    A prime example of British engineering excellence. Blue Peter looks absolutely wonderful.
    Takes me back to when I used to drive a 11 tonne Marshall Steam Traction Engine, towing a trailer. Ok. it didn't run on rails, or have brakes to speak of, but it did have a steering wheel.
    There was nothing better than doing a road run, with the wind in your face, doing about 8mph, but the best bit was when we stopped to take on water. We would be soon surrounded by Mums, Dads and their children, all looking on in awe at this big metal beast that was driving on the road. Those days are far behind me unfortunately.
    But I love steam traction, and always will.

    Looking forward to seeing this in action, hopefully soon. Saw it at barrow hill during the great gathering run up when it was painted in 2 different liveries on either side of it. The Severn valley railway know what they are doing by allowing testing to be done over their lines. Certainly makes you want to visit to catch a glimpse

    Remember as a 13 year old seeing her go through Chesterfield in the mid 1960’s while still working for British Rail in rather a grubby state…lovely to see she’s been restored to her former glory

    Looks amazing. As a young lad, I liked Blue Peter as it reminded me of Flying Scotsman as it was in apple green, but at the same time I wondered why it wasn't blue due to its name. I guessed Blue Peter would be turned out in BR blue when it was announced that it would share the spare water tender with Sir Nigel Gresley. I imagine the colour will go down well with the Blue Peter Programme. Would be good to briefly put the Blue Peter programme logo on the tender, I would have loved that as a kid.

      @alangilbertson8239 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree. I love the blue on Gresley and on Tornado when it carried it about 10 years ago, but this livery just doesn't do it for me. Might as well have painted it orange. A2s were the only LNER Pacific class never to have been painted in BR Express Blue. Blue Peter spent its first 18 months in apple green (with 'British Railways' on the tender), then from September 1949 it carried BR Green until withdrawal.

    I heard Blue Peter came on a lorry, why didn’t she just come to Kidderminster by mainline track?

    • @georgecivil8354
      @georgecivil8354 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Believe its because she currently isn't Mainline certified and hasn't had her running in trials yet, hence why BP is at the SVR.

    • @spankflaps1365
      @spankflaps1365 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Also SVR is a good proving ground, it has old and modern stock to test both types of braking, and a 50mph stretch (no passengers allowed above 25mph).
      Gresley did 500 miles of testing and running in at the SVR.
