I agree,there are news we can't avoid to watch though sad but we get informed and where necessary take precautions. In Kenya now most news is murders of college going girls who get lured to parties or meeting people then they're found dead in unclear circumstances. If we avoid news in totality and such happenings bypass us,how then do we advise our own to take care and avoid suspicious company!

Also, I have not watched the news on TV in years, I follow what I want on my iPad or laptop. I watch a lot of renovations, gardening and traveling vblogs. I beg to differ. We must remain empathetic to our fellow human beings. Simply saying I won't watch the news turns a blind eye to the suffering of others. A blind eye then fosters indifference, which can be violent in its own way. We dont have to consume the news everyday, but having a general understanding of whats going is the least we can do towards cultivating a bit more empathy in this world.
