirely new polaris in the middle of pyro, then they definitely can source items from other locations.
I'm also totally fine with loading the ship manually the first time or when changing out items. So not certain there's a compelling reason or use case for a UI here. Make 2 million in game, put 2 million in cargo to flip for profit, game crashes or breaks, and you now have no cargo and no money after 20 hours of grinding. If the game loops were more polished, I think you'd have less gold buyers. I don't think it makes sense for CIG to punish those players for buying AUEC. I've spawned in with 20k, spent 90% of it on guns, ammo, armor, and supplies. Hopped in to do my first mission of the patch and quantum travel shot me into a planet and I lost everything before I could even do the mission. The weapon thing is a feature and I think that's completely fine. You pay for the weapons and they're not cheap (I remember another youtuber testing it and having to pay 200k for a full rack of guns to be replaced). It's just a massive time saver if you wanna equip your polaris with weapons, save it and not having to do it each time you run into a glitch or it gets destroyed or lost. Gold sellers are always annoying but kinda unavoidable. The good thing I see is that you still have an economy within star citizen, so hauling from one base to another will not be affected by it, neither will commodity prices for items that are needed for base building or ship building later (since those are still limited and have to be actually farmed). As far as exploits go, they need to be fixed. It's an alpha so we need to talk about which exploits are possible and not keep them secret in order for CIG to be able to fix them before 1.0.

I do agree that deliberate and repetative explotation should be punished in some form, especially if its causing a huge impact on the game (RMC exploit). Exploits do need to be found and reported so that these holes can be patched in some in one way ot another. A way of reporting an exploit without making the details public could help the game, maybe something like making the subject of the exploit public and any contributions can submit steps, but none of the steps are public and neither is the name of the person who reported.
You cant just blanket ban everyone who exploits as that could technically include everyone who has ever claimed a ship so they dont pay for repair/reload costs and I dont think the game is stable enough at the moment to enable the option to only have the missiles/torps/bombs available on the first retrieve of a ship.

What is the point of living in this world if you have to buy every thing all over again even after bugs , glitches , and server fails. I lose so much on the C2 because it glitches all the time when i'm running cargo. Being able to save my bought gear "with real money or in game credits" on ships is what this game needs right now. I say make it 50k to insure everything on your ship. Make it by what is saved and taken off live in game. meaning the moment i store it , its saved and insured. This would best for ASOP when you retrieve your ship it should have this as an option. Ships should be first homes next to homesteads when they are released. The heart ache and grief of losing cargo you spent 4 hours moving because ship disappears is the worst. it would be nice to have all of it saved the moment i have to claim it again. I'm already paying for it and save me the trip of having to run around for an hour just to get back to where i was. I dont think a timer on it would be good either, timers don't really help they just hurt the progress people are trying to make. An interesting situation occurred to me in combat. While doing some bounty contracts, one of the wings on my Gladius got blown off, taking the missiles with it. I then fired the remaining missiles to complete the contract. After completing a few more bounties I eventually got blown up. When I claimed my ship the unfired missiles showed back up but not the fired ones, after a restock fee all the missile slots were full. I think that's how this should all go down, preventing insurance fraud while allowing people to play the game with the gear they loot. I have come across a few invincible NPCs in ship to ship as well as FPS combat, it is rare but frustrating to lose gear when there's nothing you can do to complete a contract. I also think it would be incredibly funny for people to end up in Klesher due to insurance fraud.

They could also add an armory loadout, which lists everything you have stored and can show a flag of an item if it's rare and won't be replenished with a restock. They could also add a simple quality tier system for items and only certain places can do certain tiers.
I also liked the idea of different systems having differing cost of insurance.

So far, the biggest gripe I've seen is about rail rifles being duped/repurchased instead of being found in yet another endless bunker run. What was the metric I heard? 1 in 15 or so bunker runs? I don't remember whether those 15 counted the times you fell through the world inside the bunker or were killed by an immortal NPC or desynched and respawned 150 meters above the complex, or just CTDed and lost everything you'd stored in your ships over the previous bunker runs without having to dip back to your hanger and hope you made it all the way in and were able to store your loot between each and every mission. I'm not even concerned with the murder hoboes ganking you on your way out, as that's somewhat legit gameplay at least.
IF we were only concerned about losing that rare item because of our own play, you'd be correct. But we're not playing THAT game yet. We're playing the one where you have to go through tedious and time consuming toil, where your most dangerous enemy is the game itself. Until they fix that, I'm good with duping rare items.

Once we get player crafting and stores, I'll have to deal with gold farmers, loot farmers, and space whales whose most deadly in game weapon is a credit card. It's the nature of MMOs. Everything is eventually reduced to the lowest common denominator.

The solution is to have reclaim costs with “fps and other items” equal the repair cost of the ship + the buy or sell cost depending on item and the commodity value. ie get box of mineable gems back you’ll pay the sell cost making it not profitable to duplicate. Have railg in rack, get it back, but pay 20k+ or what is purchasable costs is. (I might add I don’t think it should be as hard as it is to get a railg or launcher as is in game currently)

What is the point of wiping, if the game just keeps adding new loops, or old ones, because CIG can't, or won't bother thinking forward before releasing anything?
As a little Whale myself, I'll say it only punishes those players who enjoy earning stuff in game, always crippling them back to their starter pack. In my case, I can jump in a Prospector, Vanguard, Connie or a C2 stright after a wipe, but what about that guy with an Aurora MR?
Is that a new way to encourage everyone to be as stupid as I have been?
Still, I despise losing my subscription outfit because my stupid Starlancer elevator ate me alive, and having to wait for the next character reset for a new set. Duping at this point should be encouraged at this particular instance and public demonstrations don't harm anyone currently due to alpha. As for the insurance stuff, it's not entirely duping as mentioned due to cost. If CIG don't want this type of behaviour to occur then build systems that don't allow it. It's their current design framework of insurance that allows for it. It previously allowed for it so if it happens again that's on CIG not on the players for using it.

I would like to see CIG make a statement on this. Until they do, the way it is currently working seems more like a feature. If it were an actual dupe or a cheat, then I wouldn't be interested in doing it. When it comes down to it, they want money sinks and this is a great way to do it. Having insurance for FPS armor and weapons causes me to get out there and do more missions so that I have the money to buy the armor and weapons through repairing. It's a great way to ensure players get engaged and out there doing missions. If i have to claim the vehicle, I'm provided with a stock vehicle and I have to upgrade all my components again and I have to restock my FPS weapons and armor. If my ship weapons or components get damaged, I click repair and they are repaired. I use my missiles, I click repair and they are replaced. FPS weapons and armor should be the same. If everything were replaced when I claim my ship for insurance, that might be a different story. Of course no one wants a wipe, but the honest truth is that anything before 1.0, I'm okay with wiping if it means getting the game right.

  • @thalastian_thundercleese

I think that one of the keys to discouraging exploits is to introduce mechanisms that make said exploit redundant. For example, using ship repair to re-purchase FPS items stored in a ship's weapon racks loses at least some of its value as an exploit if you can easily re-claim account-bound FPS weapons and armour you have lost. Given the sheer number of bugs that can make it impossible to retrieve FPS gear from your corpse after respawning, I personally find that 'gear fear' really restricts my play. That's just me personally - I don't have a lot of time to play games, and I enjoy creating loadouts and equipping myself for specific mission types, so then losing items I can't easily replace at the local Cubby Blast is a pain. Having a simple way to reclaim said items is long overdue in my opinion.
