Police Immunity , from my understanding (someone correct me if Im wrong), is just the same as medical immunity. As an example, if an officer wrongfully kills someone, the police department/ government will take the appropriate steps to punish the officer (suspension, firing, imprisonment) based on the abided rules. The immunity protects the officer from being taken to civil court by the potential families of the victims. Its more of an "In house" punishment rather than from the outside.
What Trump is talking about ( I believe) is that when an officer makes a mistake or uses rightful action, the immunity works the same way (with the police department) making "in house" judgment based on the laws. He or she will be protected from civil suits. I think this is how it works.
